Islamic Jihad leader Khaled Al-Batsh: “We need to focus on the release of the people (i.e., prisoners) We have no choice, but to bring a khawaja (i.e., term for someone who is not Arab) or two or three or four, and we will tie them up here in Gaza, and we will release the prisoners. That is the solution.”
PA Parliament Member for Fatah, Faisal Abu Shahla: “We need to put an end to the plethora of arrests and the Israeli contempt for human life, and this will only happen if we respond in kind. We will take hostages, and there will be settlers in our hands, there will be soldiers in our hands, and thus we will guarantee the release of our sons. Without this, we only fulfill a public duty, we ease things for the prisoners’ families, but that will not release the prisoners. It will not release them at all.”
