“Knowledgeable sources told [the independent Palestinian news agency] Wattan that [PA] President Mahmoud Abbas has issued instructions to resolve the issue of the 277 prisoners and released prisoners whose salaries (rawatib) have been stopped for this the third consecutive month.
The sources said that a delegation representing the prisoners and released prisoners whose salaries were stopped held long meetings today [Aug. 2, 2017] with the security authorities in Ramallah in order to reach a resolution of their issue.
The issue of the prisoners and released prisoners was also witness to developments on the level of the Fatah and Hamas leadership, and a meeting was held with the Palestinian leadership in order to reach a resolution that will end their suffering.
Wattan contacted a representative of the prisoners and released prisoners whose salaries were stopped Abdallah Abu Shalbak, who made do with saying that there are positive trends for resolving their issue. He noted that they have received promises from leaders in Fatah and the PA to resolve the issue…
Earlier this week Fatah Movement Central Committee Secretary Jibril Rajoub met with the released prisoners at the [protest] tent and promised them to resolve the issue. Fatah Revolutionary Council Secretary Majed Al-Fatiani also met with the released prisoners and their families at the protest tent and promised them to invest efforts into ending their suffering.”

Jibril Rajoub also holds the following positions: Head of the PLO Supreme Council for Sport and Youth Affairs, Chairman of the Palestinian Football Association, and Chairman of the Palestinian Scout Association (PSA).
