Website of national Martyrs’ families association defines a Martyr as “anyone who dies as a fighter for Palestine during resistance or while carrying out his national duty and role in the struggle”

Text posted on the website of The National Association of the Families of the Martyrs of Palestine, accessed May 2, 2016. This body is not an official PA organization, rather it represents the families of "Martyrs" to the PA institutions:

“A Martyr: Anyone who dies as a fighter for Palestine during resistance or while carrying out his national duty and role in the struggle.
Martyrs’ families: first degree relatives of the Martyr (father, mother, brother, sister, son, daughter, husband, wife), and if such do not exist – one of the Martyr’s legal heirs.
Every member of the Martyr’s family (father, mother, brother, sister, son, daughter, husband, wife) is entitled to be a member of the [National] Association [of the Families of the Martyrs of Palestine], and if there are no first degree relatives, membership will be granted to one of the Martyr’s legal heirs.
Conditions for the cessation of membership:
- Death
- Resignation
- Spoken or written violation of the regulations and its goals”
