Palestinian organizations participate in “sit-in strike” to oppose Israeli law which deducts the amount of money the PA pays in salaries to terrorists and their families from the tax money Israel collects for the PA

Headline: “Sit-in strike opposite the UN headquarters in Ramallah as a sign of opposition to the theft of the allowances of the Martyrs and prisoners”

“Representatives of human rights organizations and additional organizations that deal with the prisoners’ affairs participated in a sit-in strike yesterday, Tuesday [July 24, 2018], which was called for by the national campaign to reject the law robbing the prisoners and Martyrs’ (Shahids’) money (refers to Israeli law deducting terrorist salaries from taxes collected for the PA; see note below –Ed.). The sit-in strike, which took place opposite the office of the [UN] High Commissioner for Human Rights in Ramallah, comes to express opposition to the theft of the allowances (mukhassasat) of the Martyrs and prisoners from the Palestinian tax money…
Director of [PLO] Commission of Prisoners and Released Prisoners’ Affairs Issa Karake demanded that the UN and its Secretary-General António Guterres bear their responsibility towards that which is happening to the Palestinian people, and oblige the occupation to implement the international conventions and agreements on the prisoners in its prisons.
He also emphasized the need for the UN to make decisions and take steps that will obligate the occupation state to respect the prisoners’ rights, and noted that the violations that it is committing are not limited to just the prisoners, but rather also include their families through the legislation of racist laws against them…
In addition he called for an extensive diplomatic, popular, and public campaign to support and aid the prisoners, and noted that the situation is liable to explode at any moment if Israel implements the deduction law.”

Law to deduct terrorist salaries from PA tax money - Israeli law stating that the PA payments to terrorists and the families of dead terrorists is a financial incentive to terror. The law instructs the state to deduct and freeze the amount of money the PA pays in salaries to imprisoned terrorists and families of "Martyrs" from the tax money Israel collects for the PA. Should the PA stop these payments for a full year, the Israeli government would have the option of giving all or part of the frozen money to the PA. The law was enacted on July 2, 2018.
During the parliamentary vote, the law's sponsor Avi Dichter said: “The Foreign Affairs and Defense Committee received much help in its deliberations... from Palestinian Media Watch who provided us with authentic data that enabled productive and professional deliberations, nuances that are very difficult to achieve without precise data.” [Israeli Parliament website, July 2, 2018]
