Abbas’ spokesman warns against “Israeli provocations” at the Al-Aqsa Mosque that will lead to “disastrous consequences”

“[PA] Presidential Spokesman Nabil Abu Rudeina condemned the statements of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu who promised to continue to settle the West Bank (see note below –Ed.) and allowed Israeli parliament members to invade the Al-Aqsa Mosque yesterday morning [Aug. 29, 2017].
Abu Rudeina… warned against the Israeli provocations at the Al-Aqsa Mosque, and said that ‘They will lead to disastrous consequences, and the Israeli government will remain solely responsible for this.’ He called to immediately stop all of the steps that are inflaming the religious sentiments at the holy sites.”
On Aug. 28, 2017, at an event organized by the Samaria Regional Council to celebrate 50 years of Israeli presence in the region since the 1967 Six Day War, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said: “This is our forefathers’ portion, this is our land. We have returned here to remain forever; there will be no more uprooting of towns in the land of Israel. We uprooted settlements and what did we get? We got missiles. There will be no more. Samaria is a strategic asset of the State of Israel and it is the key to our future.”
The PA and its leaders consider all of the Temple Mount an integral part of the Al-Aqsa Mosque. Therefore they view any presence of Jews on the mount as an "invasion." It should be noted that Jews who visit the Temple Mount only enter some sections of the open areas, and do not enter the Al-Aqsa Mosque or the Dome of the Rock.
