“[Fatah’s] student movement Shabiba’s Al-Aqsa Martyrs cell at the Palestine Polytechnic University held a rally today [March 22, 2016] to honor the outstanding students. [The rally] was called the Al-Karameh Class to mark the anniversary of the Al-Karameh battle, [and was held] in the presence of Fatah Central Committee member Abbas Zaki… In a speech [in the name of] Fatah, Abbas Zaki praised… the Martyrs of Al-Karameh and of the Palestinian rebellion, and added: ‘Their belief in their ideology and their adherence to the Palestinian right [to statehood] is the path that has led the Martyrs of the Jerusalem uprising (reference to wave of Palestinian terror attacks 2015-2016 –Ed.), who have been guided by nothing but absolute faith.’ Likewise, he mentioned the importance of the adherence to the basic principles and what the great Martyrs - Yasser Arafat, Abd Al-Qader Al-Husseini (i.e., Arab commander in the 1948 war) and Ahmed Yassin (i.e., founder of terrorist organization Hamas), the anniversary of whose death falls today – died for. In addition, he expressed appreciation of the enormous sacrifices made by the Palestinian people and its students, and in particular the Martyrs who sacrificed their blood in order to obtain Martyrdom (Shahada) for Allah and for the freedom of the land that was stolen.”

The Karameh battle, or Al-Karameh - On March 21, 1968, Israeli army forces attacked the town of Karameh in Jordan, where Fatah terrorists had been launching attacks on Israel. Although Israel prevailed militarily, Arafat used the event for propaganda purposes, declaring the battle a great victory that erased the disgrace of the 1967 Six Day War defeat.

Palestinian terror wave (2015-2016) – Several months of Palestinian violence and terror attacks against Israelis, ‎including stabbings, shootings, throwing rocks and molotov cocktails, and car rammings. The wave was at its height from October 2015 through March 2016, but one man was killed in September 2015 and sporadic attacks continued after March 2016, including a bus bombing in Jerusalem on April 19, 2016.

Sheikh Ahmed Yassin - Founder and former head of the terrorist organization Hamas. The Hamas movement is responsible for numerous terror attacks and the deaths of hundreds of Israeli civilians.
