Fatah decries "agreement" between Hamas, "Israeli extremists," and former Fatah leader

“The Fatah Movement said that the alliance between the ‘[former Fatah leader and PA Parliament member Muhammad] Dahlan clique’ and Hamas and the burning of the picture of [PA] President and Commander in Chief Mahmoud Abbas in the National Soldier Square in Gaza constitute clear-cut proof and material evidence of the crime of cooperation between the sides in the coup and taking control of Gaza [in 2007], and the taking hostage of the millions of citizens of the Gaza Strip in order to implement sectarian and personal agendas that oppose the principles and goals of the national project.
Fatah Revolutionary Council member Muwaffaq Matar said yesterday [Oct. 7, 2016] in a press release that… ‘The agreement of those known as the “Dahlan clique” and “Hamas” together with the Israeli extremists in the government of [Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin] Netanyahu against the president and commander in chief [Abbas], and the display of their absolute hostility to the leader of the National Liberation Movement, the president of the Palestinian people, expose the truth regarding the plot of giving the Gaza Strip to the people of the coup.’”
2007 Hamas takeover of the Gaza Strip - Mahmoud Abbas of Fatah won the 2005 Palestinian Authority Presidential election. However, Hamas won the 2006 parliamentary elections in both the Gaza Strip and West Bank, with a majority of 74 out of 132 seats, to Fatah’s 45 seats. Fatah’s rule of the PA Presidency and Hamas’ rule of the PA government led to friction and eventually armed conflict between Hamas and Fatah. Hamas defeated Fatah militarily in the Gaza Strip in 2007, and since then Hamas rules in Gaza while the PA continues to rule the West Bank under Fatah.
