Official PA daily: We won't "cede a single grain of dust from... Palestine occupied in 1948"
Official PA daily, Al-Hayat Al-Jadida - Apr. 1, 2014

Op-ed by Najib al-Qaddumi
“On this great day, March 30, 1976, the Palestinians proclaimed their adherence to their land and their readiness to sacrifice everything to protect the land of their forefathers. This day is justly called ‘Land Day’…
After the owners of the land – the residents of the Galilee and the Triangle (a concentration of Israeli-Arab towns and villages adjacent to the Green Line in northern Israel) – revolted against the Israeli authorities, who had expropriated thousands of dunams in the region of the Galilee and the Triangle… the Zionist enemy forces invaded the villages with the aid of tanks and armored vehicles. They started shooting at the defenseless residents, who had revolted to protect the land and to thwart the plot to Judaize the Galilee…
You won’t find a single Palestinian, [whether] man or woman, old or young, who will agree to cede a single grain of dust from the land of Palestine. As the scheme to Judaize the Galilee was thwarted in the past, so the current ‘Jewish state’ scheme will be thwarted too. This is an overtly racist slogan, and with its implementation, our brethren in [the part of] Palestine occupied in 1948 (i.e., Israel) will be expelled from their forefathers’ land, and the sons of Palestine in the diaspora will be prevented from returning to their land and homes, whence they were expelled in 1948 by force of arms…
In addition, the Kerry plan now on the agenda, which is opposed to the aspirations of our people, will fail.”

Land Day – an annual commemoration of the general strike and demonstrations organized by Israeli Arab residents of the Galilee on March 30, 1976 to protest the Israeli government's decision to expropriate land in the Galilee for security and settlement purposes, which it later implemented. During the protests, demonstrators burnt tires, blocked roads, and threw rocks and firebombs. Six demonstrators were shot and killed by the Israeli army and police. Israeli Arabs and Palestinians consider Land Day a national day.
