PA youth magazine dedicates monthly article to “Palestinian cities that were occupied in 1948 (i.e., Israel)”

Headline: “Zayzafuna and building bridges with the Palestinian Writers Union in Haifa”
“It is better that an idea come late than never. The Palestinian Writers Union in occupied Haifa is an important pillar for intellectuals in the Palestinian interior (i.e., Israel), and we at Zayzafuna have met several times with the chairman of the General Union for Palestinian Writers and the Secretary General of the National Committee for Education, Culture, and Science Murad Al-Sudani. This has served as an incentive for us in this matter, especially after a national core group of this union was formed, separate from the Israeli political parties and normalization.
Therefore, we at Zayzafuna have decided to dedicate two pages a month in the Zayzafuna magazine to the topic ‘the cultural scene in Palestinian cities that were occupied in 1948 (i.e., that are within Israel)” – and this is our duty to them – in order to build cultural bridges between us. Thus we will have relations with each other, because after all we are one cultural body – no matter how much the occupation and some of us will try to separate us.
In the February 2016 issue we will publish [an article] about the cultural scene in occupied Haifa. Every month we will publish [articles] consecutively about the cultural scene in all of the Palestinian cities that were occupied in 1948, so that the ember of Palestinian culture will continue to burn and be ignited, and will not under any circumstances be extinguished.”

Zayzafuna is a PLO magazine for children partially funded by the PA. The magazine, which includes material written by both the magazine’s staff and child readers, represents the values of the educators and serves as a window into the minds of the Palestinian children submitting material to the magazine. Zayzafuna's website states that the magazine's advisory board is comprised of PA officials and educators, including Jihad Zakarneh, PA Deputy Minister of Education, and Abd Al-Hakim Abu Jamous, Head of the Media Department at the PA Ministry of Education. Since September 2015, Zayzafuna included a note on its second page thanking the PA Ministry of Finance for its financial support of the magazine (true as of the time of this writing, May 2016). In May 2011, the Deputy Chairman of the Zayzafuna organization Abd Al-Karim Ziyada explained on PA TV that the PA gives "a monthly payment of 10,000 shekels ($2,700) to cover the magazine's [costs]."
