PA Ministry of Education: We didn’t print books for teachers that referred to “Israel”
WAFA, official PA news agency - Sept. 8, 2015

Headline: “Ministry of Education: We did not print books for the National Education school program for the 8th, 9th and 10th grades”

“The [PA] Ministry of Education and Higher Education stated that it did not print books of the National Education school program for the 8th, 9th and 10th grades.
In a statement to the press, the ministry added today (Tuesday) [Sept. 8, 2015] that it provided the teachers with headlines and outlines of the study material, and gave them leeway to instill noble values, habits, and proper conduct [in the students] within a national, educational, and purposeful framework that is capable of stimulating their thinking and boosting their level of education and knowledge.
The ministry clarified that it was not the body that published the folders, sold in bookstores under the name ‘National Education’, but rather they [the folders] were a private initiative, with which the ministry has nothing to do. [The Ministry of Education added:] ‘If so, the expression that stirred controversy, “Palestinians in Israel,” by no means appeared in any of the books of the Palestinian curricula. Therefore, it is the hope of the ministry that strict care will be taken regarding attention and accuracy in everything related to information being published.’”

Note: It is an official PA policy not to refer to Israel by its name, or even to recognize Israel. See PMW bulletin on PA terminology here: http://palwatch.org/main.aspx?fi=157&doc_id=6855
