PA Foreign Minister: UK PM’s support of Israel’s founding and the “historical mistake” of the Balfour Declaration is concerning

“[PA] Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates Riyad Al-Malki said that the Palestinian side is monitoring with great care and concern the statements of British Prime Minister Theresa May (see note below –Ed.), who declared that her state is proud of the establishment of the Israeli occupation state, and that she is determined to celebrate the 100th anniversary of the ominous Balfour Promise (i.e., Declaration).
In a statement to the official [PA] radio station The Voice of Palestine this morning (Thursday) [Oct. 26, 2017], Al-Malki explained that the position of the senior British official reflects exaggeration by the government of Britain and indifference to the crime that it committed 100 years ago, and it also reflects British defiance towards Palestine and the international community.
The foreign minister again emphasized that Palestine is continuing its legal steps against Britain and the submission of lawsuits against it in the British, European, and international courts in order to demand that it correct its historical mistake against our people and give it the necessary compensation.”

The Balfour Declaration of Nov. 2, 1917 was a letter from British Foreign Secretary Arthur Balfour to Baron Rothschild stating that “His Majesty's government views with favour the establishment in Palestine of a national home for the Jewish people.” In 1922, the League of Nations adopted this and made the British Mandate “responsible for putting into effect the declaration,” which led to the UN vote in 1947 and the establishment of the State of Israel.
