Italy honors Hebron mayor just one month after he gives special honor to mothers of “Martyrs” including terrorist killers
The Italian honoring of Hebron Mayor Daoud Al-Zaatari is significant because less than a month prior, on June 2, 2016, Al-Zaatari held a ceremony called “The Prettiest Mothers” at Hebron’s town hall in which he honored the mothers of terrorist “Martyrs” from Hebron, and announced a grant for them to make a pilgrimage to Mecca in Saudi Arabia together with an escort each in the middle of the month of Ramadan, and explained: “The city’s grant is a simple gesture from its people to those deserving the greatest gifts and greatest honor.” Among these “Martyrs” were at least 2 murderers who in total killed 4 Israelis and numerous terrorists who stabbed and wounded Israelis in their attacks.

“The Italian Consul General [in Jerusalem] Davide La Cecilia yesterday, Tuesday evening [June 28, 2016], awarded the Order of the Star of Italy, that is awarded by the Italian president for the international cooperation between Italy and Palestine. The award [ceremony] was held during a collective [Ramadan] fast-breaking meal that the Hebron municipality organized at the Queen Plaza Hotel in the city, in which the Italian consul and the delegation that accompanied him took part. [The ceremony was held] in the presence of Hebron District Governor Kamel Hamid, and a number of heads of Hebron institutions and members of the city council.
In his speech, the consul noted that the Star of Italy constitutes a sign of honor which the Italian friends award in light of the outstanding Palestinian activity and the efforts of the Hebron municipality, represented by its head [Hebron Mayor] Dr. [Daoud] Al-Zaatari, to develop the Palestinian–Italian relations and help carry out the technological park and renewable energy initiatives, and initiatives in the water and sanitation sector in the city, which are funded by the Italian government.”
