Palestinian leaders honor mothers of prisoners serving life sentences

"The [PA-funded] Prisoners' Club and the [PLO] Commission of Prisoners and Released Prisoners' Affairs yesterday [March 23, 2017], on occasion of Mother's Day and under the auspices of the Ramallah and El-Bireh District and the Fatah branch, honored a number of the mothers of prisoners in the occupation's prisons, who have been sentenced to many years and life sentences.
Ramallah and El-Bireh District Governor Laila Ghannam said during the tribute held in Ramallah: 'We bow before the sacrifice of the prisoners, their mothers, and their families.' She noted that there are 19 mothers who are at this moment within the occupation's prisons. She also emphasized that all of the top officials and members of our people must always stand beside the prisoners' families and the mothers, and not only at special events, as they suffer much and need someone to ease their [suffering over] the absence of their sons.
Ghannam conveyed the greetings of [PA] President Mahmoud Abbas and emphasized that the prisoners' cause is on the Palestinian leadership's list of priorities, as there will be no freedom or independence without the release of all of the prisoners…
Director of the [PLO] Commission of Prisoners and Released Prisoners' Affairs Issa Karake praised the Palestinian woman who with her steely sacrifice has demonstrated all of the significance of partnership in the struggle and standing against the occupation’s barbarity.
He explained that since Israel occupied the Palestinian territories, it has put approximately 15,000 prisoners in its prisons. He also explained that this encourages our people to adhere to the continuation of the struggle until the defeat of the occupation.
Karake added that the occupation should be ashamed of itself, as the Palestinian woman has no parallel in the world, and she proves to the world every day that she can do the impossible. In addition he expressed his appreciation for the female prisoners, and primarily most veteran of the prisoners Lina Al-Jarbouni (i.e., convicted of being an accomplice to terrorists)…

Lina Al-Jarbouni - An Israeli Arab woman serving a sentence of 17 years, convicted March 9, 2004 of maintaining contact with and helping Islamic Jihad terrorists, of conspiring to commit terrorist attacks and of aiding an enemy during war.
