PA depicts a world without Israel
"Palestine" replaces Israel
PA depicts a world without Israel
The Palestinian Authority makes no attempt to educate its people towards peace and coexistence with Israel. On the contrary, from every possible platform it repeatedly rejects Israel's right to exist, presents the conflict as a religious battle for Islam, depicts the establishment of Israel as an act of imperialism, and perpetuates a picture of the Middle East, both verbally and visually, in which Israel does not exist at all. Israel's destruction is said to be both inevitable and a Palestinian obligation.

The following description of Israel's founding in a Palestinian schoolbook represents the dominant dogma about Israel:

"Palestine’s war ended with a catastrophe that is unprecedented in history, when the Zionist gangs stole Palestine … and established the so-called State of Israel."
[Arabic Language, Analysis, Literature and Criticism, grade 12, p. 104]

This official PA map of "Palestine” was broadcast on PA TV in September 2011. The map includes both the PA areas and all of Israel (excluding the Golan Heights) wrapped in the Palestinian flag - a symbol of Palestinian sovereignty over the whole area - and has a key through it, symbolizing ownership. Similar maps presenting all of Israel as "Palestine" appear in Palestinian schoolbooks and are shown regularly on PA TV.
"Palestine" replaces Israel
The Palestinian Authority paints a picture - both verbally and visually - of a world in which Israel does not exist. Children’s educational TV teaches that Palestine currently is a "state" (Arabic "dawla" = state) covering 27,000 sq. km - i.e., an area that includes all of Israel (the entire West Bank and Gaza Strip total only 6220 sq. km). Moreover, all Israel’s cities and infrastructure are referred to as "Palestinian": “Palestinian ports ... [are] Haifa, Jaffa, Ashkelon, Eilat, Ashdod, and Gaza". [PA TV (Fatah), Sept. 1 2008].

Maps provide visual reinforcement for this perception: Israel does not exist on any map; its area is marked as "Palestine." Maps showing the entire area of Israel covered with the Palestinian flag are routinely displayed at official PA events.

This educational documentary, depicting all parts of Israel as “Palestine," has been broadcast repeatedly on PA TV (Fatah) from 2007 – Oct 1, 2010:

“The West Bank and Gaza have another section in Palestine which is the Palestinian coast that spreads along the [Mediterranean] sea, from …Ashkelon in the south up to Haifa, in the Carmel Mountains. Haifa is a well-known Palestinian port. [Haifa] enjoyed a respected status among Arabs and Palestinians especially before it fell to the ‘occupation’ [Israel] in 1948. To its north, we find Acre. East of Acre, we reach a city with history and importance, the city of Tiberias, near a famous lake, the lake of Tiberias [Kinneret- sea of Galilee]. Jaffa, an ancient coastal city, is the bride of the sea, and Palestine’s gateway to the world.”

Official PA TV program Palestine This Morning, with the Jordan-based Palestinian Al-Hannouneh band in Amman, on Land Day
Al-Hannouneh band leader Musa Saleh: “Land Day is a very important day, and for 40 years we have been with all the groups of the Palestinian people that are renewing the promise of the land – that it is ours, was ours, and will return to being ours. There is no occupation that remains forever. The occupation always comes and goes. We are the owners of the land.”

Land Day – an annual commemoration of the general strike and demonstrations organized by Israeli Arab residents of the Galilee on March 30, 1976 to protest the Israeli government's decision to expropriate land in the Galilee for security and settlement purposes, which it later implemented. During the protests, demonstrators burnt tires, blocked roads, and threw rocks and firebombs. Six demonstrators were shot and killed by the Israeli army and police. Israeli Arabs and Palestinians consider Land Day a national day.

PA Ministry of Education rejects UNRWA recommendations for changes in school books
Source: Donia Al-Watan (independent Palestinian news agency), Mar. 26, 2017
Headline: “In documents: Accusations against UNRWA for targeting the national aspect of the textbooks”

“Ever since the characteristics became clear of the new [textbook] edition that UNRWA (UN Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East) has distributed to its teachers, which includes changes in the new textbooks for grades 1-4, a great indignation has arisen among all sectors of the Palestinian society who have said that these are changes that harm the Palestinian identity and perpetuate the occupation’s existence…
This is not the first time that UNRWA is accused of inserting terms into the Palestinian textbooks for students of its schools, as this matter came up several years ago when it tried to insert the term ‘Holocaust’ into the seventh grade national study material…
The [PA] Ministry of Education and Higher Education re-emphasized its firm opposition to any change or correction in the Palestinian textbooks, after it was disseminated that UNRWA is attempting to do this. The ministry said in a statement, a copy of which reached [the independent Palestinian news agency] Donia Al-Watan, that according to international law UNRWA must use the textbooks of the host country. The ministry explained that it will take ‘punitive steps’ against anyone who attempts to change the textbooks or manipulate them.
The ministry explained that any attempt to change the textbooks constitutes an attack against Palestine and a targeting and erasing of the national identity. It emphasized that what was reported indicates a direct targeting of the national aspect of the textbooks, in a manner that is consistent with the occupation’s plan that warps and distorts these books.

Headline: "Saidam: We will not allow any change of the [PA] Ministry of Education's curricula by UNRWA"

"[PA] Minister of Education Sabri Saidam emphasized that he adheres to the Palestinian curriculum as formulated by the [PA] Ministry of Education, and that he will not allow any change to the curriculum by UNRWA (UN Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East). Saidam said this in a letter that he sent to one of the participants in a meeting convened by the Central Council of Parents in the Gaza Districts and [the Council of Parents] in the Maghazi Refugee Camp…
The meeting participants discussed UNRWA's attempt to change the curriculum for grades 1–4 in the UNRWA schools.
Chairman of the Council of Parents in Maghazi and member of the Central Council of Parents in the Gaza Districts Wasef Abu Mashayekh explained the dangers of UNRWA changing the curriculum. He emphasized that the goal behind this is to erase the Palestinian identity. He also noted that the goal of these changes is to erase all of the Palestinian national symbols and features and harm the philosophical, moral, and national foundations of the curriculum, and first and foremost to erase the map of Palestine (i.e., the PA map of Palestine that presents all of Israel as "Palestine" together with the PA areas –Ed.) and its name, to establish the existence of the 'Israeli' occupation on the Palestinian land, and [to claim] it has a right."

Ramallah – Jericho – The Information Department of the [PLO] Supreme Council for Sport and Youth Affairs
The Israeli occupation army prevented members of the first Wandering Youth Camp, under the title 'Know Your Homeland,' from entering the Ibrahimi Mosque on Thursday [March 16, 2017] as part of a tour that was set by the Hebron district. This was on the pretext that the participants wore the camp’s shirt, on which is the map of Palestine (i.e., the PA map of “Palestine” that presents all of Israel as “Palestine” together with the PA areas) alongside the slogan ‘Know Your Homeland.’
The occupation army was not satisfied with this arbitrary step, but also intentionally delayed the participants for an hour, which encouraged the participants to refuse to obey this unfair decision. They also firmly opposed taking off the camp shirt, because it bears symbols that instill adherence to the land and identity in the minds of the youth and the participants themselves.”
