PA Mufti accuses Israel of having a “systematic plan to erase everything Arab and Islamic in Palestine, and replace it with a false Jewish substitute”

Headline: “The [PA] Grand Mufti warns against the demands of Israeli senior officials to change the status quo at the Al-Aqsa Mosque”

“[PA] Grand Mufti of Jerusalem and the Palestinian Territories and preacher at the blessed Al-Aqsa Mosque Sheikh Muhammad Hussein warned against the consequences of the statements of a number of [Israeli government] ministers and parliament members, who called for a change in the historical status quo (i.e., Jews are allowed to enter the Temple Mount, but cannot pray there or engage in any type of worship) at the blessed Al-Aqsa Mosque (See note below –Ed.) …

He added that the blessed Al-Aqsa Mosque is under brutal attack by the occupation authorities, its ministers, and Israeli Parliament members, who are demanding that the daily invasions of the blessed Al-Aqsa Mosque be legalized, that laws be enacted to allow them to invade the mosque though all its gates, and that it be considered the holiest site to Jews, as they claim. This is as part of a series of extremist acts that [the occupation authorities] are carrying out in order to harm it… according to a systematic plan to erase everything Arab and Islamic in Palestine, and replace it with a false Jewish substitute… He called on everyone who can to come to the blessed Al-Aqsa Mosque, to remain there, and to defend it. Likewise, he held the occupation authorities responsible for this aggression that fans the flame of hatred in the region, and heralds a war of religion whose results are hard to imagine.”

Israeli Parliament Speaker Yuli Edelstein and Israeli MPs Minister for Jerusalem Affairs Ze’ev Elkin, Minister of Agriculture Uri Ariel, Deputy Foreign Minister Tzipi Hotovely, Minister of Public Security, Strategic Affairs, and Information Gilad Erdan, Minister of Environmental Affairs Zeev Elkin, Deputy Minister of Defense Eli Ben-Dahan, and Yehuda Glick, attended and spoke at a conference on Nov. 7, 2016, seeking to alter the status quo at the Temple Mount, which forbids Jews to pray there, thus ending the religious discrimination at the Temple Mount.

The PA and its leaders consider all of the Temple Mount an integral part of the Al-Aqsa Mosque. Therefore they view any presence of Jews on the mount as an "invasion” or “attack." It should be noted that Jews who visit the Temple Mount only enter some sections of the open areas, and do not enter the Al-Aqsa Mosque or the Dome of the Rock.
