Abbas’ advisor: “Hebron - which the Arab Canaanites built more than 5,500 years ago… is a Palestinian city”

Official PA TV, broadcast of Friday sermon by Supreme Shari’ah Judge and Mahmoud Abbas’ advisor on Religious and Islamic Affairs Mahmoud Al-Habbash at the PA presidential headquarters mosque; in the audience: PA Chairman Mahmoud Abbas, PLO Executive Committee member Mahmoud Ismail

Supreme Shari’ah Judge and Mahmoud Abbas’ advisor on Religious and Islamic Affairs Mahmoud Al-Habbash: “We have been here in Jerusalem and Hebron for more than 5,500 years. Recently the world has acknowledged that they [Jerusalem and Hebron] belong to us. All of the international organizations, and prime among them UNESCO (UN Educational, Scientific, and Cultural Organization), acknowledge this. Hebron - which the Arab Canaanites built more than 5,500 years ago, even before Abraham came to this land - is a Palestinian city and it must remain Palestinian, and indeed it will remain Palestinian forever. Our heritage within it, and primarily the Ibrahimi Mosque (i.e., Cave of the Patriarchs), is a human and Palestinian heritage. This is what the world has determined, this is what UNESCO has determined, and even before that they also said this about Jerusalem, the Al-Aqsa Mosque, and the Muslim and Christian holy sites.”
