Rewriting history
Palestinian history fabricated
Rewriting history
Rewriting the history of the Land of Israel in order to deny Israel's right to exist is central to Palestinian Authority (PA) policy. Long before it started the PA terror campaign (the "Intifada," 2000-2005), the PA was fighting a history war – erasing Jewish history and replacing it with a fabricated Palestinian history. This rewriting has two central goals:
1- Erase the Jewish nation's 3,000 year history in the Land of Israel;
2- Invent ancient Palestinian, Muslim and Arab histories in the land.

The goal of this historical revision as a political strategy was first expressed publicly at a conference of Palestinian historians in 1998, when rewriting history was linked to the political goal of denying Israel's right to exist:
"Dr. Yussuf Alzamili [Chairman History Department, Khan Yunis Educational College] called on all universities and colleges to write the history of Palestine and to guard it, and not to enable the [foreign] implants and enemies to distort it or to legitimize the existence of Jews on this land... [History lecturer Abu Amar] clarified that there is no connection between the ancient generation of Jews and the new generation." [Al-Ayyam, Dec. 4, 1998].

Erasing Jewish history in the land of Israel is followed by the PA’s invention of ancient and modern histories that support its political ideology and claim to the land of Israel. The Holocaust and other aspects of Jewish history are alternately denied, downplayed or distorted. Another distortion is to hide from Palestinians that Jesus was a Jew who lived in the Land of Judea/Israel. PA leaders repeatedly define Jesus as a Palestinian who preached Islam, thus denying not only Jewish history, but also the history and legitimacy of Christianity.

Citing numerous examples, this section will document that these and other historical revisions are an integral part of Palestinian policy and are used to create political ideology.
Palestinian history fabricated
Having erased Jewish history, the PA fills the historical void by fabricating the ancient histories of Palestinians, Arabs and Muslims. PA academics claim that Palestinians, Arabs and Muslims all populated the Land of Israel in Biblical times and even earlier. These fictions are all historically impossible, as the name “Palestine" as a replacement for the Land of Judea/Israel was coined by Rome only in 136 C.E., Islam was established only in 610 C.E., and Arabs first arrived in Israel with the Muslim invasion in 637 C.E.

Inventing thousands of years of history when none existed is accomplished through numerous distortions and lies, including changing the Biblical Canaanites into Arabs, changing Biblical Israelis, Judeans and Hebrews into Arabs and Muslims, changing the religion preached by Moses from Judaism into Islam, and changing Jesus into a Palestinian who preached Islam and not Christianity.

This so-called documentary depicting Biblical Canaanites as Arabs, broadcast many times on PA TV, is one example of this PA historical revision.
"The Arab Canaanites established ports on the coast of Canaan, known today as Palestine. Palestine was attacked by invaders, but its Arab Canaanite features withstood attempts to change them. Jaffa was one of the cities whose Canaanite origins the invaders failed to erase." [PA TV, repeatedly, 2005-2007.]

The documentary further invents history by indicating visually that the victims of the Roman invasion were Arabs, not the Jewish kingdom of Judea.
PA daily columnist: “The Palestinian Arab nation has been rooted in its land for thousands of years”

In an article responding to US presidential candidate Gingrich's statements, PA daily columnist Adel Abd Al-Rahman claims the following facts:
"b. The Palestinian Arab nation has been rooted in its land for thousands of years, since the human habitation of the city of Jericho – the oldest city in history, which this year celebrated its 10,000-year-old history.

g. The Jewish Prof. Shlomo Sand, author of the book The Invention of the Jewish People, says: 'Although the term 'people' is fluid and not very clear, I don't believe that a Jewish people ever existed.' For two thousand years no Jewish state existed on Palestinian Arab land.'"

The 1917 Balfour Declaration was a letter from the British Foreign Minister Arthur Balfour to Lord Rothschild of the Zionist movement, which expressed Britain's support for "the establishment in Palestine of a national home for the Jewish people." Every year on the anniversary of the Balfour Declaration, Palestinian Authority leaders and official media issue harsh statements attacking it.
"Today is the 94th anniversary of the cursed Balfour promise [The Balfour Declaration of 1917], by which Britain awarded the Jews the right to establish a national home in Palestine, based on the false slogan, 'A land without a people for a people without a land'. ... This promise represented the first step taken by the West on the road to establishing an entity for the Jews on the land of Palestine, in accordance with the wishes of World Zionism, at the expense of a people which had been rooted in this land for thousands of years."

Fatah Central Committee member: Palestinians have been in Israel “for tens of thousands of years”
Source: Official PA daily, Al-Hayat Al-Jadida, Sept. 24, 2011
"Member of the Fatah Central Committee, Tawfiq Tirawi, said that the speech by President Mahmoud Abbas at the UN was a historical [speech] par excellence, expressing the full tragedy of the Palestinian people, from 1948 until today, and presented the Palestinians' demands with regard to independence, freedom, and the establishment of a state. He said, 'This was a historical speech at a historical time and at a historical place.' In response to Netanyahu's speech, he said: 'This was a pale speech that repeated itself and said nothing new; in it he expressed the occupation regime [and said] that it has historical rights to this land, as though the world doesn't know that the Prophet [Muhammad] ascended [to heaven] from the Al-Aqsa Mosque. Netanyahu spoke as though this was the land of his forefathers, forgetting that we have been here for tens of thousands of years.'"
PLO youth magazine Zayzafuna: Israelis invented the name "Phoenicians"
Source: Zayzafuna magazine, Aug. 1, 2011
Zayzafuna published a page entitled Fun that presents what it calls Facts about "Palestine":
“Did you know that the Phoenicians were themselves Canaanites, but the Israelis gave them this name in order to stir friction between the two.”

Note: This has no basis in fact. The Phoenicians were a Semitic or Canaanite people who settled along the coast of Canaan. Israel had nothing to do with their name.

The magazine, which includes material written by both the magazine’s staff and child readers, represents the values of the educators and serves as a window into the minds of the Palestinian children submitting material to the magazine. Note: This is false. There never was a country or state of “Palestine,” and in 1929 “Palestine” referred to the geographic area of the British mandate, whose residents were both Palestinian Jews and Palestinian Arabs.

Note: This is false history. There never was a state of Palestine or an ancient Palestinian Arab nation. The Nation of Israel had independence in the Land of Israel thousands of years ago, which is documented by historical sources as well as by archeological evidence.

PA fabrication: Palestinian history dates back to the period of the Canaanites

Official PA daily's columnist on religious affairs, Is'haq Feleifel:
"The book I wrote a year ago is entitled Palestine Belongs to the Arabs and Muslims, According to the Testimony of the Sovereign of the Universe. This is a Quranic study based on the 'Night Journey' chapter, in which I proved the Arab and Muslim ownership of Palestine and reviewed Palestinian history since the period of the Canaanites, via the Edomites, Emorites, Midianites, Amalekites, Ibrahim bin Azar [the biblical Abraham] and Al-Khader [a reference to the prophet Elijah] in the Islamic sources."

Abbas claims a fictitious 9000 year-old Palestinian history in Israel

Abbas speech in Gaza, delivered in his name by his advisor and representative Abdallah Al-Ifranji, in honor of "nakba" day - "catastrophe" day, the day the PA mourns the creation of the State of Israel:
PA moderator of PA Gaza event: "The speech of President Mahmoud Abbas, Chairman of the PLO Executive Committee and President of the Palestinian Authority, will be delivered by the comrade, the great fighter, Abdallah Al-Ifranji, representative and advisor of the President."
Mahmoud Abbas, (delivered by his representative, Abdallah Al-Ifranji): "National reconciliation [between Hamas and Fatah] is required in order to face Israel and Netanyahu. We say to him [Netanyahu], when he claims - that they [Jews] have a historical right dating back to 3000 years BCE - we say that the nation of Palestine upon the land of Canaan had a 7000 year history BCE. This is the truth, which must be understood and we have to note it, in order to say: 'Netanyahu, you are incidental in history. We are the people of history. We are the owners of history.'"

PA TV praises art depicting Tel Aviv as a Palestinian city, Tal Al-Rabia

PA TV report on the Spanish Consulate’s support for Palestinian art.
Discussing an exhibition of a Spanish artist’s pictures of landscapes in “Palestine”, the PA TV reporter says:

“Through 19 pictures, the artist Maria has succeeded in courageously expressing her own view of this place, and has presented pictures showing the beauty of the Palestinian locality [including parts of Israel], which she describes as Palestinian. For example, Tel Aviv, in Maria’s picture, turns into Tal Al-Rabia.”
Arab villages have existed in Israel “since the days of the Canaanites”

Columnist Yihya Rabah writes an open letter to executive director of the Ministry of Information, poet Al-Mutawakkil Taha, in response to the publication of his study on the Western Wall:
"My dear friend, poet Al-Mutawakkil Taha, former secretary general of the Association of Palestinian writers… and [currently] deputy Minister of Information… resting upon the sword of truth and scientific, objective research, has presented us with a very succinct study about the Al-Buraq Wall…
When the Al-Buraq rebellion broke out, Britain – which was at the time the primary ally of the Zionist movement – established a commission of inquiry known as the Shaw Commission. The commission came to Palestine and met all the parties… and arrived at the proven historical truth that the Al-Buraq Wall was an organic part of the Al-Aqsa Mosque, and that it was its south-western boundary, and that it [the Wall] had no connection to Solomon's Temple, which the Jews claim was destroyed by Rome in the year 70 C.E….
We understand well this wave of fury that is washing over Israel against this study and against Al-Mutawakkil… Will Israel cease to arouse sensitivities and problems and tragedies when it insists on giving Hebrew names to Arab villages that have existed since the days of the Canaanites, for thousands of years?”
PA daily: Jericho has been an "Arab-Palestinian-Canaanite" city for 10,000 years
Source: Official PA daily, Al-Hayat Al-Jadida, Oct. 21, 2010
“Ten thousand years [ago]; that is the birthdate of the oldest city in the history of human civilization. Arab-Palestinian-Canaanite Jericho, with its baked bricks and reddish color, wrote the course of the first stages in the birth of humanity. Jericho told and still tells the story of man from the cradle of civilization, up until the moment when the curtain will come down on it at some unknown time… The history and heritage of Jericho confirm the Arab-Palestinian-Canaanite narrative concerning the entire Palestinian land, from the [Mediterranean] sea to the [Jordan] river, negating anything else, especially the false Zionist narrative. … In light of all the above, the city of the moon [Jericho] proves that the Palestinian nation – the most ancient and earliest of all, whose roots are most deeply dug into history – is deserving of the patronage and protection of the international authorities and the UN, and to receive the right to self-definition and to build its own independent and sovereign nation-state, in the borders of June 4th, 1967, with East Jerusalem as its capital.”

Nabil Alqam, PA historian:
"Why does the occupation [Israel] concern itself with stealing, [cultural] theft, distorting and erasing the Palestinian heritage? Because it [Israel] seeks a history [in the land] while [Palestinian] heritage is a history that proves our connection to the land... [The Palestinian heritage] has historical depth of 4,000 to 5,000 years. And here [Israel] attempts to steal these symbols to create fake Israeli symbols and identity." Click here to view
Palestinians claim Jews steal their history

Saleh Rafat, Member of PLO Executive Committee:
"We revive this [Palestinian] heritage and cling to it in order to counter all of the attempts by Israel, by the Israeli occupation, to steal the national heritage and to falsify it with the claim that it is their heritage - from cuisine to clothing, and architecture. Every part of our heritage in our land, they claim is their heritage - even the tunnels they are trying to dig beneath the Al-Aqsa Mosque and under Jerusalem. Many of these tunnels are ancient tunnels that carried water to Jerusalem, and they [Israelis] claim that they are seeking an alleged Temple." Click here to view
