Headline: “Jenin marked Land Day by honoring the Martyrs of the popular uprising”
“The National Union of Martyrs’ Families in the Jenin district marked Land Day yesterday [March 29, 2016] by honoring the families of the popular uprising’s (i.e., reference to wave of Palestinian terror attacks, 2015-2016) Martyrs (Shahids) from the district and from within the 1948 territories (i.e., Israel).
The ceremony for the event took place in the hall of the [PA] National Security Forces’ camp Horsh Al-Saada, sponsored by [PA] Prime Minister Rami Hamdallah, and in the presence of Jenin district Deputy Governor Kamal Abu Al-Rub and Fatah Central Committee member [and Fatah Commissioner for Arab and China Relations] Abbas Zaki…
Zaki stated: ‘Land Day is an important event in the Palestinian memory and a day of Palestinian confrontation of the Israeli settlement policy and the Judaization, uprooting, and land levelling actions.’ He praised the sacrifices made by the Martyrs, prisoners, and injured, who give us hope to continue the struggle until the achievement of the legal rights of our people, first among them the emptying of the prisons, and the release of our people’s leaders. Likewise, he condemned the fact that the world is silent and leans towards Israel, which continues its terror against our people, and called for national unity and the ending of the rift [between Fatah and Hamas]… The ceremony included… the honoring of relatives of 21 Martyrs, and the honoring of the families of Martyrs Omar Al-Naif and Ayman Jaradat.”

Land Day – an annual commemoration of the general strike and demonstrations organized by Israeli Arab residents of the Galilee on March 30, 1976 to protest the Israeli government's decision to expropriate land in the Galilee for security and settlement purposes, which it later implemented. During the protests, demonstrators burnt tires, blocked roads, and threw rocks and firebombs. Six demonstrators were shot and killed by the Israeli army and police. Israeli Arabs and Palestinians consider Land Day a national day.

Omar Al-Naif – Palestinian terrorist who carried out an attack with two other terrorists, murdering Israeli Eliahu Amdi in the Old City of Jerusalem on Nov. 15, 1986. He was arrested and sentenced to life, but after beginning a hunger strike, he was transferred to a mental hospital from which he escaped in 1990. He escaped to an Arab country and in 1994 moved to Bulgaria. On Feb. 26, 2016 he was found dead on the grounds of the Palestinian embassy in Sofia, Bulgaria, where he had taken shelter two months earlier. Bulgaria has stated that no signs of violence were found on his body. However Palestinians insist that he was assassinated by Israel.

Ayman Jaradat – he and Nu'man Al-Shalabi together murdered Israelis Jamil Hassoun and Mufid Ali Kanaan. In addition, he murdered 2 Palestinian men who were suspected of collaborating with Israel. He was arrested in April 1993 and was serving 4 life sentences when he was released in December 2013 as one of 104 terrorists whom Israel agreed to release to fulfill the PA's precondition for renewed negotiations.
