Jerusalem under assault
Denial of Jewish connection to Jerusalem
Jerusalem under assault
In 2009 the Palestinian Authority has initiated an unprecedented campaign of historical revision and anti-Israel libels concerning Jerusalem, the focal point being the erasure and denial of 3,000 years of Jewish history in Jerusalem.

In addition, the PA disseminates the libel that Israel is acting both to expel Arabs from Jerusalem and to destroy the Al-Aqsa Mosque. The Jerusalem libels are designed to evoke religious hatred by portraying Israel and the Jews as a threat to Arabs and Islam.

This section documents the recent intensification of the Palestinian Authority's campaign of distortion, historical revision and hate incitement surrounding Jerusalem.

This cartoon with the caption "Judaization of Jerusalem" shows, from right to left, a sinister-looking Jew first sharing the chair with an Arab and then shoving him off.
[Al-Hayat Al-Jadida, official PA daily, Feb 24, 2009]
Denial of Jewish connection to Jerusalem
"Jerusalem is the religious, political and spiritual capital of Palestine - the Jews have no right to it," declared senior PA religious official, Dr. Tayseer Al-Tamimi, PA Chief Justice of religious court. Accordingly, any Jewish life and development in Jerusalem is labeled as "Judaization." Jerusalem is presented as an exclusively Muslim and Christian city, with no regard to history or archeology, and even the existence of the Temple being denied.
Fatah official: Jewish patriarch Abraham was a Muslim, “which refutes the Zionists’ (i.e., Jewish) claims” about the Cave of the Patriarchs and the Temple Mount

Headline: “Fatah leader: The [Eid Al-Adha] holiday prayers at the Ibrahimi Mosque are a challenge against the occupation”
“Fatah Movement Central Committee member and [Fatah] Commissioner for Arab and China Relations Abbas Zaki emphasized… in a statement to [the Egyptian news website] Al-Bawaba News today, Friday [Sept. 1, 2017], that… Israel is moving in the direction of unprecedented extremism, which makes it necessary to leave the deceptive illusion of peace and prepare to confront the occupation on all levels. He explained that Ibrahim (i.e., the Biblical figure Abraham), the father of the prophets, was a monotheistic Muslim (sic., in Jewish traition Abraham was the first Jew and lived over 2,000 years before Islam began), which refutes the Zionists’ claims about the Ibrahimi Mosque (i.e., Cave of the Patriarchs) and the Al-Aqsa Mosque (i.e., the Temple Mount). Therefore, the Arab and Islamic nation must have an active presence in order to deter the occupation and its steps against the Palestinian people, its land, and its holy sites.”
Fatah cartoon celebrates “victory” over Israel following removal of security measures on Temple Mount
Source: Official Fatah Facebook page, July 27, 2017
Cartoon posted on the official Fatah Facebook page

The cartoon shows a disheveled Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu dressed in an army uniform and walking away from the Temple Mount, carrying a metal detector on his back and a security camera and boot hanging around his neck, while three Palestinians joyously embrace and are embraced by the Al-Aqsa Mosque, the Dome of the Rock, and the Church of the Holy Sepulchre, as one of them waves a Palestinian flag. The cartoon refers to the Palestinians’ feeling of victory after Israel removed the metal detectors and security cameras that it placed on the Temple Mount following an attack there on July 14, 2017, in which 2 Israelis were murdered (see note below).
The text on the cartoon - "Victory is better than sleep" - is apparently meant to encourage Palestinians to celebrate their "victory" into the night.

Abbas: Jerusalem must be “purely Arab”, “no Palestinian state whose capital is not Jerusalem”; Israel planning to “establish alleged Temple”
Source: Official PA daily, Al-Hayat Al-Jadida, July 23, 2017
Excerpt of the full speech of Secretary-General of the PA Presidential Office Tayeb Abd Al-Rahim, given on behalf of PA Chairman Mahmoud Abbas at the opening of the Second National Forum for Scientists in Palestine

“You know that the Palestinian leadership yesterday [July 22, 2017] held a meeting… in order to discuss the current situation and formulate appropriate solutions to deal with the developments. As far as we’re concerned, Jerusalem is our political Qiblah (i.e., the direction for Muslim prayer, Mecca)… to which our compass will not cease to point, no matter what the sacrifices may be. There will be no Palestinian state whose capital is not Jerusalem, and Jerusalem must be purely Arab for its Muslims and Christians. We will not agree to Jewish rule or sovereignty over it... My brothers, [Israel] forcing sovereignty on Jerusalem is an old plan for these followers of the Talmud. I tell you that this is not about a division [between Jews and Muslims] according to [prayer] times or areas in Jerusalem (sic., on the Temple Mount), but rather it is a step on the way to establishing the alleged Temple, which they are talking about now in the most open manner and with the utmost recklessness and insolence.”

The cartoon refers to the metal detectors Israel placed at the entrances to the Temple Mount following a terror attack in which 2 Israelis were murdered. Two of the terrorists were shot and killed by other policemen during the attack. The third terrorist was shot and killed while trying to flee.
Israel's following security measures, which included closing the Temple Mount for two days and installing metal detectors at the entrances to the religious site have been portrayed by Palestinian leaders as "blatant aggression" and "escalation."

Fatah official: UNESCO resolution proves "falsification" of Israeli "narrative" in Jerusalem, confirms Palestinian right to "resist"
Source: Amad, independent Palestinian news website, July 5, 2017
Headline: "Alayan: The UNESCO resolution regarding Jerusalem and the Al-Aqsa Mosque demands Arab action"
"Prominent Fatah leader in occupied Jerusalem Raafat Alayan welcomed the renewed voting on [another] UNESCO (UN Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization) resolution regarding the illegality and non-sovereignty of the Israeli occupation in Jerusalem, the Old City [of Jerusalem], and the blessed Al-Aqsa Mosque, as well as the condemnation of the excavations that the occupation is carrying out under the Al-Aqsa Mosque and the Old City. He added that this resolution, with all of its details, is very important and proves the falsification that Israel has tried to create with its narrative, and [Israel's] attempt to change the status quo in Jerusalem throughout the years of its occupation of the holy city. Alayan added that this international resolution confirms the right of the Palestinian people to resist the Israeli occupation, which violates all of the international resolutions and challenges the world with its actions against our Palestinian people that suffers from the torments of the occupation and its terror."

Abbas’ religious advisor: Jews have no right to Temple Mount; Netanyahu is dragging region toward a “merciless religious war”
Source: Official PA daily, Al-Hayat Al-Jadida, July 4, 2017
Headline: “Al-Habbash: Netanyahu is dragging the region in to a volcano of religious war"

"Supreme Shari’ah Judge and [PA] President [Mahmoud Abbas’] advisor on Religious and Islamic Affairs Mahmoud Al-Habbash said that Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s decisions are a sort of declaration of war against the Al-Aqsa Mosque and a dragging of the region to the opening of a volcano of merciless religious war that will bring about total destruction, and by whose fire everyone will be burned.
Al-Habbash said this after Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu announced the cancellation of the ban on Israeli Parliament Members and ministers entering the Al-Aqsa Mosque plazas (i.e., the Temple Mount)…
He noted that this step is a blatant violation of the international resolutions regarding the holy sites in the holy city [of Jerusalem], and of the occupying authority’s obligation to defend them and prevent the falsification of their history with false claims that have no connection to history or human civilization.
Al-Habbash noted that the Al-Aqsa Mosque and all facilities of the Jerusalem Noble Sanctuary (i.e., the Temple Mount), including the Al-Buraq Wall (i.e., the Western Wall of the Temple Mount), are an Islamic site that belongs only to the Muslims, and that nobody but them has a right to it. This is based on the divine decision that appears in the Al-Isra Sura [of the Quran] (i.e., describing Prophet Muhammad's Night Journey – see note below), in addition to the international decisions on the matter and the latest UNESCO (UN Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization) resolutions that affirmed the Islamicness of the Jerusalem Noble Sanctuary. Al-Habbash also noted that the Palestinians will not let their Al-Aqsa Mosque be subjected to violations and desecration by the extremist gangs and the Israeli right, which is leading Israel and the region to disasters, wars, and destr
Abbas’ religious advisor: Israel “invading”’ the Temple Mount, a “purely Palestinian Islamic site”
Source: Official PA daily, Al-Hayat Al-Jadida, June 30, 2017
Headline: "The occupation police closed the Al-Aqsa Mosque and settlers invaded it"

"Those that are called 'alleged temple' organizations and extremist [Israeli] occupation government Minister of Agriculture Uri Ariel two days ago [June 28, 2017] called on the settler public to participate in its masses in group invasions of the Al-Aqsa Mosque yesterday, Thursday, to mark the anniversary of the killing of settler Hallel Ariel (13-year-old Israeli girl, stabbed to death by a terrorist as she slept in her bed–Ed.), who was killed last year in one of the settlements in Hebron…
Supreme Shari’ah Judge of Palestine and [PA] President [Mahmoud Abbas’] advisor on Religious and Islamic Affairs Mahmoud Al-Habbash… noted that the extremist groups, which are supported by the Israeli political and security echelon, take advantage of every religious or political incident or event in order to connect it to the ongoing invasions of the blessed Al-Aqsa Mosque. This is in an attempt to cover up the crimes against the Muslims and the sites holy to Islam in Jerusalem, and the fact that they [the Muslims] are being prevented from holding their religious ceremonies that are anchored in international law, and also in order to prepare the mood for implementing the division of the Jerusalem Noble Sanctuary (i.e., the Temple Mount) according to areas and times, as was done at the Ibrahimi Mosque (i.e., Cave of the Patriarchs). Al-Habbash emphasized that these holy sites are a pure Palestinian Islamic heritage to which non-Muslims have no right, as was determined by the latest UNESCO (UN Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization) decisions."

Palestinian independent website accuses Abbas for “renouncing” Palestinian claims to Al-Burqa Wall [Western Wall]
Source: Fatah Voice, independent Palestinian news website, June 25, 2017
Headline: "A new crisis: Al-Habbash is losing his position as advisor to the president because of his opposition to Abbas' policy"

This report was publicized by Fatah Voice, an independent Palestinian news website known for being anti Abbas.

"[PA President] Mahmoud Abbas is continuing his tyrannical policy against anyone who opposes his destructive policy that has mired the Palestinian cause in mud. This is so, as a senior official in the Muqata’a (i.e., the PA's presidential headquarters) in Ramallah emphasized that [Supreme Shari’ah Judge and Mahmoud Abbas’ advisor on Religious and Islamic Affairs] Mahmoud Al-Habbash will soon leave his position as the president’s advisor on religious affairs, after he diverged from Abbas’ formula for the Al-Buraq Wall (i.e., the Western Wall of the Temple Mount) which [Abbas] has considered part of the Israeli sovereignty.
The holiday sermon given by Supreme Shari’ah Judge and President Mahmoud Abbas’ advisor on Religious and Islamic Affairs Mahmoud Al-Habbash at the presidential mosque today, Sunday [June 25, 2017], in the presence of President Abbas, [PA] Prime Minister Rami Hamdallah, and others, was not published later in the media, despite having been broadcast on the official radio and TV. After checking, sources noted that the sermon was not published because Al-Habbash again emphasized his position on the Al-Buraq Wall by saying: 'The Al-Buraq Wall is part of the Al-Aqsa Mosque and part of our people’s continuity and survival . We will not agree to [Israeli] sovereignty over Jerusalem, the Al-Aqsa Mosque, and the Al-Buraq Wall, and will continue to gather strength until we get it back and raise our flag above it.'

PA Mufti denies Jews’ right to the Western Wall: Al-Aqsa and Jerusalem are ours, all four of walls around it are part of Al-Aqsa
Source: Official PA daily, Al-Hayat Al-Jadida, June 24, 2017
Headline: “150,000 worshippers held the [last] Friday prayer of Ramadan at the Al-Aqsa Mosque plazas”

“[PA] Mufti of Jerusalem and preacher at the Al-Aqsa Mosque Muhammad Hussein, on the last Friday of the blessed [Muslim fasting] month of Ramadan, conveyed a message from Saladin [Al-Ayyubi’s] pulpit to the world that we are holding onto the blessed Al-Aqsa Mosque, because it is a principle of [our] faith and a place of worship, and we will continue to carry out Ribat (i.e., religious conflict/war over land claimed to be Islamic) there and visit it.
He emphasized that the Al-Aqsa Mosque and Jerusalem are ours and that all four of the walls around it, including the Al-Buraq Wall (i.e., the Western Wall of the Temple Mount), are part of the Al-Aqsa Mosque.”

The Al-Buraq Wall - Islam's Prophet Muhammad is said to have rode during his Night Journey from Mecca to "al aqsa mosque", i.e., "the farthest mosque" (Quran, Sura 17), and there tied his miraculous flying steed named Al-Buraq to a "stone" or a "rock." (Jami` at-Tirmidhi, Book 47, Hadith 3424). In the 1920's, Arab Mufti Haj Amin Al-Husseini decided to identify the Western Wall of the Temple in Jerusalem as that "rock" or "stone," and since then Muslims refer to the Western Wall as the "Al-Buraq Wall."

Al-Husseini expressed hope that the Portuguese friend will be a faithful messenger of the attack against the Palestinian people and will convey… the truth about what is happening in the Palestinian arena, and particularly in the occupied capital, Jerusalem, that is dealing with Judaization and Israelization attempts against its land, people, and holy sites. This is in an open attempt to falsify history, erase [Jerusalem’s] Christian and Islamic identity, and escalate the pace of targeting the Al-Aqsa Mosque.”
PA official: All of Jerusalem belongs to the Palestinians
Source: Amad, independent Palestinian news website, June 4, 2017
Headline: “Abu Shanab responded to Rajoub’s statements: All of Jerusalem belongs to the Palestinians”

“Prominent member of the Fatah Movement leadership [and Fatah Revolutionary Council member] Dr. Hazem Abu Shanab emphasized that all of Jerusalem belongs to the Palestinians, and whoever disagrees with this is not a Palestinian.
He said this in a statement that reached [the independent Palestinian news website] Amad today, Sunday [June 4, 2017], in response to [Fatah Central Committee Secretary] Jibril Rajoub’s statements to the Hebrew [Israeli TV] Channel 2, in which he recognized the Jewish sovereignty over the Al-Buraq Wall (i.e., the Western Wall of the Temple Mount) (see note below –Ed.)…
Abu Shanab emphasized: ‘The Al-Aqsa Mosque is ours, as is what is above it, below it, to its right, and to its left. All that is underground and above it up to the sky is ours, until we reach Paradise. All of Jerusalem, the Old [City] and the new, the east and the west, the north and the south, and all that is around it is ours, the Palestinians, historically, geographically, politically, religiously, culturally, educationally, scientifically, and in terms of literature, without any shadow of a doubt, and this has been confirmed by the resolutions of the international bodies and UNESCO (UN Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization).’”

In an interview with Israeli TV Channel 2 on June 3, 2017, Fatah Central Committee Secretary Jibril Rajoub said: “[US President Donald Trump] went to the Western Wall, and we understand that it is a holy site for the Jews, and in the end it must be under Jewish sovereignty - there is no argument over that.” The interview was filmed.

[PA] Minister of Foreign Affairs Riyad Al-Malki said in statements to [the official PA radio station] The Voice of Palestine: ‘It is clear that the American position is a clear position that opposes any Israeli participation in [US] President [Donald] Trump’s visit to the Al-Buraq Wall (i.e., the Western Wall of the Temple Mount) or the Church of the Holy Sepulchre, because they are part of the West Bank and the occupied territories that do not belong to the State of Israel.’ He added: ‘This is a strong political position that we welcome. Abbas’ advisor: Israeli minister’s dress with Temple Mount was ”racist and a denial of history,” Jerusalem is “Arab and Islamic,” Temple Mount “belongs only to Muslims”
Source: WAFA, official PA news agency, May 18, 2017
Headline: "Al-Habbash condemned the Israeli minister of culture's harm to the sites holy to Islam"

"Supreme Shari’ah Judge of Palestine and [PA] President [Mahmoud Abbas’] advisor on Religious and Islamic Affairs Mahmoud Al-Habbash condemned the open provocation of extremist Israeli Minister of Culture [and Sport] Miri Regev of the sensibilities of the Muslims and Palestinians by wearing a dress on which was a picture of the holy Noble Sanctuary (i.e., the Temple Mount), including the Dome of the Rock and the blessed Al-Aqsa Mosque…
He described this behavior as racist, a denial of history and culture, and a failed attempt to steal the culture of our people that has been rooted in this land for thousands of years. He also said that if the head of the cultural pyramid in Israel commits theft in broad daylight before the eyes of the whole world, this is proof that all of the occupation state’s institutions are uniting in order to falsify the facts and challenge the decisions of the international community and the world, which have verified that the holy city [of Jerusalem] is Arab and Islamic and that the holy Jerusalem Sanctuary, with all of its sections, belongs only to the Muslims and nobody but them."
