Jerusalem under assault
Denial of Jewish connection to Jerusalem
Jerusalem under assault
In 2009 the Palestinian Authority has initiated an unprecedented campaign of historical revision and anti-Israel libels concerning Jerusalem, the focal point being the erasure and denial of 3,000 years of Jewish history in Jerusalem.

In addition, the PA disseminates the libel that Israel is acting both to expel Arabs from Jerusalem and to destroy the Al-Aqsa Mosque. The Jerusalem libels are designed to evoke religious hatred by portraying Israel and the Jews as a threat to Arabs and Islam.

This section documents the recent intensification of the Palestinian Authority's campaign of distortion, historical revision and hate incitement surrounding Jerusalem.

Denial of Jewish connection to Jerusalem
"Jerusalem is the religious, political and spiritual capital of Palestine - the Jews have no right to it," declared senior PA religious official, Dr. Tayseer Al-Tamimi, PA Chief Justice of religious court. Accordingly, any Jewish life and development in Jerusalem is labeled as "Judaization." Jerusalem is presented as an exclusively Muslim and Christian city, with no regard to history or archeology, and even the existence of the Temple being denied.
Official PA TV: Israelis "invaded the holy Mosque" and discussed "the myth and fable of the alleged Temple"
Source: Official Palestinian Authority TV, June 8, 2014
Official PA TV News on Jewish visits to the Temple Mount:
Official PA TV newsreader: “Our correspondent told us that the [Israeli] settlers invaded the holy [Al-Aqsa] Mosque by means of small groups that entered one after the other and held provoking tours in the Al-Aqsa [Mosque] plaza and its buildings, during which the extremist Glick gave explanations about the myth and fable of the alleged Temple.”

Notes: The PA considers any presence of Jews on the Temple Mount an "invasion." However, all visitors are subject to rigorous checks by Israeli security personnel before being granted access to the Temple Mount.

Rabbi Yehuda Glick is the Chairman of the Temple Mount Heritage Foundation that works to increase awareness of the central place the Temple Mount and the Temple hold in Jewish heritage through educational activities and by encouraging people to visit the Temple Mount. He is also active in the Temple Mount Faithful movement whose goal is to build the Third Temple on the Temple Mount. In addition he is the coordinator of the LIBA initiative - The Jewish Freedom on the Temple Mount initiative whose goal is to obtain freedom and civil rights for Jews on the Temple Mount.
The Israel Police has banned Glick from entering the Temple Mount and has detained him on several occasions for acting in a way that could disrupt order.
Sheikh: "The stones of Jerusalem say to it [Israel], 'You are a foreigner'"
Source: Al-Hayat Al-Jadida, June 7, 2014
‎“The Supreme Muslim Council organized ‎a [protest] vigil and sit-down strike on the ‎‎47th anniversary of the Naksa (i.e., ‘the ‎setback,’ Palestinian term for Israel's ‎victory in the Six Day War) and in support ‎of the Al-Aqsa Mosque on the steps of the ‎Damascus Gate, one of the most famous ‎gates of the Old City…‎
The Mufti of Jerusalem and Palestine, ‎Sheikh Muhammad Hussein, warned of ‎the occupation’s intensifying Judaization ‎projects in Jerusalem. He continued: ‘The ‎oppressive occupation is trying to Judaize ‎the people and the stones, and to ‎obliterate the city’s Islamic and Arab ‎landmarks. But Jerusalem will remain the ‎heart and eternal capital of Palestine.’ ‎
Fatah Revolutionary Council member ‎Hatem Abd Al-Qader said: ‘On this ‎anniversary and this [protest] vigil, we ‎recite the Al-Fatiha Sura (opening Sura of ‎the Quran) over the souls of the Martyrs ‎‎(Shahids), salute the prisoners, and ‎emphasize that the occupation does not ‎scare us and will not alter our will despite ‎all its actions.’ He continued: ‘Jerusalem ‎will remain Islamic, Arab, Palestinian, and ‎the occupation is ephemeral, as were all ‎those who were foreign to it [Jerusalem]...’ ‎
Deputy Head of the Islamic Movement in ‎the 1948 territories (i.e., Israel) Sheikh ‎Kamal Khatib: ‘… 47 years have passed ‎since the occupation of Jerusalem; ‎despite this, the people of Jerusalem say ‎to the occupation: “You are a foreigner;” ‎the stones of Jerusalem say to it: “You are ‎a foreigner;" and the land and skies of ‎Jerusalem say: “The occupation is foreign, ‎and it will leave, just as all the previous ‎occupations left.”’”‎
Abbas rep: Palestinian presence in Jerusalem is 5000 years old, Israel threatens the city's Islamic-Christian identity
Source: Al-Hayat Al-Jadida, May 13, 2014
“The talks at the International Conference for the Support of Jerusalem, organized by the UN, the Organization for Islamic Cooperation and the Turkish Foreign Ministry, began in the Turkish capital, Ankara, yesterday [May 12, 2014], with the participation of PA Chairman Mahmoud Abbas’ representative, [PA] Minister of Religious Affairs Mahmoud Al-Habbash…
In the speech [given in the name] of the President [Abbas], Al-Habbash asserted that Palestinian presence in Jerusalem dates back over 5,000 years, and that the Palestinians are the only permanent element in Jerusalem, while the others came and went. Al-Habbash described the grave dangers threatening Jerusalem under the Israeli occupation – despite the fact that nobody in the world recognizes Israel’s sovereignty over it. He called on all powers, parties and governments to cooperate in defending Jerusalem and protecting its Islamic-Christian identity.”

PA Minister of Religious Affairs demands all of Jerusalem for Palestinians, "Or there will be no peace"
Source: Official Palestinian Authority TV, May 2, 2014
Official PA TV broadcast the Friday sermon from the Al-Tashrifat Mosque in the presidential compound in Ramallah. The sermon was delivered by PA Minister of Religious Affairs Mahmoud Al-Habbash. The audience included PA Chairman Mahmoud Abbas and PA Finance Minister Jawad Naji.
PA Minister of Religious Affairs Mahmoud Al-Habbash: “Our rights are non-negotiable and we state them clearly. We want a real state with clear borders, with Jerusalem as its capital – and hear [me] well: Jerusalem as its capital, not with its capital in Jerusalem; its capital is the whole of Jerusalem, all of Jerusalem – who ever wishes [otherwise], let them wish [otherwise] and whoever opposes, let them oppose, in spite of them. Jerusalem will be nothing other than ours, or there will be no peace…
Forming one government for one people, one authority, one state, with one leadership and one weapon; with one decision that will lead, in a few months’ time, to free elections, in which the Palestinian people will state its will…
[The new unity government] will concentrate the administrative decisions (i.e., all internal affairs) of the Palestinian government and the Palestinian people under one umbrella, one authority, one weapon and one security [establishment], which will protect the rights of the Palestinian people and the dignity of the Palestinian person.”
PA spokesman: Israel creates "visual pollution" in "creating a history of Israel and the Jews in Jerusalem which is nonexistent"
Source: Official Palestinian Authority TV, Apr. 23, 2014
Official PA TV News reported on the visit of Adnan Al-Damiri, official spokesman of the PA Security Forces and Commissioner General of the political leadership, to Jerusalem.
Adnan Al-Damiri, official spokesman of the PA Security Forces and Commissioner General of the political leadership: “In addition to the environmental pollution caused by the waste that the settlements and their criminals produce and dump on the Palestinians, the occupation is now trying to create visual pollution for the world, by polluting Jerusalem’s landscape through the new inventions it is trying to devise, with the aim of creating a history of Israel and the Jews in Jerusalem which is nonexistent, despite all the excavations.”
PA daily: "Temple Mount is another biblical myth"
Source: Al-Hayat (London), Apr. 20, 2014
Op-ed by Jihad Al-Khazen in the official PA daily, re-printed from the London-based Al-Hayat:
"The news [reported] that Israel's Foreign Minister, Avigdor Liberman, said he had held talks with Saudia Arabia and Kuwait, and that Israel can establish diplomatic relations with the Gulf states, since they share Israel's fear of Iran...
Liar, son of a liar, from a terrorist Khazar dynasty, immigrant thug from Moldova, with no right to be in occupied Palestine. The other war criminal, Benjamin Netanyahu, had already alluded to dialogue and relations with the Gulf states against Iran. The Gulf states undoubtedly have reason to be concerned about Iran's Persian aspirations, but they won't deal with them through cooperation with an occupying terrorist state founded on biblical myths...
The Temple Mount is another biblical myth and is not beneath the Noble Sanctuary (Islamic name for the Temple Mount), or above it, or anywhere else. That is a fact, not an opinion, since Yitzhak Rabin, during his first government in the 1980’s, excavated beneath the “Noble Sanctuary” and found the remains of an Umayyad [Islamic] palace, which he tried to restore, but the religious parties resisted him. They told him: ‘[You are] adding sin to crime,’ a phrase… meaning, in this context, that not only did he not find remains of the Temple Mount, but wanted to restore an Umayyad Temple instead.”

PA minister denies Jewish history and complains of “Judaization” of Jerusalem
Source: Al-Hayat Al-Jadida, Mar. 7, 2014
“[PA] Minister of Religious Affairs Mahmoud Al-Habbash emphasized that the continuing settlement and Judaization of the holy city [Jerusalem], the attacks on its holy sites, the escalating Israeli aggression against Jerusalem, the falsifying of its history with the aim of erasing its cultural, human and historical heritage, and the demographic and geographic changes in the city are all moves that are null and void according to international law, the decisions of the international institutions, and the Geneva and Hague Conventions for the Protection of Cultural Property.
In addition, he warned again of the danger of the racist Israeli violations being planned against [the] Al-Aqsa [Mosque], the Ibrahimi Mosque (Cave of the Patriarchs), and the rest of our people’s holy sites, all of which confirm that Israel’s aim is to tighten its control over [the] Al-Aqsa [Mosque], in preparation for destroying it and building their alleged Temple.”

PA minister accuses Israel of goal to rule over Al-Aqsa; refuses to recognize Israel's "existence in Jerusalem"
Source: Official Palestinian Authority TV, Feb. 28, 2014
Official PA TV broadcast the Friday sermon from the Al-Tashrifat Mosque in the presidential compound. The sermon was delivered by PA Minister of Religious Affairs Mahmoud Al-Habbash.
PA Minister of Religious Affairs Mahmoud Al-Habbash: “In the occupation state (i.e., Israel), they are talking about a tale, about a lie and [the] insane [idea] of extending Israeli sovereignty to the Al-Aqsa Mosque. What sovereignty is this? Whoever told you we even recognize your existence in Jerusalem? Whoever said we recognize your right to even a single millimeter of the land of Jerusalem? Who said this? You even talk about [having] sovereignty over our hearts, over our faith, over our religion. Who said this? Who can imagine such insanity? This insanity will not end well. It will not end well; it will not lead to anything good. They must understand that the Al-Aqsa Mosque is not a red line. The Al-Aqsa Mosque is a line of fire that will burn any hand that may be extended towards it to harm it.”
PLO Executive Committee member mocks Jewish tours that teach about the "alleged Temple"
Source: Al-Hayat Al-Jadida, Feb. 27, 2014
“Ahmed Qurei, ‘Abu Alaa’, PLO Executive Committee member and Head of the Department for Jerusalem Affairs… said that Jerusalem is in a very difficult situation, which manifests itself in [the fact] that the occupation government has intensified its racist Judaization measures against the Al-Aqsa Mosque and increased the settlers’ invasions of its plazas, as well as the discovery and instruction tours they conduct inside it, during which they give lessons on the ‘alleged Temple’…
In addition, the head of the Department for Jerusalem Affairs rejected the criminal actions being perpetrated by the Israeli occupation authorities, which contradict all norms and international conventions: the ongoing excavations beneath the foundations of the Al-Aqsa Mosque. He emphasized that these excavations, deep underground, which target the foundations of the Al-Aqsa Mosque, have been going on non-stop for years, to the point that a gigantic synagogue has been built beneath the Mosque.”
Op-ed in PA daily: Jews were never present in Israel, such claims are nothing more than “fairy tales”
Source: Al-Hayat Al-Jadida, Feb. 27, 2014
Op-ed by Adli Sadeq, PLO Ambassador to India and regular columnist for official PA daily
“These days, the occupiers have reached the height of their rampage in their parliament, which is populated by a handful of crazy people reinforced by fairy tales and bundles of dreams, not a single letter of which has been proven true by a single stone of Jerusalem…
Each day, they come out with a new refrain that not [even] the first Zionists before them could have imagined, and pretend that their alleged Temple stood exactly at the site of the Al-Aqsa Mosque…
Recognizing the ‘Jewishness of the State’ is an implicit confirmation that the refugees have no rights, that we stole ourselves a homeland and have not been [living] on our ancestors’ land for thousands of years. If the Jews were indeed present [here] for a short period in the history of our land, that presence was not along the coast, nor in the north or south of Palestine. In other words, the Jews never passed through or were present in the territories which the peace process firmly defines as being outside the negotiations and [designates] as Israeli territory.”
PA minister: Western Wall "belongs exclusively to Muslims"
Source: Official Palestinian Authority TV, Feb. 21, 2014

PA Minister of Religious Affairs Mahmoud Al-Habbash:‎ ‎“This is our land and we will not leave our land. ‎Our Al-Aqsa Mosque – no one has the right – no one has the right to a single millimeter of it. The ‎entire Al-Aqsa Mosque is a pure Islamic-Palestinian right. It is not permissible or acceptable that even a ‎single millimeter of it will be ruled, dominated or seized by these usurping terrorist settlers... The right ‎to pray at the blessed Al-Aqsa Mosque belongs exclusively to Muslims, exclusively to Muslims... The ‎Al-Aqsa Mosque with its courtyards, its colonnades, its stone benches, its domes, its trees, its walls, ‎includes the Al-Buraq Wall (i.e., the Western Wall of the Temple Mount), especially the Al-Buraq ‎Wall... Our land is our land. Our Jerusalem is our Jerusalem. Our Al-Aqsa is our Al-Aqsa. The names will ‎not change. The identity will not change. The place will not change. The Al-Aqsa Mosque will remain ‎the Al-Aqsa Mosque until the Hour [of Resurrection]. We ask Allah the Almighty to watch over it, ‎protect it and liberate it.”‎
Fatah official denies Jewish historical connection to Western Wall
Source: Al-Filistiniya TV (Fatah Party), Feb. 19, 2014
Al-Filistiniya TV program Special Coverage hosted Fatah Central Committee member Dr. Jamal Muhaisen.
Fatah Central Committee member Dr. Jamal Muhaisen:
“We demand that all the lands conquered in [19]67 be under Palestinian control. As I said, the exchange [of territories] will be in the border areas, not in Jerusalem. When you talk about what is known as the ‘Al-Buraq Wall’ (i.e. The Western Wall of the Temple Mount), even the British committee that came to Palestine in the 1930s and examined the issue found that this is the ‘Al-Buraq Wall’ and not the ‘Wailing Wall.’ For this reason, we repeat that any site with a connection to the religious aspect – we believe in freedom of religion and in people’s [right to] visit the religious sites. However, so far, none of the archeologists, not [even] the Israeli ones, have proved the existence of a single remnant of the Israeli side in the places claimed to be theirs. I repeat: we will only agree to all [parts] of Jerusalem conquered in ’67 being a part of the Palestinian state and the capital of the State of Palestine.

Note: The 1930 Wailing Wall Commission was appointed by the British government, with the approval of the League of Nations, to settle the matter of the Jews’ and Muslims’ rights and claims to the Western Wall. The commission concluded that the Western Wall had served as a Jewish holy site long before it became a Muslim Waqf (an inalienable religious endowment in Islamic law) and that it had never served the Muslims for religious purposes. The commission’s final conclusion was that the Western Wall was holy only to the Jews and therefore they should be granted free access to worship at the site.
PA religious leader: Jews have no rights to Western Wall of Temple Mount
Source: Al-Hayat Al-Jadida, Feb. 17, 2014
“[Sheikh Tayseer Al-Tamimi, former Chief Justice of PA religious court] warned of tomorrow’s [February 18, 2014] discussion in the Israeli Parliament on the subject of the bill to extend the sovereignty of the Israeli occupation to include the blessed Al-Aqsa Mosque, [noting that] if this bill, which is contrary to the law of God and to international treaties and laws, is passed, it will lead to a religious war…
Al-Tamimi added that ‘Allah, may He be glorified and exalted, decreed that the blessed Al-Aqsa Mosque is Islamic and belongs to Muslims alone… It is part of the religious belief of a billion and a half Muslims, and the Jews have no right to it. No party, no matter how much power and international support it has, can change this established fact by giving the Jews any right to it, or the right to pray in any part of it. The Al-Aqsa Mosque includes all its courtyards, foundations, skies, gates, domes, walls, and specifically, its western wall (Al-Buraq Wall), [parentheses in source], which is, after all, a part of it...’
Al-Tamimi said: ‘It is with great pride that we remember the attitude of President Martyr Yasser Arafat, of blessed memory… who refused to give the Jews any right to the blessed Al-Aqsa Mosque.’”

PA minister: Jews are "employing techniques of falsification and fabrication to turn the historical and religious facts upside down"
Source: Al-Hayat Al-Jadida, Feb. 11, 2014
“[PA] Minister of Jerusalem Affairs and Jerusalem District Governor Adnan Al-Husseini received the new British Consul General, Dr. Alastair McPhail, in his office in the [Jerusalem] neighborhood of Al-Barid yesterday afternoon [Feb. 10, 2014], and briefed him on the latest incidents that have befallen Jerusalem and its residents.
He [Al-Husseini] explained that the arbitrary measures being implemented by the occupation authorities in the various areas – economic, social, political and legal – in addition to the racist separation fence, the support of the settlers’ provocations and rampages, as well as other factors, have paralyzed life in the Holy City. In addition, he noted that the occupation authorities are desecrating the Islamic and Christian holy sites, and the Al-Aqsa Mosque in particular, and are employing techniques of falsification and fabrication to turn the historical and religious facts upside down, in order to realize their false claims regarding the extension of Jewish character [over the city] and erecting the alleged Temple on the ruins of [the] Al-Aqsa Mosque.”

PA Islamic-Christian Council: Israel carries out "Judaization of the Holy City, [to] obscure its Arab features and give it a foreign, Jewish character"
Source: Al-Hayat Al-Jadida, Dec. 31, 2013
“The [PA’s] Islamic-Christian Council for Support of Jerusalem and the Holy Sites stressed yesterday, Monday, [Dec. 30, 2013] that many Judaization measures and Israeli initiatives were carried out in 2013 to complete the Judaization of the Holy City, obscure its Arab features and give it a foreign, Jewish character. As part of these [efforts], the occupation authorities expropriated additional lands, demolished homes and expelled hundreds of Jerusalem residents…
The Council's Secretary-General, Dr. Hanna Issa, added: ‘We view the daily desecration of the holiness of the blessed Al-Aqsa Mosque and the daily invasions of it as one of the main challenges posed by the Israeli occupation authorities during 2013, with all their power, for the purpose of Judaizing the Mosque and realizing their aspirations and claims on its ruins.’”

PA minister: Western Wall is part of Al-Aqsa Mosque and belongs to Muslims by right

PA Minister of Religious Affairs Mahmoud Al-Habbash: "Jerusalem is religion's trust and history's trust in the hands of all Muslims, in the hands of this Ummah (Islamic Nation). We are Muhammad's heirs. It is we who inherited Jerusalem, by its being conquered religiously through the Prophet [Muhammad]'s will, and later by [Islam] actually conquering it [in 683]. We are its inheritors and it belongs to us and to no one else. Visit Jerusalem. We, as Palestinians, Arabs and Muslims, must visit the Al-Buraq Wall. The Al-Buraq Wall (i.e., the Western Wall of the Temple Mount) is an authentic part of the Al-Aqsa Mosque only... It [the Wall] is our right, it is our permanent right. It is part of our Al-Aqsa [Mosque], without intending to harm the rights of others in any way, and without harming the rights of others. Freedom of worship in our Jerusalem is guaranteed to all... We do not dispute anyone's traditions, and we do not dispute anyone's religion. Nonetheless, we have rights, principles and positions that cannot possibly be altered."
