Jerusalem under assault
Denial of Jewish connection to Jerusalem
Jerusalem under assault
In 2009 the Palestinian Authority has initiated an unprecedented campaign of historical revision and anti-Israel libels concerning Jerusalem, the focal point being the erasure and denial of 3,000 years of Jewish history in Jerusalem.

In addition, the PA disseminates the libel that Israel is acting both to expel Arabs from Jerusalem and to destroy the Al-Aqsa Mosque. The Jerusalem libels are designed to evoke religious hatred by portraying Israel and the Jews as a threat to Arabs and Islam.

This section documents the recent intensification of the Palestinian Authority's campaign of distortion, historical revision and hate incitement surrounding Jerusalem.

Denial of Jewish connection to Jerusalem
"Jerusalem is the religious, political and spiritual capital of Palestine - the Jews have no right to it," declared senior PA religious official, Dr. Tayseer Al-Tamimi, PA Chief Justice of religious court. Accordingly, any Jewish life and development in Jerusalem is labeled as "Judaization." Jerusalem is presented as an exclusively Muslim and Christian city, with no regard to history or archeology, and even the existence of the Temple being denied.

Headline: “Zakki briefed the [Tunisian] Afek Tounes party Secretary General on the Palestinian developments”
“Fatah Central Committee member and Commissioner of Arab Relations Abbas Zaki briefed the Afek Tounes Party Secretary General Fawzy Abd Al-Rahman yesterday, Friday [July 24, 2015], about the developments in the Palestinian arena, especially the feverish [Israeli] attempts to Judaize and take over the Al-Aqsa Mosque and the holy places of Islam and Christianity.”
Islamic Council: “The only ones entitled to the [Al-Aqsa] mosque, its courtyards, corridors, and every part of it [i.e., the Temple Mount], are the Muslims”
Source: Official PA daily, Al-Hayat Al-Jadida, July 24, 2015
“The [Palestinian] Supreme Fatwa Council condemned the escalation of Israeli calls to invade the Al-Aqsa Mosque and hold Talmudic ceremonies (i.e., Jewish prayers) in its pure courtyards... In addition, it stressed that the Israeli plan to Judaize Jerusalem and the Al-Aqsa [Mosque] or to lay a hand on them is a delusion , as the only ones entitled to the mosque, its courtyards, corridors, and every part of it, are the Muslims. Jerusalem will retain its Islamic face and Arab identity, and the occupation will not rob it of its identity, no matter how far it goes with its crimes and falsification of facts. The council urged the citizens and Muslims in the world who can reach the Al-Aqsa [Mosque], to increase their presence in it, in order to assist it to stand firm against the plots against it, and stressed that our people will hold onto their mosque until Allah inherits the land and everything on it, whatever the required sacrifices may be.”

PA official: Israel has plans to "destroy the Al-Aqsa Mosque and build the alleged Temple on its ruins."
Source: Wattan TV (Palestinian private channel), July 21, 2015
Headline: “Hanna Issa calls for Ribat at the Al-Aqsa [Mosque] on the ‘anniversary of the destruction of the Temple’”
“Secretary-General of the [Palestinian Authority’s] Islamic-Christian Council for Jerusalem and the Holy Places, Dr. Hanna Issa, stated that Ribat (i.e., religious conflict/war over land claimed to be Islamic) at the Al-Aqsa Mosque and presence in it, are not limited to the month of Ramadan alone, and called on Palestinians to carry out Ribat in the coming days in order to thwart the settlers’ plots to invade [the Al-Aqsa Mosque compound]… Issa noted the words of the extremist Yehuda Glick regarding his plans and efforts regarding the Al-Aqsa Mosque: ‘The Jerusalem Noble Sanctuary (i.e., the Temple Mount) is a place of worship for all the religions, where all pray to God. Because the Dome of the Rock cannot hold all of them, we need a larger building,” [and Issa said] this is a clear, allusion to the plans striving to destroy the Al-Aqsa Mosque and build the alleged Temple on its ruins.”

Note: The PA considers any presence of Jews on the Temple Mount an "invasion." However, all visitors are subject to rigorous checks by Israeli security personnel before being granted access to the Temple Mount.

“PA Grand Mufti of Jerusalem and the Palestinian Territories... Sheikh Muhammad Hussein called to increase visits to the Al-Aqsa Mosque, in order to thwart the escalating Israeli calls to invade the Al-Aqsa Mosque [compound ] and hold Talmudic ceremonies (i.e., Jewish prayers) in its pure courtyards. This was after the extremist Temple organizations called on their supporters to organize a Jewish demonstration in front of the Golden Gate (in Jerusalem’s old city walls –Ed.) this Tuesday [July 14, 2015], the 27th of Ramadan, in order to demand that the Al-Aqsa Mosque [compound] be closed to all Muslims during the anniversary of the so-called ‘destruction of the Temple.’ (i.e.,Tisha B’Av – see note).”

Note: “Extremist Temple organizations” – refers ‎to religious Jewish movements including the ‎Temple Mount Heritage Foundation, The ‎Jewish Freedom on the Temple Mount ‎initiative and Students for the Temple Mount, ‎which spread awareness of the importance of ‎the Temple Mount in Judaism and encourage ‎people to visit the site. On July 14, 2015, several of these organizations held a planned demonstration in Jerusalem's Old City. The demonstration was allowed by the Israeli Supreme Court and protested the discrimination against Jews on the Temple Mount.  The PA sees any presence of Jews on the Temple Mount as an "invasion". Jews are not permitted to pray on the Temple Mount and have very limited access to the holy site. All visitors are subject to rigorous checks by Israeli security personnel before being granted access to the Temple Mount.

Tisha B’Av is a Jewish fast day commemorating the destruction of the First and Second Temples in Jerusalem and the forced exile of all Jews from the land of Israel.

PA Minister of Religious Affairs: Israel is carrying out “evil plan to destroy the Al-Aqsa Mosque and establish the alleged Temple”
Source: Official Palestinian Authority TV, July 8, 2015

Official PA TV program
Palestine this Morning hosted PA Minister of Religious Affairs Yusuf Ida’is.
Topic: The restrictions Israel places on the entry of Muslims from the West Bank into Jerusalem
PA Minister of Religious Affairs, Sheikh Yusuf Ida'is: ”Indeed, the Israeli establishment insists on carrying out its evil plan to destroy the Al-Aqsa Mosque and establish the alleged Temple. This is [done] by establishing facts on the ground, for the Muslims, so they will accept the inevitability of the situation. Every month there are invasions. Last month, there were more than 184 invasions into places of worship, and especially into the blessed Al-Aqsa Mosque [plaza] (i.e., the Temple Mount), as the Israeli establishment allows the herds of settlers to enter the blessed Al-Aqsa Mosque [plaza] daily - which provokes the feelings of Muslims - under protection of the Israeli occupation police.”

Abbas: Israel is trying to “Judaize” the Western Wall
Source: Official PA daily, Al-Hayat Al-Jadida, June 19, 2015
Headline: “The President [Abbas] to [Egyptian magazine] Rose Al-Yusuf: All efforts to achieve peace should be made in accordance with the international decisions”
Q: Could you elaborate on the campaign to isolate Israel politically and economically?
PA Chairman Abbas: Because of this campaign, which has begun before 2012 and is still running, all of Europe now says that the settlements are illegal, and Washington also stated, through its Secretary of State John Kerry, that the settlements are illegal. Furthermore, Europe has taken another step forward and boycotted all products originating from settlements, because they are illegal, and this is the first time in history that Europe has taken such positions. Therefore we continue in this direction and we will not stop. This is what I have said when I have spoken to several American officials – that our goal is to isolate Israel’s policy… and they say: ‘You want to isolate Israel.’ I told them, however: ‘I recognize Israel but I demand to isolate its policies.’ If I did not mean to recognize it, I would have stopped my relations with them [the Israelis], but I do not wish to boycott them, but rather to isolate their foreign policy in all the countries of the world and, praise Allah, we have succeeded. This is what made the Pope, who recently visited us, change his planned route and pray at the Al-Buraq Wall (i.e., the Western Wall) which Israel is trying to Judaize, and he also prayed near the [separation] fence, which was not part of his program, in order to tell the world: ‘We are against the fence.’”

Political Islam researcher Muhammad ‎Hijazi: “The vision of the ‎Zionists and the extremist settlers for the ‎holy city: They try to take over and ‎divide the Al-Aqsa Mosque. They want to ‎destroy the Al-Aqsa Mosque while talking about the Temple of Solomon. For 20 years, Israel has been ‎digging under the foundations of the Al-‎Aqsa Mosque.      “The ‘Hana Al-Quds’ network for social communication held a press conference yesterday, Monday [June 1, 2015], at the Institute for Modern Media in Ramallah, regarding the continuous invasions of the Al-Aqsa Mosque and their implications… [Mufti of Jerusalem and the Palestinian Territories] Sheikh [Muhammad] Hussein emphasized that non-Muslims have no right to the Al-Aqsa Mosque, and it is the obligation of every Muslim and Christian who has holy places in Jerusalem to wake up and protect them because of the major changes the occupation is making to the character of the holy city. Likewise, he emphasized that Al-Aqsa is an Islamic mosque, with all it includes, and that what the occupation is carrying out is a culture war, whose goal is to eradicate the character of the holy city and its Arab and Islamic identity by spreading [the idea of] the alleged Temple and biblical fantasies.”

PA Deputy Minister: Palestinians were in Jerusalem “centuries before the Jewish religion”
Source: Official Palestinian Authority TV, May 24, 2015

Deputy Minister of Jerusalem Affairs and member of Fatah’s Revolutionary Council, Salwa Hadib:
‎‎“Jerusalem is not only a religious city. Jerusalem is civilization. It has been a Canaanite city for ‎thousands of years. The Palestinian people has been present in it for thousands of years, whether it ‎was in Babylon, Assyria or Canaan, they [the Palestinians] gathered in the area before anything else, ‎centuries before the Jewish religion... An Israeli engineer and an archeologist brought Israeli coins – ‎shekels and agoras – and threw them on the ground before the renovation [of the Al-Karmi ‎neighborhood in Jerusalem] in order to prove, after dozens and hundreds of years, that “we (i.e., the ‎Israelis) were present here.” They are stealing history and geography.”‎

Source: Official Palestinian Authority TV, May 9, 2015

PA TV narrator
: "The Jews conquered it [Silwan neighborhood] along with Jerusalem [in 1967]. From then on, there have been plans to Judaize and to erase Arab and Muslim antiquities through tunnel excavations and theft of antiquities and by fabricating a fake Jewish name, such as the 'City of David.'
This is Silwan... Through these evil projects, the Israeli occupation seeks to restore the alleged Kingdom of David and to build his palace there, in order to achieve its evil goal: Full control over the Al-Aqsa Mosque and building the alleged Temple in its place."

PA official: Israel plans to turn Jerusalem into "a city with a Jewish character" and place "a copy of the Temple in place of the Al-Aqsa Mosque"

Headline: “Issa warns of Jerusalem becoming a ‘city with a Jewish character’”
“Secretary-General of the [PA's] Islamic-Christian Council for Jerusalem and the Holy Places Hana Issa, warned of the occupation entity’s meticulous plan against the occupied city of Jerusalem, particularly the old city and the Al-Aqsa Mosque, aimed at turning [Jerusalem] into a city with a Jewish character, with a copy of the Temple in place of the Al-Aqsa Mosque, and of the Holy of Holies (an inner sanctuary within the Temple in Jerusalem. -Ed) in place of the Dome of the Rock.”
Fatah leader: Israelis "are strangers to this land both now and historically-speaking"
Source: Official PA daily, Al-Hayat Al-Jadida, Mar. 29, 2015
Headline: “Netanyahu and his five principles”

Op-ed by Fatah Revolutionary Council member Bakr Abu Bakr, regular columnist for official PA daily

“In [achieving] his electoral success, [Israeli Prime Minister] Benjamin Netanyahu did not rely on his rhetorical skills alone …rather, he stuck to five basic principles designed to project an image and reap success:
1. Netanyahu adopted a policy of instilling fear in the Israelis - as if his radical, terrorist government that opposes evacuating the settlements could promise the Israelis security, livelihood and stability…
2. The second principle [Netanyahu] relies on is the theft and crude falsification of history, based on the assumption that Palestine is the land of his “ancestors” – even though [Netanyahu] and those he represents are strangers to this land both now and historically speaking or [the land of] those he claims are his kings and prophets. This is [merely] a belief, and if he holds it, he has made good use of it to influence the Israeli and international consciousness, which is dominated by the bible’s historical nonsense.
3. The third principle, related to those described above, is that Netanyahu’s reliance on the falsification and theft of history is connected to the strong link created between the false-historic (in the Bible and its adjuncts) and the spiritual-religious [all parentheses in source]. He succeeded in inciting all the Orthodox Israelis (who will soon be the majority of the population), who are eager to steal lands, are thirsty for blood to please their god (against the gentiles), and crave pockets full of money..."

Fatah spokesman: Israel is “falsifying the facts… to prove the unprovable: that Jerusalem is Jewish”
Source: WAFA, official PA news agency, Mar. 12, 2015
“Fatah spokesman in Jerusalem Raafat Alayan said that the marathon set to take place tomorrow, Friday, in Jerusalem, ‘had no other aim than to realize a political agenda of Judaization,’ and that the participation of several countries in the marathon perpetuates the Israeli policy. In a statement to the press on Thursday, he explained that with this marathon, Israel is trying… to impose the Israeli narrative and the Biblical names disseminated by the occupation municipality. Alayan added that in order to realize this, Israel is seeking to replace the names of Jerusalem’s streets and landmarks with Hebrew names, and to prove that Jerusalem, both East and West, is the united capital of the State of Israel, according to Israel – especially considering the fact that [the marathon] will cross the streets of West and East Jerusalem, and will pass through the quarters of the Old City, according to the published map of the marathon route. [Alayan noted that] it was stated on the map that ‘[the marathon] would pass through 3,000-year-old sites in the history of Jerusalem, whereby Israel is acting to falsify the facts in an attempt to prove the unprovable: That Jerusalem is Jewish’…  Alayan noted that the choice of Friday for the occupation activity, and the deployment of 1,000 policemen and 600 civilian security guards was meant to prevent [Muslim] worshippers from reaching the blessed Al-Aqsa Mosque for the Friday prayer, especially considering that Israel had announced the closing of dozens of roads and traffic arteries during the marathon, which will be held during the Friday prayer.”

Source: Official Palestinian Authority TV, Mar. 11, 2015

PA TV narrator
: "The occupation authorities are working incessantly to change the character of occupied Jerusalem. The Judaization octopus is spreading [its arms] to devour what is left of the historic sites that left their mark on the city for thousands of years. One of those sites is the Silwan Spring (i.e., Gihon Spring), which the occupation later turned into Talmudic walking trails... "
PA TV reporter: "We are at the Silwan pool. This is a historic site with definite Arab-Palestinian-Canaanite roots and history..."
Fakhri Abu Diab, member of the Silwan and Al-Bustan Neighborhood Defense Committee: "5,000 years ago, the Jebusite and Canaanite Arabs came and founded Jerusalem... The Jews understood the history and significance of this historic landmark, and wanted to impose a Biblical- Talmudic-Jewish story on this place, in order to falsify facts and prove that they have a past and a history in this area."

"The plot against the Al-Buraq Wall (i.e., the Western Wall) began during the British occupation, for this occupation's authorities sought to allow Jews access to the Al-Buraq Wall... After the Balfour Promise (i.e., Declaration), Jewish Zionist announcements appeared in Western newspapers calling for the building of their false and alleged Temple, until the situation became such that on Sunday, Sept. 23, 1928, a separating curtain was placed between men and women at the Al-Buraq Wall, and they blew their shofars (rams' horns) there. This roused the Muslims and made them understand that the Jews' ultimate goal was to gradually take control of the Al-Aqsa Mosque under the pretext that it is their false and alleged Temple, and they are starting [to do] this from the Al-Buraq Wall."
