Jerusalem under assault
Denial of Jewish connection to Jerusalem
Jerusalem under assault
In 2009 the Palestinian Authority has initiated an unprecedented campaign of historical revision and anti-Israel libels concerning Jerusalem, the focal point being the erasure and denial of 3,000 years of Jewish history in Jerusalem.

In addition, the PA disseminates the libel that Israel is acting both to expel Arabs from Jerusalem and to destroy the Al-Aqsa Mosque. The Jerusalem libels are designed to evoke religious hatred by portraying Israel and the Jews as a threat to Arabs and Islam.

This section documents the recent intensification of the Palestinian Authority's campaign of distortion, historical revision and hate incitement surrounding Jerusalem.

This cartoon with the caption "Judaization of Jerusalem" shows, from right to left, a sinister-looking Jew first sharing the chair with an Arab and then shoving him off.
[Al-Hayat Al-Jadida, official PA daily, Feb 24, 2009]
Denial of Jewish connection to Jerusalem
"Jerusalem is the religious, political and spiritual capital of Palestine - the Jews have no right to it," declared senior PA religious official, Dr. Tayseer Al-Tamimi, PA Chief Justice of religious court. Accordingly, any Jewish life and development in Jerusalem is labeled as "Judaization." Jerusalem is presented as an exclusively Muslim and Christian city, with no regard to history or archeology, and even the existence of the Temple being denied.
Fatah leader: Israelis "are strangers to this land both now and historically-speaking"
Source: Official PA daily, Al-Hayat Al-Jadida, Mar. 29, 2015
Headline: “Netanyahu and his five principles”

Op-ed by Fatah Revolutionary Council member Bakr Abu Bakr, regular columnist for official PA daily

“In [achieving] his electoral success, [Israeli Prime Minister] Benjamin Netanyahu did not rely on his rhetorical skills alone …rather, he stuck to five basic principles designed to project an image and reap success:
1. Netanyahu adopted a policy of instilling fear in the Israelis - as if his radical, terrorist government that opposes evacuating the settlements could promise the Israelis security, livelihood and stability…
2. The second principle [Netanyahu] relies on is the theft and crude falsification of history, based on the assumption that Palestine is the land of his “ancestors” – even though [Netanyahu] and those he represents are strangers to this land both now and historically speaking or [the land of] those he claims are his kings and prophets. This is [merely] a belief, and if he holds it, he has made good use of it to influence the Israeli and international consciousness, which is dominated by the bible’s historical nonsense.
3. The third principle, related to those described above, is that Netanyahu’s reliance on the falsification and theft of history is connected to the strong link created between the false-historic (in the Bible and its adjuncts) and the spiritual-religious [all parentheses in source]. He succeeded in inciting all the Orthodox Israelis (who will soon be the majority of the population), who are eager to steal lands, are thirsty for blood to please their god (against the gentiles), and crave pockets full of money..."

PA libel: Israel's "aspiration" is to destroy Al-Aqsa Mosque and to build "alleged Temple"

"It is no secret that the 'Israeli' aspiration since the occupation of East Jerusalem in the war of 1967 has been to first divide the Al-Aqsa Mosque and perhaps even to destroy it, in order to build, eventually, their alleged Temple."

PA daily: The Western Wall is "Islamic property with a Palestinian identity"
Source: Al-Asima, bi-weekly distributed with official PA daily, Feb. 25, 2015
Headline: "Al-Buraq Wall (i.e., the Western Wall) - Islamic property with a Palestinian identity"
"The plot against the Al-Buraq Wall (i.e., the Western Wall) began during the British occupation, for this occupation's authorities sought to allow Jews access to the Al-Buraq Wall... After the Balfour Promise (i.e., Declaration), Jewish Zionist announcements appeared in Western newspapers calling for the building of their false and alleged Temple, until the situation became such that on Sunday, Sept. 23, 1928, a separating curtain was placed between men and women at the Al-Buraq Wall, and they blew their shofars (rams' horns) there. This roused the Muslims and made them understand that the Jews' ultimate goal was to gradually take control of the Al-Aqsa Mosque under the pretext that it is their false and alleged Temple, and they are starting [to do] this from the Al-Buraq Wall."

Al-Buraq Wall (i.e., the Western Wall of the Temple Mount) - Islam's Prophet Muhammad is said to have rode during his Night Journey from Mecca to "al aqsa mosque", i.e., "the farthest mosque" (Quran, Sura 17), and there tied his miraculous flying steed named Al-Buraq to a "stone" or a "rock." (Jami` at-Tirmidhi, Book 47, Hadith 3424). In the 1920's, Arab Mufti Haj Amin Al-Husseini decided to identify the Western Wall of the Temple in Jerusalem as that "rock" or "stone," and for Muslims

PA Mufti: Israel “tried to lay the cornerstone for Solomon’s alleged temple”
Source: Official PA daily, Al-Hayat Al-Jadida, Feb. 17, 2015
“Grand Mufti of Jerusalem and the Holy Lands [Sheikh] Muhammad Hussein stressed that the [Al-Aqsa Mosque’s] prayer halls, domes, gates, passageways, stone benches, and auxiliary structures form an inseparable part of the Al-Aqsa Mosque... He [Sheikh Muhammad Hussein] noted that they [Israel] had already attacked the Al-Aqsa Mosque in 1996, [at which] the Palestinian people came out against them in what became known as the “Tunnel Uprising” (i.e., the Western Wall tunnel riots, see below), and also in 1996, when they tried to lay the cornerstone for Solomon’s alleged temple, after which the Murabitin (i.e., those carrying out Ribat, religious conflict/war to protect land claimed to be Islamic) came out and confronted them [in clashes] which claimed [the lives] of 20 Martyrs (Shahids). Then came [Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin] Netanyahu’s [sic.; should be Ariel Sharon’s] attempt to defile the courtyards of the Al-Aqsa [Mosque] in September 2000, which led to the blessed second Intifada (i.e., the Al-Aqsa Intifada, the PA terror campaign 2000-2005) which started in the Al-Aqsa courtyards in order to defend Al-Aqsa from the attempts to desecrate it, take control over it and provoke the Muslims’ sensibilities…
[Sheikh Muhammad Hussein] added that [Israel is aware that,] in desecrating the holy places and the places of worship, it has ignited a deadly game, and that whoever perpetrates crimes against us and our holy places must bear the consequences..."

PA religious leader: Western Wall ‎belongs to Al-Aqsa Mosque and “non-‎Muslims have no right to it”‎
Source: Official Palestinian Authority TV, Feb. 13, 2015
Official PA TV broadcast the Friday ‎sermon from Arafat’s mausoleum in ‎Ramallah. The sermon was delivered by ‎Mahmoud Al-Habbash, the Supreme ‎Shari’ah Judge and Mahmoud Abbas’ ‎Advisor on Religious and Islamic Affairs:
‎‎“As far as we are concerned, the entire ‎Al-Aqsa Mosque, whose area is 144,100 ‎square meters, 144 dunams and 100 ‎‎[square] meters, includes the covered Al-‎Aqsa Mosque, that is, the Southern ‎Mosque, as well as the ancient ‎underground Al-Aqsa Mosque beneath ‎the Al-Aqsa Mosque, the Marwani Prayer ‎Hall [Solomon’s Stables], the Dome of the ‎Rock, the courtyards and porticoes, ‎schools and walls – including the Al-‎Buraq Wall (i.e., the Western Wall), ‎which is called, and will always be ‎called, the Al-Buraq Wall, whether they ‎like it or not [– all this is the Al-Aqsa ‎Mosque]. Even at the time of the British ‎Mandate, the commission sent by the ‎Mandatory authorities to discuss the issue ‎of the Al-Buraq Wall confirmed that it was ‎waqf (i.e., an inalienable religious ‎endowment in Islamic law) belonging to ‎Muslims, and that non-Muslims had no ‎right to it. Sooner or later, Jerusalem in its ‎entirety will return [to us]. It is and will ‎‎[always] remain the capital of Palestine.” ‎

PA Mufti: The Al-Aqsa Mosque (i.e., Temple Mount) is "the exclusive right of Muslims"
Source: Ma’an, independent Palestinian news agency, Feb. 12, 2015
Headline: "Grand Mufti warns of the naming of the Al-Aqsa Mosque 'Temple Mount'"
"[PA] Grand Mufti of Jerusalem and the Palestinian Territories and Preacher at the blessed Al-Aqsa Mosque Sheikh Muhammad Hussein warned about the placement of a sign by the occupation [Jerusalem] municipality near the Council Gate ( i.e., entrance to the Al-Aqsa Mosque on the Temple Mount), with the inscription, 'Temple Mount.' The Mufti said this step came as part of the attempts to divide the blessed Al-Aqsa Mosque between Muslims and Jews, extend their influence over it and establish facts on the ground inside it, like what happened at the Ibrahimi Mosque (i.e., Cave of the Patriarchs) in Hebron, in order to realize their aspirations to build the alleged Temple on the ruins of the blessed Al-Aqsa Mosque.
The Mufti explained that with the elections of the occupation authorities approaching, all the parties are trying to draw the votes of the extreme right by increasing the attack on the Palestinian people and its holy places. He emphasized that the Israeli plan to Judaize Jerusalem and the blessed Al-Aqsa Mosque, and to lay hands on them, is an illusion, because the blessed Al-Aqsa Mosque with its courtyards, porticoes and all [other] parts, both those above ground and those below - is the exclusive right of Muslims. He also noted that Jerusalem would retain its Islamic character and Arab identity, and that the occupation would not steal its character and identity, no matter how long it continues its crimes and its falsification of facts."

Abbas' advisor on religion: "Jews have no right" to Jerusalem
Source: WAFA news agency, Feb. 11, 2015
Headline: "Al-Habbash demands that UNESCO intervene to prevent the falsification of the facts and history in Jerusalem"
"Mahmoud Al-Habbash, the Supreme Shari'ah Judge and the President's [Mahmoud Abbas'] Advisor on Religious and Islamic Affairs, demanded today [Feb. 11, 2015], that UNESCO urgently and immediately intervene to prevent the Israeli occupation from falsifying the facts and destroying the human heritage in Jerusalem. In a press release, Al-Habbash warned of the severity of the escalatory measure implemented by the Israeli occupation municipality crews, in placing a sign in Arabic, Hebrew and English calling the blessed Al-Aqsa Mosque 'the Temple of Solomon' near the Inspector's Gate (Council Gate) [parenthesis in source], one of the gates of the blessed Al-Aqsa Mosque.
Al-Habbash said that Israel's changing of names in the Holy City is a kind of intentional falsification of history and heritage, and a desperate attempt to deny the [city's] Arab and Islamic character and force a new, invented character - the Jewish character. He noted that this was a most dangerous step, heralding grave consequences. Al-Habbash explained that, despite the Judaization actions carried out by the Israeli occupation government and its various branches against Jerusalem, and despite the attempts to eradicate its Arab and Islamic characteristics and the continuing land expropriation and construction of settlements on its land, this will not change the fact that it [Jerusalem] is the religious, political and spiritual capital of Palestine, to which the Jews have no right."

"[PA] Minister of Religious Affairs Sheikh Yusuf Ida'is said that the occupation had opened the first month of the new year with over a hundred attacks and incidents of desecration of the Al-Aqsa Mosque and the Ibrahimi Mosque (i.e., Cave of the Patriarchs)... He explained that the blessed Al-Aqsa Mosque is in grave and direct danger, and that with every sunrise, this danger grows - [a fact that] requires the consolidation of a mode of operation on the Islamic, Arab and international levels, in order to save it [the Al-Aqsa Mosque] from destruction, division or [from] the building of the alleged Temple. He stressed that the Al-Aqsa Mosque, with all its territories, plazas (i.e., including the Temple Mount), buildings, porticoes and foundations both above and below ground, is an exclusively Islamic and Muslim right."

PLO official uses term “the alleged Temple”

“PLO Executive Committee Member and Head of the Department for Jerusalem Affairs Ahmed Qurei ‘Abu Alaa’ condemned the invasion of the Al-Aqsa Mosque plazas through the Mughrabi Gate by dozens of settlers… In a press release [published] today, Wednesday [Jan. 28, 2015], Qurei strongly condemned the invasion by several groups of settlers, who included several members of the alleged Temple organizations.”

Note: The PA considers any presence of Jews on the Temple Mount an "invasion." However, all visitors are subject to rigorous checks by Israeli security personnel before being granted access to the Temple Mount.
"Alleged Temple organizations" refer to religious Jewish movements including the Temple Mount Heritage Foundation, The Initiative for Jewish Freedom on the Temple Mount and Students for the Temple Mount, which spread awareness of the importance of the Temple Mount in Judaism and encourage people to visit the site. PLO official: “Every inch of the Holy City is the property of Muslims”
Source: Official PA daily, Al-Hayat Al-Jadida, Jan. 15, 2015
“Headline: PA Mufti and Qurei warned of attempts to infringe on the ownership of the Al-Aqsa Mosque”
“PA Mufti of Jerusalem and the Palestinian Territories and Preacher at the Al-Aqsa Mosque Sheikh Muhammad Hussein warned of the attempts to infringe on the ownership of the Al-Aqsa Mosque, which belongs to Muslims alone and no one else. These statements were made after an extremist occupation organization declared its plans to officially register the Al-Aqsa Mosque as the property of the Israeli government in order to build Jewish synagogues on parts of it, ahead of the construction of the alleged Temple… ‘Abu Alaa’ strongly rejected the unrealistic myths being propagated by these evil Israeli organizations, according to which they are the owners of the Al-Aqsa Mosque. In addition, he emphasized that every inch of the Holy City is the property of Muslims around the world, and that all the claims of these Israeli organizations, and all the plans they are proposing, are nothing but false and empty claims, lies and false fantasies. In addition, he called for action, using all means, against any cowardly Israeli attempt to harm the sanctity and standing of the Al-Aqsa Mosque – the first direction of [Muslim] prayer and the third holiest site [in Islam] – as it constitutes, in its entirety, a waqf (i.e., an inalienable religious endowment in Islamic law), requiring the entire Arab and Islamic nation to defend and protect it.”

Al-Aqsa Mosque preacher: “History bears witness to the fact that there are no historic Jewish landmarks [in Palestine]”

“The education administration in the Bethlehem district, together with the Al-Dawha municipality, organized a conference with the title, ‘The Future of the Islamic and Christian Holy Places in Jerusalem’ in the city of Al-Dawha, with the participation of [Head of the Palestinian Organization of Clerics and Disseminators of Islam and former Mufti of Jerusalem] Sheikh Dr. Ikrima Sabri, Archbishop Atallah Hanna and [advisor to Mahmoud Abbas on Jerusalem Affairs] attorney Ahmed Al-Ruweidi …
In his speech, Sabri, the imam and preacher of the Al-Aqsa Mosque and the head of the Supreme Muslim Council, addressed the fact that the multiplying dangers are occurring parallel to the Judaization of the holy places in Jerusalem, as the Arab countries are busy with their internal conflicts. He noted that the occupation has targeted these holy places because they link the world’s Muslims and Christians to the land of Palestine. In addition, he emphasized that history bears witness to the fact that there are no historic Jewish landmarks [in Palestine], and that they [Israel] invent and falsify history through the construction of synagogues.”

The Mufti of Jerusalem and the Palestinian territories, Sheikh Muhammad Hussein, emphasized during the Friday sermon that the Al-Aqsa Mosque is for Muslims alone, and condemned the policies of targeting the Mosque that are being implemented by the occupation authorities and the extremist Jewish groups. In addition, he urged the citizens to visit it [the Mosque] more often and to do more to protect it, and held the occupation authorities responsible for the consequences of their policy against the Al-Aqsa Mosque.”

PA daily: Israelis “have no historic connection to this land”
Source: Official PA daily, Al-Hayat Al-Jadida, Nov. 27, 2014
“The Jewish State did not actually exist in the long historic sense as the Kingdom of Judah, the location of which I do not know; and if it did exist, it was [only] for a limited period. The Jewish Khazars had a state, which was the accidental result of the encounter between two cultures – Byzantine Christianity and the Islamic Abbasids. After a consultation between their elders, the Khazar tribes decided to adopt a different religion, in order to be able to live peacefully with their Muslim and Christian neighbors – for had they adopted Islam, this would have meant war with Christianity, while had they converted to Christianity, it would have spelt war with Islam. Thus, the Khazar state was created out of a conflict between two religions, and it quickly collapsed, while the Khazar Jews scattered throughout Central Asia. The majority of the Jews of Israel are their descendants, and they have no historic connection to this land [Palestine/Israel].”
PA Jerusalem Council: "The Jews have no right to even a single grain of earth at the Al-Aqsa Mosque (i.e., Temple Mount)"
Source: WAFA, official PA news agency, Nov. 26, 2014
“The Supreme Muslim Council and the [PA’s] Islamic-Christian Council for Jerusalem and the Holy Places stressed their firm opposition to the occupation’s proposed law, which prohibits Ribat (religious conflict/war over land claimed to be Islamic) at the Al-Aqsa Mosque... In addition, the statement noted that ‘the occupation has placed signs on the outer gates of the Al-Aqsa Mosque, bearing foreign Hebrew names and terms, which have nothing to do with the Al-Aqsa Mosque.’ The statement emphasized the ‘rejection of the Hebrew names and terms that are foreign to the gates of the Al-Aqsa Mosque – foreign Judaizing names that distort the eternal truth, according to which this place is sacred to Muslims alone, and we will not accept or recognize them!’ The statement called for the removal of the signs the occupation placed on the outer gates... In addition, [the Councils] emphasized that ‘the Jews have no right to even a single grain of earth at the Al-Aqsa Mosque,’ and that ‘the occupation authorities are attempting to falsify and distort the facts regarding the Al-Aqsa Mosque.’"

Note: “Murabitin” law – In November 2014, Israel’s Public Security Ministry and defense establishment promoted a bill to declare illegal the organization of Palestinian guards stationed on the Temple Mount to prevent Jews from entering the Al-Aqsa Mosque compound. These guards, known in Arabic as Murabitin (those carrying out Ribat, religious conflict/war to protect land claimed to be Islamic), have repeatedly clashed with Israeli police and Jewish worshippers in recent years.

Jewish Temple never existed and Jews never had any connection with the land of Israel
Source: Official PA daily, Al-Hayat Al-Jadida, Nov. 24, 2014
Op-ed by Fatah Revolutionary Council member Bakr Abu Bakr, regular columnist for official PA dail
“If we as Palestinians, Arab and Muslims, do not disown the historic myths [prevalent] among us that is, the false Biblical stories about Jerusalem – what they call the ‘People of Israel,’ the house of worship or the Temple, and about their [past] presence on our Arab land in Palestine – then what can we expect the result to be? The myths about the redeeming prophet (and there is no prophet after Muhammad, peace be upon Him) [all parenthesis in source] will naturally prevail, as will the myths that the Israelis (the Jews living in the State of ‘Israel’ today, whose origins can be traced to the Khazars, Russians, Ukrainians and Europeans, and who borrowed their name from an extinct Yemenite tribe) have a ‘country’ and that they were a ‘nation,’ and that the Temple – which actually never existed anywhere in the area – was situated at the site of Al-Aqsa, surrounding it or at a distance of 20 to 200 kilometers from it.
The political, diplomatic, legal, or even the military struggle or the [struggle] on the ground, are not sufficient to refute the narrative that has been perfectly constructed since the 19th century by imperialism and its ambitions, in cooperation with the Zionist mentality of darkness, extremism and racism… and we are the first to have been convinced by them, while we merely argue over tiny details! For example: ‘Yes, they have been here (in Palestine) – but not for long’ or ‘Yes, they had princedoms or kingdoms, but not like these!’ And the evident truth now is that they were never here, and that even those who are here now, who are different, and the ancient ones, whose stories are documented in books, were never [present] in this Arab and Islamic land.”
PA daily op-ed: “Palestine was never… the setting for any Temple or the other Biblical myths”
Source: Official PA daily, Al-Hayat Al-Jadida, Nov. 23, 2014
Op-ed by Fatah Revolutionary Council member Bakr Abu Bakr, regular columnist for the official PA daily:
“Should we strive for the militant way of thinking, according to which we cannot relinquish even a single grain of [our] demands or of Palestinian land, on which no non-Arab race has ever tread without being driven out? Palestine was never the cradle of any of the prophets of Israel (the extinct Yemenite Arab tribe, to which the Jews living in Palestine today bear no relation) [parenthesis in source], nor did it ever serve as the setting for any temple or the other Biblical myths. How will we correct history and turn it [Palestine] into clear fact? Will we bear on our shoulders today the trust of the Arab, Islamic and Christian [character] of Palestine through the power of thought, history, facts and the true scientific narrative versus the false Israeli narrative, which is full of fairy tales? ... We are at the beginning of the path started by the founder of the Palestinian state in the 18th century, Daher Al-Omar Al-Zaidani, followed by Yasser Arafat, and the Arab Canaanites and purely Arab and Islamic history that preceded them.”

Note: Daher Al-Omar Al-Zaidani, an Arab native of Ottoman-controlled Galilee, was the independent ruler of Northern Palestine in the mid-18th century. Al-Omar founded the modern city of Haifa and fortified numerous cities, creating – with foreign assistance – an autonomous territory that was legitimized by the Ottoman authorities, who awarded him the title of “Sheikh of the Galilee”. Remembered for his relatively enlightened economic policies and tolerance toward Jews and Christians, Al-Omar is often cited as a pioneer of Arab liberation from foreign occupation and – by some contemporary authors – as a forerunner of Palestinian nationalism.
Abbas’ advisor: Jewish Jerusalem is a “fairy tale”
Source: WAFA news agency, Nov. 23, 2014
“Mahmoud Al-Habbash, the Supreme Shari’ah Judge and Mahmoud Abbas’ Advisor on Religious and Islamic Affairs, said that Arabs and Muslims around the globe, especially those with foreign citizenship, must go to the Al-Aqsa Mosque and come together to Jerusalem to support the resolve of its residents. During a political forum held at the embassy of the State of Palestine in Algeria, Al-Habbash said: ‘Our people is now in the last stage of a war of existence and self-coercion against the occupation, which is seeking in any way possible to eradicate our identity, force a Caesarian birth of a Jewish entity and clone an illegal entity at our expense.’… In addition, he emphasized that the occupation – which thinks it has succeeded in winning the geographic war with [its] racist fences and roadblocks and that it will have the last word in the fairy tale of Jewish Jerusalem by taking over the Al-Aqsa Mosque – must be opposed.”
