Jerusalem under assault
Denial of Jewish connection to Jerusalem
Jerusalem under assault
In 2009 the Palestinian Authority has initiated an unprecedented campaign of historical revision and anti-Israel libels concerning Jerusalem, the focal point being the erasure and denial of 3,000 years of Jewish history in Jerusalem.

In addition, the PA disseminates the libel that Israel is acting both to expel Arabs from Jerusalem and to destroy the Al-Aqsa Mosque. The Jerusalem libels are designed to evoke religious hatred by portraying Israel and the Jews as a threat to Arabs and Islam.

This section documents the recent intensification of the Palestinian Authority's campaign of distortion, historical revision and hate incitement surrounding Jerusalem.

This cartoon with the caption "Judaization of Jerusalem" shows, from right to left, a sinister-looking Jew first sharing the chair with an Arab and then shoving him off.

Denial of Jewish connection to Jerusalem
"Jerusalem is the religious, political and spiritual capital of Palestine - the Jews have no right to it," declared senior PA religious official, Dr. Tayseer Al-Tamimi, PA Chief Justice of religious court. Accordingly, any Jewish life and development in Jerusalem is labeled as "Judaization." Jerusalem is presented as an exclusively Muslim and Christian city, with no regard to history or archeology, and even the existence of the Temple being denied.
Abbas' advisor: Western Wall "is ours and will remain ours"
Source: Official Palestinian Authority TV, Nov. 7, 2014

Abbas' advisor on Religious and Islamic Affairs, Mahmoud Al-Habbash:
"All of the Al-Aqsa Mosque, including its plazas, stone benches, prayer niches and walls, including the Al-Buraq Wall (i.e., the Western Wall of the Temple Mount), including the blessed Al-Buraq Wall - all these are waqf to us (i.e., an inalienable religious endowment in Islamic law). All this is waqf and kharaj land (i.e., land belonging to Muslims) and no one is permitted to sell it or negotiate over it or forfeit it. It is ours and will remain ours. The occupation is the one that will leave."

Note: Islam's Prophet Muhammad is said to have rode during his Night Journey from Mecca to "al aqsa mosque", i.e., "the farthest mosque" (Quran, Sura 17), and there tied his miraculous flying steed named Al-Buraq to a "stone" or a "rock." (Jami` at-Tirmidhi, Book 47, Hadith 3424). In the 1920's, Arab Mufti Haj Amin Al-Husseini decided to identify the Western Wall of the Temple in Jerusalem as that "rock" or "stone," and since then Muslims refer to the Western Wall as the "Al-Buraq Wall."

Note: This statement was made during a period of high tension in Jerusalem. On Oct. 22 and Nov. 5, 2014, two separate terror attacks took place in which ‎Palestinians ‎drove their cars into pedestrians in Jerusalem, killing 4 and injuring dozens. In addition, on Oct. 29, 2014, Islamic Jihad member Mutaz Hijazi attempted to assassinate Rabbi Yehuda Glick, a prominent activist working to assure rights for Jews to visit and pray on the Temple Mount.
Abbas: Israel’s claim to the Temple ‎Mount is “empty and false… a ‎falsification of the history we all know”‎
Source: Official Palestinian Authority TV, Oct. 8, 2014
Official PA TV broadcast PA Chairman ‎Mahmoud Abbas’ speech on Israeli ‎aggression on the Temple Mount:‎
“Every ‎day, we find these [settlers and extremists] ‎trying to enter the [Al-Aqsa] Mosque by ‎any means, in order to establish facts on ‎the ground as they wish. The fact Israel is ‎trying to establish on the ground is the ‎division of the Al-Aqsa Mosque according ‎to time and place, with the empty excuse ‎that it [Israel] has a claim to it. These are ‎empty and false claims, and a falsification ‎of the history we all know.”‎

Note: The physical division and division ‎according to time refers to a proposed law ‎‎(May 2013) being reviewed in Israeli ‎Parliament that would allow for both Jews ‎and Muslims to pray on the Temple Mount. ‎The law seeks to implement separate ‎prayer times for Muslims and Jews at the ‎site.‎
PA TV complains that Jews use the ‎term “Temple Mount”‎

Official PA TV News report on the ‎Judaization of Jerusalem:
Official PA TV reporter: “The Jews even ‎call the blessed Al-Aqsa Mosque the ‎‎‘Temple Mount,’ and therefore, their ‎almost daily invasions – which increase ‎on the Jewish holidays, like now – and ‎their attempts to hold religious ceremonies ‎in it, cannot be distinguished from what is ‎‎[being perpetrated] against the entire city.”‎

Note: The PA considers any presence of ‎Jews on the Temple Mount an "invasion." ‎However, all visitors are subject to rigorous ‎checks by Israeli security personnel before ‎being granted access to the Temple ‎Mount.‎
PA Minister: Israel distorts history by giving “a Jewish character” to Jerusalem
Source: Official PA daily, Al-Hayat Al-Jadida, Sept. 23, 2014
“Minister of Jerusalem Affairs and District Governor Adnan Husseini… explained during his meeting with Jorge Lobo, the Portuguese representative in Palestine, on Tuesday [July 22, 2014] at his office in the neighborhood of Al-Barid, that Israel considers itself above the law… He noted that the occupation authorities are pushing the region into an abyss, by coarsely desecrating the sites holy to Islam and Christianity, especially the Al-Aqsa Mosque – completely ignoring the significance of this holy site for over a billion Muslims. Israel uses falsification and fabrication to distort historic and religious facts, with the aim of realizing its false claims regarding the application of a Jewish character [to Jerusalem] and the construction of the alleged Temple over the ruins of the Al-Aqsa Mosque.”
PA daily denies Jewish history in ‎Jerusalem, referring to “the myth and ‎tale of the alleged Temple”‎

‎“The settlers renewed their invasions of ‎the Al-Aqsa Mosque through the ‎Mughrabi Gate yesterday [Sept. 21, 2014] ‎in occupied Jerusalem… Witnesses said ‎that the invasions were carried out in ‎small, consecutive groups, each led by ‎one of the extremist leaders or a rabbi, ‎who present Talmudic stories about the ‎myth and tale of the alleged Temple.”‎

Note: The PA considers any presence of ‎Jews on the Temple Mount an “invasion.” ‎However, all visitors are subject to rigorous ‎checks by Israeli security personnel ‎before being granted access to the Temple ‎Mount.‎
Abbas advisor: Temple Mount belongs exclusively to Palestinians
Source: Official PA daily, Al-Hayat Al-Jadida, Aug. 18, 2014
‎     “The [PA’s] Supreme Shari’a Judge and ‎Advisor to President [Mahmoud Abbas] on ‎Religious and Islamic Affairs, Mahmoud ‎Al-Habbash, called on the Arab and ‎Islamic governments and nations to work ‎seriously to save the Al-Aqsa Mosque ‎from the schemes of Judaization and the ‎division being planned by the occupation ‎authorities, [which are] similar to what ‎happened at the Ibrahimi Mosque (i.e., ‎The Tomb of the patriarchs in Hebron). [Al-‎Habbash’s statement came] in view of the ‎rise in the number of cases of desecration ‎of Al-Aqsa by the settlers, and in light of ‎the fact that the occupation authorities ‎have closed its doors to Muslims, with the ‎aim of allowing the settlers to invade it. Al-‎Habbash emphasized that the actions of ‎extremist settlers, Israeli MPs and senior ‎Israeli officials, such as the terrorist [Israeli ‎MP] Moshe Feiglin are doing, will not give ‎any right whatsoever to the Al-Aqsa ‎Mosque to non-Muslims, and this could ‎trigger a religious war that would destroy ‎everything. He also emphasized that ‎those who are not Palestinian have no ‎sovereignty over Al-Aqsa, or over any of ‎the Islamic and Christian religious sites, ‎and the right to them belongs exclusively ‎to the Arabs and Muslims... Al-‎Habbash called on the residents of ‎Jerusalem, the Palestinian territories ‎occupied in 1948 (i.e., Israel) and on ‎anyone capable [of doing so] to go to the ‎Al-Aqsa Mosque to defend it, pray in it and ‎perform Ribat (i.e. religious conflict/war to ‎defend Islamic lands and property) in its ‎plazas, in order to thwart the Zionist plan ‎to divide it.”‎

Abbas: Jewish prayer on the Temple Mount is ‎"a red line" that "we cannot possibly ‎accept"‎
Source: Official PA daily, Al-Hayat Al-Jadida, Aug. 17, 2014
‎“President Mahmoud Abbas said Israeli ‎efforts were being made to implement a ‎division according to time [of prayer for ‎Jews and Muslims] in the Noble ‎Sanctuary (i.e., the Temple Mount) of ‎Jerusalem. He emphasized that this was ‎‎‘a red line’ that ‘we cannot possibly ‎accept’.’‎
The President said at the opening of the ‎leadership’s meeting last night [Aug. 16, ‎‎2014] at the Presidential residence in ‎Ramallah: ‘We are telling Israel and the ‎world that the Israeli efforts to implement a ‎division according to time in the Noble ‎Sanctuary of Jerusalem are a red line, and ‎we cannot possibly accept this in any way. ‎We will not accept that Jerusalem remain ‎occupied.’”‎

PA Mufti praises "the glorious Al-Aqsa Mosque Intifada‎," threatens violence if Jews try to pray at site of "alleged Temple"
Source: Official Palestinian Authority TV, Aug. 13, 2014
Official PA TV News interviewed the PA ‎Mufti of Jerusalem, Sheikh Muhammad ‎Hussein, following a news report stating ‎that Muslims would only be allowed into ‎the Al-Aqsa Mosque on Fridays and ‎Saturdays. The report claimed that this ‎decision was part of an unofficial division ‎of prayer times for Jews and Muslims on ‎the Temple Mount as part of a plan to ‎divide the mosque between Jews and ‎Muslims.‎
PA Mufti of Jerusalem, Sheikh ‎Muhammad Hussein: “I wish to remind ‎‎[any] intelligent person – if there is ‎anyone intelligent in the Israeli ‎government – that [former Israeli Prime ‎Minister Ariel] Sharon’s entering the Al-‎Aqsa Mosque in 2000 triggered the ‎eruption of the glorious Al-Aqsa Mosque ‎Intifada (i.e., PA terror campaign 2000-‎‎2005). Then, the Palestinian people did ‎not remain silent in view of the ‎desecration of the Al-Aqsa Mosque, and ‎the Palestinian people will not remain ‎silent, under any circumstances, in view ‎of the division of the Al-Aqsa Mosque, ‎whether according to time or to place. This ‎nation will not suffer for long the dreams, ‎illusions and tales of those in whose ‎minds the alleged Temple lurks – [the ‎Temple which they claim stood] where the ‎Al-Aqsa Mosque stands.”‎

Note:‎ The division according to time or place ‎refers to a proposed law (May 2013) being ‎reviewed in Israeli Parliament that would ‎allow for both Jews and Muslims to pray on ‎the Temple Mount. The law seeks to ‎implement separate prayer times for ‎Muslims and Jews at the site.‎

Sheikh: "The stones of Jerusalem say to it [Israel], 'You are a foreigner'"
Source: Official PA daily, Al-Hayat Al-Jadida, June 7, 2014
‎“The Supreme Muslim Council organized ‎a [protest] vigil and sit-down strike on the ‎‎47th anniversary of the Naksa (i.e., ‘the ‎setback,’ Palestinian term for Israel's ‎victory in the Six Day War) and in support ‎of the Al-Aqsa Mosque on the steps of the ‎Damascus Gate, one of the most famous ‎gates of the Old City…‎
The Mufti of Jerusalem and Palestine, ‎Sheikh Muhammad Hussein, warned of ‎the occupation’s intensifying Judaization ‎projects in Jerusalem. He continued: ‘The ‎oppressive occupation is trying to Judaize ‎the people and the stones, and to ‎obliterate the city’s Islamic and Arab ‎landmarks. But Jerusalem will remain the ‎heart and eternal capital of Palestine.’ ‎
Fatah Revolutionary Council member ‎Hatem Abd Al-Qader said: ‘On this ‎anniversary and this [protest] vigil, we ‎recite the Al-Fatiha Sura (opening Sura of ‎the Quran) over the souls of the Martyrs ‎‎(Shahids), salute the prisoners, and ‎emphasize that the occupation does not ‎scare us and will not alter our will despite ‎all its actions.’ He continued: ‘Jerusalem ‎will remain Islamic, Arab, Palestinian, and ‎the occupation is ephemeral, as were all ‎those who were foreign to it [Jerusalem]...’ ‎
Deputy Head of the Islamic Movement in ‎the 1948 territories (i.e., Israel) Sheikh ‎Kamal Khatib: ‘… 47 years have passed ‎since the occupation of Jerusalem; ‎despite this, the people of Jerusalem say ‎to the occupation: “You are a foreigner;” ‎the stones of Jerusalem say to it: “You are ‎a foreigner;" and the land and skies of ‎Jerusalem say: “The occupation is foreign, ‎and it will leave, just as all the previous ‎occupations left.”’”‎
Abbas rep: Palestinian presence in Jerusalem is 5000 years old, Israel threatens the city's Islamic-Christian identity
Source: Official PA daily, Al-Hayat Al-Jadida, May 13, 2014
“The talks at the International Conference for the Support of Jerusalem, organized by the UN, the Organization for Islamic Cooperation and the Turkish Foreign Ministry, began in the Turkish capital, Ankara, yesterday [May 12, 2014], with the participation of PA Chairman Mahmoud Abbas’ representative, [PA] Minister of Religious Affairs Mahmoud Al-Habbash…
In the speech [given in the name] of the President [Abbas], Al-Habbash asserted that Palestinian presence in Jerusalem dates back over 5,000 years, and that the Palestinians are the only permanent element in Jerusalem, while the others came and went. Al-Habbash described the grave dangers threatening Jerusalem under the Israeli occupation – despite the fact that nobody in the world recognizes Israel’s sovereignty over it. He called on all powers, parties and governments to cooperate in defending Jerusalem and protecting its Islamic-Christian identity.”

PA Minister of Religious Affairs demands all of Jerusalem for Palestinians, "Or there will be no peace"
Source: Official Palestinian Authority TV, May 2, 2014
Official PA TV broadcast the Friday sermon from the Al-Tashrifat Mosque in the presidential compound in Ramallah. The sermon was delivered by PA Minister of Religious Affairs Mahmoud Al-Habbash. The audience included PA Chairman Mahmoud Abbas and PA Finance Minister Jawad Naji.
PA Minister of Religious Affairs Mahmoud Al-Habbash: “Our rights are non-negotiable and we state them clearly. We want a real state with clear borders, with Jerusalem as its capital – and hear [me] well: Jerusalem as its capital, not with its capital in Jerusalem; its capital is the whole of Jerusalem, all of Jerusalem – who ever wishes [otherwise], let them wish [otherwise] and whoever opposes, let them oppose, in spite of them. Jerusalem will be nothing other than ours, or there will be no peace…
Forming one government for one people, one authority, one state, with one leadership and one weapon; with one decision that will lead, in a few months’ time, to free elections, in which the Palestinian people will state its will…
[The new unity government] will concentrate the administrative decisions (i.e., all internal affairs) of the Palestinian government and the Palestinian people under one umbrella, one authority, one weapon and one security [establishment], which will protect the rights of the Palestinian people and the dignity of the Palestinian person.”
PA spokesman: Israel creates "visual pollution" in "creating a history of Israel and the Jews in Jerusalem which is nonexistent"
Source: Official Palestinian Authority TV, Apr. 23, 2014
Official PA TV News reported on the visit of Adnan Al-Damiri, official spokesman of the PA Security Forces and Commissioner General of the political leadership, to Jerusalem.
Adnan Al-Damiri, official spokesman of the PA Security Forces and Commissioner General of the political leadership: “In addition to the environmental pollution caused by the waste that the settlements and their criminals produce and dump on the Palestinians, the occupation is now trying to create visual pollution for the world, by polluting Jerusalem’s landscape through the new inventions it is trying to devise, with the aim of creating a history of Israel and the Jews in Jerusalem which is nonexistent, despite all the excavations.”
PA daily: "Temple Mount is another biblical myth"
Source: Al-Hayat (London), Apr. 20, 2014
Op-ed by Jihad Al-Khazen in the official PA daily, re-printed from the London-based Al-Hayat:
"The news [reported] that Israel's Foreign Minister, Avigdor Liberman, said he had held talks with Saudia Arabia and Kuwait, and that Israel can establish diplomatic relations with the Gulf states, since they share Israel's fear of Iran...
Liar, son of a liar, from a terrorist Khazar dynasty, immigrant thug from Moldova, with no right to be in occupied Palestine. The other war criminal, Benjamin Netanyahu, had already alluded to dialogue and relations with the Gulf states against Iran. The Gulf states undoubtedly have reason to be concerned about Iran's Persian aspirations, but they won't deal with them through cooperation with an occupying terrorist state founded on biblical myths...
The Temple Mount is another biblical myth and is not beneath the Noble Sanctuary (Islamic name for the Temple Mount), or above it, or anywhere else. That is a fact, not an opinion, since Yitzhak Rabin, during his first government in the 1980’s, excavated beneath the “Noble Sanctuary” and found the remains of an Umayyad [Islamic] palace, which he tried to restore, but the religious parties resisted him. They told him: ‘[You are] adding sin to crime,’ a phrase… meaning, in this context, that not only did he not find remains of the Temple Mount, but wanted to restore an Umayyad Temple instead.”

PA minister denies Jewish history and complains of “Judaization” of Jerusalem
Source: Official PA daily, Al-Hayat Al-Jadida, Mar. 7, 2014
“[PA] Minister of Religious Affairs Mahmoud Al-Habbash emphasized that the continuing settlement and Judaization of the holy city [Jerusalem], the attacks on its holy sites, the escalating Israeli aggression against Jerusalem, the falsifying of its history with the aim of erasing its cultural, human and historical heritage, and the demographic and geographic changes in the city are all moves that are null and void according to international law, the decisions of the international institutions, and the Geneva and Hague Conventions for the Protection of Cultural Property.
In addition, he warned again of the danger of the racist Israeli violations being planned against [the] Al-Aqsa [Mosque], the Ibrahimi Mosque (Cave of the Patriarchs), and the rest of our people’s holy sites, all of which confirm that Israel’s aim is to tighten its control over [the] Al-Aqsa [Mosque], in preparation for destroying it and building their alleged Temple.”

PA minister accuses Israel of goal to rule over Al-Aqsa; refuses to recognize Israel's "existence in Jerusalem"
Source: Official Palestinian Authority TV, Feb. 28, 2014
Official PA TV broadcast the Friday sermon from the Al-Tashrifat Mosque in the presidential compound. The sermon was delivered by PA Minister of Religious Affairs Mahmoud Al-Habbash.
PA Minister of Religious Affairs Mahmoud Al-Habbash: “In the occupation state (i.e., Israel), they are talking about a tale, about a lie and [the] insane [idea] of extending Israeli sovereignty to the Al-Aqsa Mosque. What sovereignty is this? Whoever told you we even recognize your existence in Jerusalem? Whoever said we recognize your right to even a single millimeter of the land of Jerusalem? Who said this? You even talk about [having] sovereignty over our hearts, over our faith, over our religion. Who said this? Who can imagine such insanity? This insanity will not end well. It will not end well; it will not lead to anything good. They must understand that the Al-Aqsa Mosque is not a red line. The Al-Aqsa Mosque is a line of fire that will burn any hand that may be extended towards it to harm it.”
PLO Executive Committee member mocks Jewish tours that teach about the "alleged Temple"
Source: Official PA daily, Al-Hayat Al-Jadida, Feb. 27, 2014
“Ahmed Qurei, ‘Abu Alaa’, PLO Executive Committee member and Head of the Department for Jerusalem Affairs… said that Jerusalem is in a very difficult situation, which manifests itself in [the fact] that the occupation government has intensified its racist Judaization measures against the Al-Aqsa Mosque and increased the settlers’ invasions of its plazas, as well as the discovery and instruction tours they conduct inside it, during which they give lessons on the ‘alleged Temple’…
In addition, the head of the Department for Jerusalem Affairs rejected the criminal actions being perpetrated by the Israeli occupation authorities, which contradict all norms and international conventions: the ongoing excavations beneath the foundations of the Al-Aqsa Mosque. He emphasized that these excavations, deep underground, which target the foundations of the Al-Aqsa Mosque, have been going on non-stop for years, to the point that a gigantic synagogue has been built beneath the Mosque.”
Op-ed in PA daily: Jews were never present in Israel, such claims are nothing more than “fairy tales”
Source: Official PA daily, Al-Hayat Al-Jadida, Feb. 27, 2014
Op-ed by Adli Sadeq, PLO Ambassador to India and regular columnist for official PA daily
“These days, the occupiers have reached the height of their rampage in their parliament, which is populated by a handful of crazy people reinforced by fairy tales and bundles of dreams, not a single letter of which has been proven true by a single stone of Jerusalem…
Each day, they come out with a new refrain that not [even] the first Zionists before them could have imagined, and pretend that their alleged Temple stood exactly at the site of the Al-Aqsa Mosque…
Recognizing the ‘Jewishness of the State’ is an implicit confirmation that the refugees have no rights, that we stole ourselves a homeland and have not been [living] on our ancestors’ land for thousands of years. If the Jews were indeed present [here] for a short period in the history of our land, that presence was not along the coast, nor in the north or south of Palestine. In other words, the Jews never passed through or were present in the territories which the peace process firmly defines as being outside the negotiations and [designates] as Israeli territory.”
