PA Islamic-Christian Council repeats libel: Israel’s killing of terrorists is “summary executions,” Terrorists carry out “operations”; Jewish visits to Temple Mount are “invasions”

Headline: "15 Martyrs, 2,030 detainees, and 16,000 extremists who invaded the Al-Aqsa Mosque during the past year"

"The [PA] Islamic-Christian Council for Jerusalem and the Holy Places yesterday [Jan. 3, 2017] published its annual report on the Israeli violations against the sites holy to Islam and Christianity in occupied Jerusalem and its suburbs in 2016…

[According to the report], the occupation forces continued to summarily execute [Palestinians] on the pretext of an attempt to carry out a 'stabbing or shooting' operation. The use of weapons for the killing of Palestinians was the first option of the occupation soldiers, and 13 (sic., the headline indicates 15) residents of Jerusalem died in 2016, most of them young men…

During 2016 the occupation authorities continued to desecrate the holy sites in Jerusalem, and especially the blessed Al-Aqsa Mosque; they extended the period of time for invasions in the morning (i.e., the time during which Jews can access the Temple Mount –Ed.), carried out arrests, distanced [Palestinians] from the mosque, broke into the mosque, and attacked the worshippers in order to secure these invasions. Invasions by approximately 16,000 settlers through the Mughrabi Gate were recorded during the year on an almost daily basis. Among the invaders was Rabbi Yehuda Glick, who serves as an Israeli MP from the Likud party."

The PA and its leaders consider all of the Temple Mount an integral part of the Al-Aqsa Mosque. Therefore they view any presence of Jews on the mount as an "invasion." It should be noted that Jews who visit the Temple Mount only enter some sections of the open areas, and do not enter the Al-Aqsa Mosque or the Dome of the Rock.

Rabbi Yehuda Glick is the Chairman of the Temple Mount Heritage Foundation that works to increase awareness of the central place the Temple Mount and the Temple hold in Jewish heritage through educational activities and by encouraging people to visit the Temple Mount. In addition, he is the coordinator of the LIBA initiative - The Jewish Freedom on the Temple Mount initiative whose goal is to obtain freedom and civil rights for Jews on the Temple Mount. On Oct. 29, 2014, Mutaz Hijazi, an Islamic Jihad member and released prisoner, attempted to assassinate Glick, who was seriously wounded in the attack.
