Fatah official: “The Israeli occupation is an enemy of the first order;” calls to “protect the Al-Aqsa Mosque” and to “resist the occupation”

Headline: "Al-Aloul to Sama: Freezing relations with Israel is not related to the metal detectors, but rather to all of the occupation's steps against our people"
"Fatah Movement Deputy Chairman [and Fatah Central Committee member] Mahmoud Al-Aloul said that the Palestinian decision regarding what is happening in Jerusalem is clear, and it is to freeze all relations with the occupation, in all their forms and types.
Al-Aloul said in special statements to the [independent Palestinian news] agency Sama that the important position of the Palestinian leadership comes to change the path of what has been until now, in order to make the Israeli occupation retract its steps. He also said that what appeared in [PA] President Mahmoud Abbas' speech yesterday [July 21, 2017], when he spoke about freezing relations with Israel, was not only about the removal of the metal detectors (refers to metal detectors placed at the entrances to the Temple Mount following a terror attack there on July 14, 2017, in which 2 Israelis were murdered; see note below –Ed.), but rather about all of the Israeli steps against the Palestinian people… The Fatah deputy chairman added that the Israeli occupation is an enemy of the first order, and it must not exploit the freezing of Palestinian relations with it in order to punish the Palestinian leadership… Al-Aloul directed a message to the Palestinian people and said: 'Let us all unite around a unified position against the occupation, and we must understand that our basic argument is with the Israeli occupation alone. We must join together to protect our land, our Al-Aqsa Mosque, and our Palestinian people. We hope that the Hamas Movement will respond to the repeated call of the president to end the [Fatah-Hamas] rift, because this moment is a dangerous moment and the moment of truth… Al-Aloul called to resist the occupation, as it is not possible to reach any understandings with it in light of the unfair and ongoing Israeli actions against the members of the Palestinian people. The Fatah Central Committee is the one that led the events yesterday in the West Bank, and it is forbidden to submit to the policy of creating facts on the ground that Israel is imposing on us."
