PA government condemns “invasions” of the Al-Aqsa Mosque, calls for Palestinians to carry out Ribat there
“The [PA] government warned against the consequences of the calls being made by the extremist Jewish organizations to carry out widespread invasions of the Al-Aqsa Mosque plazas on the eve of the 'Hebrew Passover' holiday, by participating in events of making the Passover sacrifices in the area of the Umayyad palaces, south of the mosque (see note below –Ed.).
The government condemned the Israeli policy of incitement that calls on the settlers and extremists to carry out widespread and unprecedented invasions, while imposing racist restrictions against the [Arab] worshippers and those carrying out Ribat (i.e., religious conflict/war over land claimed to be Islamic) from among the women and men, and preventing them from reaching the Al-Aqsa Mosque and praying there. The government called on the members of our people and everyone able to do so to come to the Al-Aqsa Mosque, to pray there, to carry out Ribat at its plazas, and to stand against the settlers' invasions.”
Preceding the Passover holiday in April 2017, the Temple Mount Institute petitioned the Israeli High Court of Justice to practice the Passover sacrifices at the Davidson Center just south of the Temple Mount, but the petition was rejected by the court.
The PA and its leaders consider all of the Temple Mount an integral part of the Al-Aqsa Mosque. Therefore they view any presence of Jews on the mount as an “invasion.” It should be noted that Jews who visit the Temple Mount only enter some sections of the open areas, and do not enter the Al-Aqsa Mosque or the Dome of the Rock.
