Mahmoud Abbas: Israel's right to exist is a "lie"
Source: Official PA radio station The Voice of Palestine, May 15, 2017

PA Chairman Mahmoud Abbas:
"Ninety-nine years have passed since the ominous Balfour Promise (i.e., Declaration). The unfair [promise]. However, we will not turn the lie (i.e., Israel being the ancient Jewish homeland) into an accepted truth. Our people’s right to its homeland is permanent and authentic. It does not expire, not even if historical facts are falsified. Palestine will remain despite the Nakba (i.e., “the catastrophe,” establishment of the State of Israel in 1948), the Naksa (i.e., "the setback," Israel's victory in the Six Day War in 1967), and the suffering which has continued for decades. We will never raise the white flag. [Our flag] will continue to be composed of the four colors."

The rest of Abbas' speech (not broadcast on PA radio) criticizing Britain for issuing the Balfour Declaration: “You gave what is not yours to one who has no right”

Abbas
: "We say to those who gave this promise: ‘‘You [Britain] gave what is not yours to one [the Jewish people] who has no right to it.’’ Many have wondered: Why are we talking about it now? We said that the right does not expire, that the right does not age. Even after 100, 200, 1,000 [years], the right will remain alive. It will remain our obligation to defend our right. Balfour, who gave you the right to sell our land? And to tell people [the Jews]: ‘‘This is a homeland for you [the Jews].’’? ... Give them [a state] in Britain, man, in Scotland, or at least in Ireland. Why in Palestine? He gave [Jews land] in Palestine and that became their right. No! Britain must first acknowledge that it made a mistake regarding our right.
Abbas plans to "put Britain on trial for the Balfour Promise"
Source: Wattan (independent Palestinian news agency)‎, Apr. 26, 2017
Headline: “Britain refuses to apologize for the Balfour Promise, and the [PA] president will put it on trial”
“Britain has refused to submit an apology for the Balfour Promise (i.e., Declaration) that was issued in 1917 and paved the way for the establishment of the State of Israel.
[PA] President Mahmoud Abbas demanded that Britain officially apologize to the Palestinian people for this promise in a speech that he gave before the UN General Assembly in September [2016], but Britain is intending to hold celebrations together with senior Israeli officials for the 100th anniversary of the Balfour Promise on Nov. 2 [2017].
Palestinian Ambassador to Britain Manuel Hassassian told [the official PA] radio [station] The Voice of Palestine that… ‘Steps will be taken to put Britain on trial for the Balfour Promise, and there are lawyers working on the matter in Britain. The position of the president is clear, and he will not retreat from it until Britain apologizes to the Palestinian people and recognizes the State of Palestine.’”

The Balfour Declaration of Nov. 2, 1917 was a letter from British Foreign Secretary Arthur Balfour to Baron Rothschild stating that “His Majesty's government views with favour the establishment in Palestine of a national home for the Jewish people” and is seen as the basis for later international commitments to establish the State of Israel.

Headline: “Abbas in an interview with Al-Quds Al-Arabi: … We will turn to the international forums if Britain insists on marking the anniversary of the Balfour Promise and will not apologize”
Excerpt of an interview with PA Chairman Mahmoud Abbas by the London newspaper Al-Quds Al-Arabi

[Q:] “As we near the 100th anniversary of the Balfour Promise (i.e., Declaration) that promised the Jews a national home in Palestine (on Nov. 2, 1917), [and as] preparations [are being made] to mark this anniversary, which British Prime Minister Theresa May has invited Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to participate in – are there Palestinian steps that are more than just calls on London to apologize for this historic mistake against the Palestinian truth? And what Palestinian moves will there be if Britain ignores the Palestinian calls?”

[PA President Mahmoud Abbas:] “We began to demand that Britain apologize to the Palestinian people at [our] speeches of the last UN General Assembly session in September 2016, and also at the Arab Summit in Mauritania. We demanded and still demand that Britain not celebrate this event, which was catastrophic from the Palestinian people’s perspective. In addition, it must apologize for this historic mistake that it committed against us, and it must recognize the State of Palestine…”

[Q:] “And if Britain does not respond to the Palestinian demands on the matter? Are there other steps, for example turning to the International Criminal Court and other international organizations?”

[Mahmoud Abbas:] “I have said that we will turn to all of the local and international forums and talk to them..."

Abbas claims Palestinians have been under occupation for "70 years"

[Q:] "We will begin with the main event, and that is the phone conversation that American President Donald Trump had with you, and your important meeting with his Special Representative for International Negotiations Jason Greenblatt. What was said in your first conversation with the US president, and did his conversation constitute a plan to eliminate the Palestinian cause, and not to resolve it?"
[PA Chairman Mahmoud Abbas:] "This was the first time I spoke with Trump... I told him that we hope that he will find a solution to the Palestinian issue after 70 years of occupation that will be based on two states..."

Abbas to French Senate: Britain must apologize for the Balfour Declaration, accepts Israel's right to exist
Source: Official Palestinian Authority TV, Feb. 8, 2017
Official PA TV, excerpt from PA Chairman Mahmoud Abbas’ speech to the French Senate on Feb. 8, 2017

PA Chairman Mahmoud Abbas: "Yesterday [Feb. 7, 2017] the British government announced that it invited Israeli Prime Minister [Benjamin Netanyahu] to attend the ceremonies to mark the 100th anniversary of the issuing of the Balfour Promise (i.e., Declaration) in 1917. This is a matter that surprises us and which we condemn. We demand that the British government apologize to the Palestinian people for the destruction and expulsion that were carried out against our people... The government of Britain did not have a connection to the Middle East and Palestine in 1917. It said ‘we will give Palestine to the Jews as a national homeland.’ Now it [Britain] comes and holds a ceremony in honor of this. We say that such a decision gives to one who has no right, from one who is not the owner. However, the State of Israel exists. We cannot deny this, it exists! It does! However, the government of Britain, which sinned against our right and wrote in the Balfour Promise [interrupts himself] - it completely denied us in the Balfour Promise and did not mention us at all – it was expected that it would apologize, no less and no more."

Abbas threatens to cancel recognition of Israel if US embassy is transferred to Jerusalem
Source: Official PA daily, Al-Hayat Al-Jadida, Jan. 15, 2017
Headline: “The [PA] president [Abbas] calls on participants in the Paris Conference to take tangible steps to implement the international decisions – transferring the American embassy will hinder the peace process, and canceling our recognition of Israel will be one of our options”
“[PA] President Mahmoud Abbas yesterday [Jan. 14, 2017] inaugurated the Palestinian embassy at the Vatican. He met with Pope Francis, and again warned against the plan of US President-elect Donald Trump to transfer the American embassy from Tel Aviv to occupied Jerusalem. During the inauguration of the embassy…
President Abbas emphasized that he ‘extends his hand to President-elect Trump for cooperation in order to reach peace on the basis of international law.’ He added that ‘any attempt to give legal validity to the illegal annexation of Jerusalem by Israel will eliminate the prospects of the political process, dispel the hopes of a solution based on two states, and encourage the extremism in our region and in the world.’ … President Abbas said that he wrote to Trump and warned him of the consequences of the transfer of the embassy, and noted that this ‘will not only negate any legitimacy of the US to fill a role in settling the conflict, but will also annihilate the two-state solution.’
He added that the Palestinians will discuss several options for a response, after consultations are held with Arab states, and said: ‘Cancelling our recognition of Israel will be one of them, but we hope that we will not reach that, and that instead we will be able to work with the next American administration.’”

Abu Rudeina added in a press release on the [99th] anniversary of the ominous Balfour Promise [Nov. 2, 2016] that this crime led to tragedies, uprooting, and refugees , whose price has been paid by the Palestinian people and the Arab nation, and [led] to consequences that still have an effect on everyone. Abu Rudeina called on those who issued this ominous promise to reevaluate it and correct the historic mistake, which will remain a mark of shame on the forehead of humanity.”

Abbas: I will never recognize Israel as a Jewish State
Source: Official Palestinian Authority TV, July 27, 2016
Official PA TV aired an interview of PA Chairman Mahmoud Abbas originally broadcast on Sudanese TV during his visit to Sudan in July 2016
PA Chairman Mahmoud Abbas: “It is possible to sit around the negotiation table after we ask them what the meaning of a Jewish state is. I will recognize the State of Israel, I recognize the State of Israel, and that is it. However a Jewish state is not my affair. I will not recognize it at all and I will not accept it. In the past, in 1993, in mutual recognition between the late [Yasser] Arafat and [the late Israeli Prime Minister Yitzhak] Rabin, the one recognized the PLO and the other recognized the State of Israel, finished! When Israel made the peace agreement with Egypt it did not request of [Egypt] to recognize it as a Jewish state. When it made the Arava Agreement with Jordan (i.e., the Jordan peace agreement) it did not ask this of [Jordan]. Why is it asking us to recognize it as a Jewish state? Go to the [UN] General Assembly and change your name. If you wanted to change it, change your name. However, [if] you ask me, I will not accept and it is impossible that I will accept [the demand to recognize Israel as a Jewish state]. Let [Israel] continue to talk about a Jewish state and we will soundly reject it.”
Abbas' advisor: Jews “are thieves who stole the land… we have been here for 5,000 years”
Source: Official Palestinian Authority TV, June 3, 2016

Mahmoud Abbas' advisor on Religious and Islamic Affairs, Mahmoud Al-Habbash: "They [the Jews] claim that there was a Temple here. Those are unfounded claims, myths, and rumors. However, the problem between us and them is not a problem of religious or historical narrative. The problem is that they are thieves. The problem is that they are thieves who stole the land, and who want to steal the history, but history cannot change and cannot be falsified. The facts bear witness to it. We have been here for the last 5,000 years, and have not left this land. We have not left this land. Our forefathers are the monotheist Canaanites and Jebusites. They are the ones who built Jerusalem, before Abraham was even here."

There never was an ancient Palestinian-Arab nation. Arabs first arrived in the land of Israel/Judea with the Muslim invasion in 637 CE. Arabs first identified themselves as "Palestinians" in the 20th century, after the creation of the State of Israel. Claiming a 5,000 year old Palestinian nation is a historical lie.

District Governor of Ramallah and El-Bireh Laila Ghannam said…‘The inauguration of this building that stirs pride shows that Palestine is a state that is only missing being rid of the occupation, which is trying to create history for itself at the expense of our history, but it is our history. We were here and will remain in our land, and the occupation will not last long.’”

PA Chairman Mahmoud Abbas, at a press conference held at the Algerian Ministry of Foreign Affairs:
“Starting three years ago they [Israelis] came to us with a new invention: The Jewish ‎state. The Jewish state. Of course, now there is a Jewish state, an Islamic State, the ‎state of ISIS, and so on. The atmosphere is highly explosive. We said: "We will not ‎recognize Israel as a Jewish state." We recognize Israel, the State of Israel... [In Israel] ‎there are a million and half Arabs and half a million Christian and Muslim Russians... ‎We ask: "What right do [Russians] have to come to Palestine?" […] Naturally, Israel has ‎its objectives with this (i.e., Jewish state demand) - in general - that a million and a half ‎‎[Israeli] Arabs will be scattered all over. ‘‘You are not a Jew, what are you doing here?’’ ‎‎‘‘This is a Jewish state and you are not a Jew.’’ Likewise, they shut the doors on the ‎right of return, but we will not give up the right of return. Abbas refusese to recognize Israel as the Jewish state
Source: Official PA daily, Al-Hayat Al-Jadida, Nov. 30, 2014
PA Chairman Mahmoud Abbas:  "... Netanyahu began saying, ‘You have to recognize the Jewish State.’ We refused, absolutely refused. He directed his demand at us, not any [other country] in the world – in other words, he wanted no recognition from any other country in the world but us. We know why. We know very well why he spoke of a Jewish State. They started speaking about issues that could potentially affect the Arabs of 1948 (i.e., Israeli Arabs). When you say ‘Jewish State,’ they [the Israeli Arabs] are outside of it. This is one of the many reasons [we refused], and therefore, we continue to say: We will recognize the State of Israel. If Israel wants to call itself by a certain name, it should turn to the UN – although we would not agree [to such a move], neither now or in the future, under no circumstances. Now, [regarding] the events in the Palestinian territories, the attack on Al-Aqsa, the attack on the synagogue and then [again] Al-Aqsa. In practice, Israel wants to turn this into a religious war, and we have spoken about this repeatedly, saying: ‘You are giving an excuse to those who speak of an Islamic state – IS and the others.’ All of them give excuses to each other. For us, in the 21st century, this idea is not [relevant] – not an Islamic state, not a Christian state, not a Jewish state. Therefore, [when] you reach this line, you Israelis are leading a religious war which will happen, or is already happening, and will increasingly heat up in the region, in view of your statements and your demand that we recognize a Jewish state. We will not recognize a Jewish state and will not allow any opportunity to be given to [those wishing to] declare an Islamic state in Iraq and Syria..."

Abbas rep claims Palestinians descended from Canaanites who lived 10,000 years ago
Source: Official PA TV Live, Jan. 20, 2014
Official PA TV Live broadcast the first convention of the Palestinian Bar Association Union that discussed “Palestine and International Law.” Fatah Central Committee Member and PA chief negotiator Saeb Erekat represented PA Chairman Mahmoud Abbas. The symbol of the European Union appeared on the banner behind the stage, and an EU representative addressed the gathering.
Fatah Central Committee member Erekat: “Concerning the Israeli side repeatedly saying that Israel is a ‘Jewish state’ – some say they intend to sabotage the refugees’ right to return, by this term. Some say they want to harm the status of Palestinian residents in the ’48 territories (i.e. Israel). You are in the city of Jericho. Our story began in this city 10,000 years ago when the Natufians founded it. The Canaanites were [here] 5,500 years before Joshua burned it down. Whoever asks me to accept Israel as a Jewish state, is asking me to alter my history, to change my religion, to revise my culture. That is not going to happen. He wants us to say it is a Jewish state, meaning that the land belonged to the Jews and that we are strangers to it.”

Note: The Natufian culture was a sedentary, hunter-gatherer, Mesolithic culture that lived in the Levant region of the Near East between about 13,000-9,800 BCE.

“The President of the State of Palestine, Mahmoud Abbas, said yesterday [May 3, 2013] that the American administration is now trying to reach a workable framework to renew negotiations… The President said: ‘If we will be asked to recognize Israel as a Jewish state, we’ll refuse, because we already recognized the State of Israel, but if Israel wants to go to the UN and change its name to whatever it wants, that’s its own business.’”
Abbas sends conflicting messages: All of Israel is "occupied" vs. areas under Israel since 1967 are "occupied"

Two separate Facebook pages in the name of "President Abbas" posted two versions of the same letter written by Abbas. One letter defined all of Israel as "occupied lands," whereas the other letter defined the areas under Israel since 1967 as "occupied":

Mahmoud Abbas' Facebook page #1:

"The [sought UN] recognition will not liberate the land the following day, but will prove that we are right that our land is occupied and not disputed territory, and this applies to all the territories that Israel occupied before June 1967 (i.e., all of Israel)." (emphasis added)

Mahmoud Abbas' Facebook page #2:

"The [sought UN] recognition will not liberate the land the following day, but will prove that we are right that our land is occupied and not disputed territory, and this applies to all the territories that Israel occupied in June 1967." (emphasis added)

Abbas wrote research papers claiming Zionism was a European “imperialist colonialist movement”
Source: Official PA daily, Al-Hayat Al-Jadida, July 27, 2011
“Chairman of the Palestinian Authority Mahmoud Abbas raised this claim in the research papers he wrote, as testified by a professor of political science at Bir Zeit University, Dr. Samih Hamouda:
“Yesterday, the department of political science at Bir Zeit University, in cooperation with the Madar Center for Research, held a symposium… Professor Samih Hamouda, of the political science department at Bir Zeit University, presented an analysis of the research papers written by President Mahmoud Abbas on the subject of Zionist ideology. Prof. Hamouda said that in his writings and research, the President linked Zionism to imperialism by examining the reasons for the growth of Zionism, through scientific analysis of European society and the problem of the Jews in Europe, and linking this with the aspirations of the West in the Arabic East. He added, ‘In the President’s research, the Zionist movement is not Jewish, nor does it flow from the desires of the Jews themselves. Rather, it is an imperialist colonialist movement which sought to use the Jews and to enlist them to further the western colonialist plans.’”
Abbas: Hamas "is not required to recognize Israel"
Source: Official Palestinian Authority TV, July 24, 2011
Interview with Mahmoud Abbas on Turkish TV, rebroadcast on PA TV, on occasion of the gathering of all Palestinian ambassadors in Turkey for briefing in anticipation of appeal to UN in September for recognition of independent Palestinian state. Abbas was asked whether, in his opinion, Hamas might recognize Israel.
Abbas: "I don’t know if it's possible that the day might come when Hamas will recognize Israel, but we, for our part, view Hamas as part of the Palestinian people. There is an opposition and there are supporters [a coalition], and that exists everywhere. It exists in Turkey; it exists in the US. It exists everywhere. Hamas has the right to decide its policy. If it wishes to recognize [Israel], it is free [to do so], and if it wishes not to recognize - it [Hamas] exists, and it has supporters, and there are those who want it [the movement] and there are those who like it on the Palestinian scene. With regard to Hamas – it is not required to recognize or not to recognize Israel. That is its own private business."

Abbas speech in Gaza, delivered in his name by his advisor and representative Abdallah Al-Ifranji, in honor of "nakba" day - "catastrophe" day, the day the PA mourns the creation of the State of Israel:
PA moderator of PA Gaza event: "The speech of President Mahmoud Abbas, Chairman of the PLO Executive Committee and President of the Palestinian Authority, will be delivered by the comrade, the great fighter, Abdallah Al-Ifranji, representative and advisor of the President."
Mahmoud Abbas, (delivered by his representative, Abdallah Al-Ifranji): "National reconciliation [between Hamas and Fatah] is required in order to face Israel and Netanyahu. We say to him [Netanyahu], when he claims - that they [Jews] have a historical right dating back to 3000 years BCE - we say that the nation of Palestine upon the land of Canaan had a 7000 year history BCE. This is the truth, which must be understood and we have to note it, in order to say: 'Netanyahu, you are incidental in history. We are the people of history. We are the owners of history.'"

Abbas: “We shall not agree to a Jewish state”
Source: Official PA daily, Al-Hayat Al-Jadida, Jan. 30, 2011
From meeting between Abbas and a delegation from the Women’s Union in Ramallah, following publication of leaked documents concerning Israeli Palestinian negotiations by Al-Jazeera:
     Mahmoud Abbas
: “When some 120 Israeli figures came here, they said, ‘What’s your opinion concerning the Jewish state?’, and I said that we wouldn’t agree to it. We know what they mean by it, and therefore we shall not agree to a Jewish state…” One of their [Israeli] offers [during the negotiations] was that perhaps we would agree to territory and population exchanges, and they mentioned by name some villages in the Triangle [Israel region bordering West Bank with high Arab population]. However, [Israeli Arab] Member of the Israeli Parliament Muhammad Barakeh spoke out yesterday against them…
The Palestinian Authority… has stated that this is a red line, and it is impossible that we would agree to territory and population exchanges…
We emphasize that all residents inside the Green Line [Israeli Arabs] will remain inside. We shall not under any circumstances accept [into the Palestinian state] a single resident from inside the Green Line, and everyone knows why.”

Mahmoud Abbas, PA Chairman, speech in Cuba:
"It is a great honor for me to be here today at the Cuban Friendship House… I have always sensed the warmth of the relations in every meeting with Cuban authorities…
I hope to receive President Castro for a visit to our country, Palestine, when Palestine is liberated from Israeli occupation, and when we have a Palestinian state with its capital in the honored Jerusalem… We are struggling through peaceful means in order to achieve our rights; we have therefore announced that we go along with international legitimacy, with the UN resolutions since '47 to this day. We want these resolutions to be implemented, and for [UN decisions of] international legitimacy to assume their rightful place. We do not want double criteria, whereby resolutions are implemented in one place but not implemented somewhere else…
We demand of the world to call upon Israel to implement these resolutions and to halt the settlement activity in our land, and to suffice with the territory apportioned to it in the UN resolution."
Abbas: "I will not accept a Jewish State"
Source: Official Palestinian Authority TV, Apr. 27, 2009
Mahmoud Abbas, PA Chairman and Head of Fatah:
"The 'Jewish state.' What is a 'Jewish state?' We call it, the 'State of Israel.' You can call yourselves whatever you want. But I will not accept it. And I say this on a live broadcast... It's not my job to define it, to provide a definition for the state and what it contains. You can call yourselves the Zionist Republic, the Hebrew, the National, the Socialist [Republic] call it whatever you like. I don't care."

Palestinian government recognizes Israel - for money transfers

Abbas to Condoleezza Rice: "Hamas must recognize Israel"
[The Jerusalem Post, Oct. 4, 2006]
Abbas to Arabs, broadcast on PA TV and Al-Arabiya (Dubai):

"It is not required of Hamas, nor of Fatah, nor of the Popular Front, to recognize Israel. Every person has the right to say, 'I do not recognize,' okay? It's your right. It is the right of any organization. But the government which will be formed, and which will function opposite the Israelis on a daily basis - how can this government, or these ministers, not recognize their counterparts, and then solve people's problems? The Palestinian finance minister has to come to an agreement with the Israeli finance minister about the transfer of the money. So how can he make an agreement with him if he does not recognize him? So I do not demand of Hamas nor any others to recognize Israel. But from the government that works with Israelis in day-to-day life, yes."
