Abbas’ advisor: Abbas refuses to meet US VP Pence, US decisions on Jerusalem have “crossed red lines”
Source: Official Palestinian Authority TV, Dec. 9, 2017
Official PA TV News, on the cancellation of PA Chairman Mahmoud Abbas’ meeting with US Vice President Mike Pence

Official PA TV newsreader: “Advisor to [PA] President [Mahmoud Abbas] on Diplomatic Affairs Majdi Al-Khaledi emphasized that President Abbas will under no circumstances receive American Vice President Mike Pence, who will visit the region in the second half of [December 2017]. Al-Khaledi said in a statement to [official PA radio station] The Voice of Palestine that there will be no meeting with Pence, and that the issue is greater than a mere meeting because the US - in its decisions relating to Jerusalem (i.e., to recognize Jerusalem as Israel’s capital and transfer the US embassy there; see note below) - has crossed red lines that it should not have crossed. Al-Khaledi rejected the American warnings regarding the consequences of cancelling this meeting, and emphasized that our people and its leadership reject any threat from anywhere.”

Abu Rudeina added: ‘The president again emphasizes our fixed and firm position – there is no Palestinian state without East Jerusalem as its capital, in accordance with the decisions of the international institutions and the Arab peace initiative.’”

Abbas praises unrest at the Al-Aqsa Mosque, calls to continue the "national struggle" until Jerusalem is Palestinian
Source: Official PA daily, Al-Hayat Al-Jadida, Aug. 11, 2017
At a ceremony held at the PA’s headquarters in Ramallah for the conclusion of the summer camps of 2017, organized by the PLO Supreme Council for Sport and Youth Affairs, PA Chairman Mahmoud Abbas reiterated that the Palestinians will continue their “struggle” until Jerusalem, Israel's capital, is on Palestinian hands:

Abbas: “The children of Palestine are the hope, the future, the independence, and the state, and in them we see Jerusalem, the capital of our independent state… [Palestinians are] continuing in our national struggle until one of our boys and girls will wave the flag of the State of Palestine above the walls of Jerusalem.’”

Abbas also praised Palestinians for their violent “uprising” against Israel’s security measures at the Al-Aqsa Mosque during the summer (2017) following a terror attack on the Temple Mount in which two Israeli border policemen were murdered. “We are with you and we support your resolve, and this is the reason that we say that the willpower of the peoples works wonders, and this is what happened at the blessed Al-Aqsa Mosque.”

Abbas representative at ceremony: Israel has a plan to “Judaize Jerusalem and build a synagogue as a prelude to building the alleged Temple”

Headline: "Abd Al-Rahim: Netanyahu is a wounded wolf who is attempting to take revenge and complete his plan in Jerusalem"

"Secretary-General of the Presidential Office Tayeb Abd Al-Rahim emphasized that 'We must be careful about the occupation's plans to Judaize Jerusalem and build a synagogue as a prelude to building the alleged Temple, and we must not close our eyes until victory.'
He added during a speech on behalf of [PA] President Mahmoud Abbas in a ceremony that Al-Quds Open University held yesterday [Aug. 9, 2017] for the launch of the graduation ceremonies of the 20th class of its graduates and to honor the outstanding students: 'We must be careful, as the Israeli assessment is that [Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin] Netanyahu is a wounded wolf (PMW could find no such statement in the Israeli media, but this apparently refers to corruption investigations against Netanyahu and those close to him –Ed.) who is attempting to take revenge and complete his plan in Jerusalem, and he has opened the way for the settlers to desecrate our holy sites and expel our people.'"
Abbas encourages Jerusalem riots: “We are with you in all that you have done and are still doing, you are causing us pride”
Source: Official PA daily, Al-Hayat Al-Jadida, July 26, 2017
“At the beginning of a meeting of the [PA] leadership yesterday evening [July 25, 2017], [PA] President Mahmoud Abbas said that as long as the situation in Jerusalem does not return to being as it was before July 14, [2017], there will be no changes whatsoever (refers to Israeli security measures at the Temple Mount following a terror attack there that were later removed; see note below –Ed.). The president added: ‘All of the new Israeli steps on the ground from that date until today need to stop, and then the situation in Jerusalem will return to normal. Afterwards we will continue our work on everything regarding the relations between us and them.’ The president said: ‘Since Israel tried to change the situation, the [Palestinian] residents of Jerusalem have risen as one (i.e., they launched violent riots –Ed.) You have objected to all of the [Israeli] steps, and we have supported you in what you have done and what you are doing. We are with you in everything that you have done and are still doing, as you are causing us pride, and you are taking care of your Al-Aqsa Mosque, your land, your dignity, your people, your religion, and your holy sites. This is the response to everyone who wants to harm our holy sites. Jerusalem is ours. It is our capital and it is [under] our sovereignty, and therefore what you [Palestinians] are doing is right.’"’

Abbas: Jerusalem must be “purely Arab”, “no Palestinian state whose capital is not Jerusalem”; Israel planning to “establish alleged Temple”
Source: Official PA daily, Al-Hayat Al-Jadida, July 23, 2017
Excerpt of the full speech of Secretary-General of the PA Presidential Office Tayeb Abd Al-Rahim, given on behalf of PA Chairman Mahmoud Abbas at the opening of the Second National Forum for Scientists in Palestine

“You know that the Palestinian leadership yesterday [July 22, 2017] held a meeting… in order to discuss the current situation and formulate appropriate solutions to deal with the developments. As far as we’re concerned, Jerusalem is our political Qiblah (i.e., the direction for Muslim prayer, Mecca)… to which our compass will not cease to point, no matter what the sacrifices may be. There will be no Palestinian state whose capital is not Jerusalem, and Jerusalem must be purely Arab for its Muslims and Christians. We will not agree to Jewish rule or sovereignty over it... My brothers, [Israel] forcing sovereignty on Jerusalem is an old plan for these followers of the Talmud. I tell you that this is not about a division [between Jews and Muslims] according to [prayer] times or areas in Jerusalem (sic., on the Temple Mount), but rather it is a step on the way to establishing the alleged Temple, which they are talking about now in the most open manner and with the utmost recklessness and insolence.”

Abbas tells international scholars that "terrorism must be fought everywhere," while condemning Israeli security measures following a deadly terror attack
Source: WAFA, official PA news agency, July 23, 2017
"President Mahmoud Abbas said on Sunday that the Palestinian leadership will not accept Israel's recently installed metal detectors at the gates of Al-Aqsa Mosque compound in Jerusalem. He said, '[Israel] does not have the right to install these metal detectors, because having sovereignty over Al-Aqsa Mosque is our [Palestinian] right. We have therefore taken a decisive and firm stance, especially with regard to security coordination.'
This came as Abbas received the scholars participating in the Second National Forum of Scholars in Palestine, organized by the Supreme Council for Innovation and Excellence, at the presidential headquarters in Ramallah. 'Things will be very difficult. We are not risking the destiny of our people. We only take deliberately examined decisions that we hope to make a result,' Abbas added. 'We, the State of Palestine, are convinced that terrorism must be fought everywhere, and we have at least 83 protocols with various countries around the world to combat violence and terrorism,' he told the participants."

Source: Official Fatah Facebook page, July 15, 2017

Text and video posted on the official Fatah Facebook page

PA Chairman Mahmoud Abbas: “It's not enough for us to say: ‘There are those carrying out Ribat’ (religious conflict / war over land claimed to be Islamic). We must all carry out Ribat in the Al-Aqsa [Mosque]. It's not enough for us to say: ‘The settlers have arrived [at the Mosque]’. They have come, and they must not come to the Sanctuary (i.e., Temple Mount). We have to prevent them, in any way whatsoever, from entering the Sanctuary. This is our Sanctuary, our Al-Aqsa and our Church [of the Holy Sepulchre]. They have no right to enter it. They have no right to defile it. We must prevent them. Let us stand before them with chests bared to protect our holy places.”

Abbas: If US embassy is moved to Jerusalem "it will destroy the peace process"
Source: Official PA daily, Al-Hayat Al-Jadida, Jan. 19, 2017
Headline: "The [PA] president: We adhere to peace, and transferring the American embassy to Jerusalem will destroy the peace process"
"During a joint press conference with his Polish counterpart, [Polish President Andrzej Duda, PA] President [Mahmoud Abbas] warned against transferring the American embassy in Israel from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem. He said that this would destroy the peace process, and added: 'We have heard things from American President-elect (Donald) Trump, but as of now we have not officially heard about the transfer of the American embassy to Jerusalem.'
He added: 'We want to hear what he says when he enters the White House - but if this step is taken, it will destroy the peace process.’ He added: 'We are not getting ahead of ourselves… it is better that we wait until he enters the White House and we hear from him directly as president of the US. Then there will be a response to every action, and if he decides to transfer the embassy to Jerusalem we will have a political and diplomatic response. We hope that it will not happen.'
The president emphasized his adherence to peace as an option from which there is no return. He noted that this year is likely to be the last opportunity to speak and act for the implementation of the two-state solution."

Headline: "The [PA] president: Transferring the American embassy to Jerusalem is provocative and will harm the peace process"
"[PA] President Mahmoud Abbas said that transferring the American embassy to Jerusalem will sabotage all future progress and the peace process. He noted that it is not just provocative but beyond provocative, and will harm the entire peace process.
The president, who led a [PA] government meeting today (Tuesday) [Jan. 17, 2017] conveyed a message to [US] President-elect Donald Trump by saying: ‘We hope that he will not transfer the embassy from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem as Jerusalem is a united city in the eyes of Israel, and it is not right and not legal. Therefore, transferring the embassy will sabotage all future progress, and therefore will [also] sabotage the peace process. We hope that he will stop the transfer of the embassy and begin negotiations on the basis of the international decisions and [UN] Security Council Resolution 2334, and on the basis of the results of the Paris Peace Conference [held Jan. 15, 2017]. When it all ends, each side will know what its borders are. We know that our borders are based on the 1967 [borders], including East Jerusalem as the capital of the State of Palestine. So they will do what they want, [but] before that, transferring the embassy will be not just provocative but beyond provocative, and will harm the entire peace process.’"

"PLO Executive Committee Secretary[-General] Saeb Erekat said yesterday [Jan. 13, 2017] that [PA] President Mahmoud Abbas asked Russian President Vladimir Putin to help prevent the US from transferring its embassy to Israel (sic., to Jerusalem). Erekat said that he passed the message from President Abbas to Putin during a visit to Moscow during which he met with [Russian] Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov.
Erekat said: ‘I passed a letter from President Abbas to Putin. Frankly, in it was a request for aid from Putin, after information reached us according to which US President-elect (Donald) Trump will transfer the embassy to Jerusalem, which as far as we are concerned is considered a red line and a serious matter…’
[PA] Mufti of Palestine Sheikh Muhammad Hussein yesterday condemned Trump’s plan to transfer the American embassy from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem. He viewed it as an attack on Muslims worldwide.
In a Friday sermon that he gave at the blessed Al-Aqsa Mosque, Sheikh Hussein said: ‘The promise of the president-elect [Trump] to transfer the embassy is not only an attack on the Palestinians, but rather on [all of] the Arabs and Muslims. The Muslims and Arabs will not remain silent when they see the aggression realized at the moment of the transfer of the embassy to occupied Jerusalem.’”

Abbas to foreign press: UNESCO resolution ignoring Jewish history on Temple Mount was “not about politics and religion”, Jerusalem is holy to all faiths
Source: Official PA daily, Al-Hayat Al-Jadida, Nov. 2, 2016
Headline: "During a press conference with his Italian counterpart in Bethlehem – the [PA] president: Peace is our strategic goal, and the key to it is the end of the occupation"

"During an interview with the Italian newspaper La Republica two days ago [Oct. 31, 2016]… [PA] President [Mahmoud Abbas] emphasized: 'The UNESCO (UN Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization) resolution talks about history and culture, and not about politics or religion. I wish to again repeat our position that Jerusalem is holy to the three religions – Islam, Christianity, and Judaism. When we say that East Jerusalem must be open to all religions, where is the problem? The UNESCO resolution talks only about the archaeological sites.'"

UNESCO (United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization) passed a resolution in Paris on “Occupied Palestine” on Oct. 13, 2016, with 24 countries voting in favor, 6 against, and 24 abstentions. The resolution was later approved by UNESCO's World Heritage Committee on Oct. 26, 2016, in a secret ballot in which ten countries voted in favor of the resolution, two opposed, eight abstained, and one country, Jamaica, was absent.
In the resolution UNESCO refers to the Temple Mount, the holiest site in Judaism, only as “Al-Aqsa Mosque/Al-Haram Al-Sharif,” and presents it only as a “Muslim holy site.” The resolution condemns “escalating Israeli aggressions” and Israeli “violations” at the site, and calls on Israel “to respect the integrity, authenticity and cultural heritage of Al-Aq?a Mosque/Al-?aram Al-Sharif… as a Muslim holy site of worship.” The resolution likewise refers to the Western Wall Plaza as the “Al-Buraq Plaza ‘Western Wall Plaza,’” adding quotation marks to the Jewish name for the site.
The resolution was submitted by Algeria, Egypt,
Abbas: UNESCO resolution ignoring Jewish connection to holy sites is meant to “prevent harm,” and to condemn “Israeli violations” against East Jerusalem’s “identity”
Source: WAFA, official PA news agency, Nov. 1, 2016
Headline: “The [PA] president: Peace is our strategic goal, and the key to it is the end of the Israeli occupation”
“[PA] President of the State of Palestine Mahmoud Abbas said that peace is our strategic goal, that it is an interest of all of us, and that the key to peace is to end the Israeli occupation and to put an end to the historical injustice caused to our people, so that the two states – Palestine and Israel – will live in security, stability, peace, and good neighborliness.
During a press conference that he held in Bethlehem with his Italian counterpart President Sergio Mattarella, His Honor (i.e., Abbas) expressed his constant willingness to make peace with Israel and to implement the two-state solution according to the resolutions of the international institutions and the Arab Peace Initiative. He expressed support for the international peace conference that France is working to convene at the end of this year [2016]. Likewise, he clarified that the role of UNESCO (the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization) and its resolutions is to protect the global human heritage, and as part of this to prevent harm to it and to condemn the Israeli violations that are meant to change the nature and identity of East Jerusalem. He noted that the latest Israeli attacks, which attempted to mix religion and heritage, are incorrect and inappropriate. President Mahmoud Abbas again emphasized the honor he has for Judaism, and the permanent call that Jerusalem be open to worship for all believers of the three monotheistic religions. His Honor expressed support for every regional and international effort to struggle with and uproot the roots of terror, extremism, and violence, which are deserving of condemnation regardless of their source and nature.”

“The following is the text of the president’s [Abbas’] speech before the Djibouti National Assembly:
“Brother president, brothers and sisters, I have come to you from Palestine and Jerusalem’s environs, where our people is engaged in a bitter conflict with the Israeli occupation, and is paying a heavy price [in order to obtain] freedom and independence, from the blood of its sons who are defending their honor, the honor of their Arab and Islamic nation, the holy places of Islam and Christianity, and the pure land.
These days, the Palestinian territories are witness to a state of agitation and tension (this refers to a wave of Palestinian terror attacks since September 2015 –Ed.) due to hopelessness and despair among the young, and the closure of the political horizon that does not herald a better future and a way out of the current situation, which is a result of the continued occupation and attacks against the Islamic and Christian holy sites in Jerusalem, particularly against the Al-Aqsa Mosque."
Abbas denies again existence of Temple; says Jewish extremists plan to destroy Al-Aqsa mosque
Source: Official PA daily, Al-Hayat Al-Jadida, Nov. 16, 2015
Headline: “The president [Abbas]: Israel’s policy will ignite a religious war from which no one will be saved”
Abbas: ‘What we and the brothers in Jordan agreed on with Secretary John Kerry, is to keep the status quo in the blessed Al-Aqsa Mosque as a place of Muslim worship, under the custody of the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan, and under the administration of the Islamic Waqf (i.e., Jerusalem Islamic Waqf Foundation). This has been the situation since the occupation of East Jerusalem by Israel in 1967. However, this started to change later on, after the ominous visit of [then Israeli Prime Minister Ariel] Sharon [to the Temple Mount] in 2000, under Israeli security forces’ protection, which led to the second Intifada, the Al-Aqsa Intifada (i.e., PA terror campaign, 2000-2005). Since 2000, Israeli governments have been trying to change the situation, and the Israeli police and army forces began entering the plaza of the Sanctuary (i.e., the Al-Aqsa Mosque) wearing uniforms and carrying weapons.  This is also the case with the extremist Jews, who wish, and declare so, to destroy the Al-Aqsa Mosque and build their alleged Temple in its place. This is while restrictions are imposed on Muslim worshippers, such as the prohibition [of entry] of people under the age of 50, and allocation of specific hours, during which only Jewish presence is allowed. This was a serious warning bell that the Israeli government wants to divide the Al-Aqsa Mosque according to areas and times...'"

Headline: “The president: ‘Israel must implement the status quo that existed in the Al-Aqsa before 2000”
“[PA] President Mahmoud Abbas said that Israel must implement the status quo regarding the Al-Aqsa Mosque’s status and the [Jerusalem] Islamic Waqf [Foundation] as it was before 2000, and not what it is trying to force now. The president added at the beginning of the PLO Executive Committee meeting held yesterday [Nov. 4, 2015], Wednesday afternoon, in the presidential compound in Ramallah: ’We have emphasized more than once to the relevant bodies that what Israel is trying to implement at the moment at the blessed Al-Aqsa Mosque is not accurate, and not right, and is a falsification of the facts.’ … [The committee] called for respect of the holiness of the site, including its entire plaza which sits on 144 dunam (approximately 35.6 acres -Ed.), as a site holy to Muslims, as the first direction of prayer and the third holiest [Islamic] sanctuary, which will not be divided in any way by areas and times, under any pretext… The committee discussed the situation of the district and city of Hebron and the crimes being carried out by the occupation forces and herds of settlers against the [Palestinian] citizens (this refers to the many Palestinian stabbings taking place in Hebron and Israel’s response to them –Ed.). The committee expressed approval of the widespread public participation in the activities of the blessed popular uprising, and emphasized that the great sacrifices the district made and is making will remain as a beacon which will light the path of liberation from the occupation and getting rid of the cancer of settlement and settlers, for the generations.”

Abbas blames surge of Palestinian terror on Israel, “which has continued to desecrate our holy sites” and calls for continued “popular peaceful resistance”
Source: Official PA daily, Al-Hayat Al-Jadida, Oct. 12, 2015
Just eight days after Palestinian terrorist Muhannad Halabi stabbed two Israelis to death in Jerusalem and ten days after terrorists shot and murdered two young parents in the West Bank, Abbas made this statement claiming that Israel is responsible for the Palestinian surge in violence because it “descrate[s] the holy sites”:
“[PA] President [Mahmoud Abbas] met last night [Oct. 11, 2015] with the [Fatah] branch secretaries and representatives of the Fatah Shabiba movement in the northern districts of the homeland (i.e., the West Bank). He updated them on the latest political developments, and expressed appreciation for their efforts to establish the Palestinian cause as the central cause in the region which needs to be the first priority of the international community. The president said that the party responsible for what is happening is the occupation, which has continued to desecrate our holy sites in Jerusalem, protects the settlers during their attacks against our people, and evades fulfilling its obligations according to agreements signed between the two sides until a permanent solution [is reached]. He added that the Israeli government sets loose the settlers who attack our holy sites and our people, block the roads, and burn the crops.  The president emphasized that the Fatah movement will remain the spine of the Palestinian revolution, will continue to lead the struggle to freedom through popular peaceful resistance, and will continue to adhere to the national principles, first among them the establishment of our independent Palestinian state with East Jerusalem as its capital… [In] a phone call with European Union Foreign Minister Federica Mogherini… he [Abbas] emphasized that continued settlers’ provocations in the blessed Al-Aqsa Mosque will lead to disastrous results.”

“President Mahmoud Abbas stated: ‘ We do not attack anyone, but we also do not want them to attack us. Moreover, we do not want them to enter the Al-Aqsa Mosque. We will not be dragged into their cycle [of violence], and will not use violence or force. We believe in peace and non-violent popular resistance, which is our right, and we must continue with it as long as there is [Israeli] aggression.’ This was said while president Abbas inaugurated a CCC (Consolidated Contractors Company) building... The president stated: ‘ We support our brothers who protect the Al-Aqsa Mosque and who suffer greatly to defend it. However, we say to the Israeligovernment: Stay away from the holy sites of Islam and Christianity. We want peace, and our hands reach out for peace in spite of all the suffering you inflict on us, but after all we are pacifists, and if there is peace here, it will include the whole world.’ He added: ‘ We stated in the UN and we will repeat that Israel must fulfill its obligations, and we will fulfill our duties. Yet if they do not want to fulfill their obligations, they are responsible for what will happen here, and for the chaos taking
place here.”

PA Chairman Mahmoud Abbas: "We do not use violence at all, or use force. We seek peace. We believe in peace, and we believe in national resistance, Palestinian, popular, peaceful. This is our right. They have to understand that this is our right and we need to continue [the resistance] as long as there is [Israeli] aggression. We do not attack anyone and will not agree to attack anyone. However, we want them not to attack us, and we want them not to go into the Al-Aqsa Mosque…
We hold the hands of our brothers who are protecting the Al-Aqsa [Mosque] and suffering greatly to protect the Al-Aqsa [Mosque]. After Palestinians murder 4 Israeli civilians Abbas says “the Palestinian side did not attack… We have to protect our holy sites”
Source: Official PA daily, Al-Hayat Al-Jadida, Oct. 7, 2015

Originally aired on PA TV on Oct. 6, and published in Al-Hayat Al-Jadida on Oct. 7, 2015.
PA Chairman Mahmoud Abbas: "In these difficult days, the Israeli government is escalating its strong offensive against the Palestinian people everywhere… Honestly, we do not know what the reason is for this, since the Palestinian side did not attack and did not do anything against the Israelis. If they [Israelis] think that the [Palestinian] people in Jerusalem are protecting themselves, that is our right. We have to protect our holy sites, Islamic and Christian. If they think to divide the Al-Aqsa [Mosque], it is unattainable, and they will not succeed…
We do not want a military and security escalation between us and them. We do not want that. We do not want that. We do not want that. We said it clearly. All our orders to our [security] forces, to our organization, to our young and our public, are that we do not want an escalation. We wish to defend ourselves. How should we react when a group of settlers attack a village? How should we react? Keep away from it! We do not start and we do not initiate. Israel has to cease and accept the hand held out to it."

Abbas at UN: Israel has "plans to undermine the Islamic and Christian sanctuaries in Jerusalem, particularly its actions at the Al-Aqsa Mosque"
Source: UN's website, Sept. 30, 2015
Opening of Abbas' speech at the UN on Sept. 30, 2015:
PA Chairman Abbas: "I come before you today from Palestine, compelled to sound the alarm about the grave dangers of what is happening in Jerusalem, where extremist Israeli groups are committing repeated, systematic incursions upon Al-Aqsa Mosque, aimed at imposing a new reality and dividing Al-Haram Al-Sharif temporally, allowing extremists, under the protection of Israeli occupying forces and accompanying ministers and Knesset members, to enter the Mosque at certain times, while preventing Muslim worshipers from accessing and entering the Mosque at those times and freely exercising their religious rights.
This is the scheme that the Israeli government is pursuing, in direct violation of the status quo since before 1967 and thereafter. By doing so, the occupying power is committing a grave mistake, because we will not accept this, and the Palestinian people will not allow the implementation of this illegal scheme, which is aggravating the sensitivities of Palestinians and Muslims everywhere. I call on the Israeli government, before it is too late, to cease its use of brutal force to impose its plans to undermine the Islamic and Christian sanctuaries in Jerusalem, particularly its actions at Al-Aqsa Mosque, for such actions will convert the conflict from a political to religious one, creating an explosive in Jerusalem and in the rest of the occupied Palestinian territory."

Abbas in speech in Moscow condemns "systematic aggression against the blessed Al-Aqsa Mosque", claims the Mosque "belongs to Muslims only"
Source: WAFA, official PA news agency, Sept. 23, 2015
Headline: "The president [Abbas] called to provide protection to the holy places of Islam and Christianity in Jerusalem at the inauguration of the Moscow Cathedral Mosque"
"President of the State of Palestine Mahmoud Abbas called on the international community to provide protection to the holy places of Christianity and Islam in Jerusalem and ensure the freedom of religion, as it existed before the Israeli occupation of Jerusalem in 1967, especially at the Al-Aqsa Mosque.
His honor stated during his speech today, Wednesday, [Sept. 23, 2015], at the inauguration of the Moscow Cathedral Mosque in the presence of President of Russia Vladimir Putin and President of Turkey Recep Tayyip Erdoan, together with Arab and Islamic delegations and international personalities: 'The systematic aggression against the blessed Al-Aqsa Mosque, the first direction of prayer and the third holiest [Islamic] sanctuary, in occupied East Jerusalem, the capital of the State of Palestine, cannot serve peace, coexistence and tolerance between the religions and nations. It provides an additional excuse for extremists around the world who use religions in their terror and their aggression against humanity.'
His honor emphasized that the Al-Aqsa Mosque belongs to Muslims only, and it is the right of every Muslim in the world to visit it and hold religious ceremonies in its plaza. In addition, he expressed his strong opposition to any measure taken by the occupation, aimed at limiting Muslims' access to it and preventing them from holding their ceremonies freely inside it."

Today, when he [Abbas] met with activists from occupied Jerusalem in the presidential compound in Ramallah, his honor added: 'There is no door that we won't knock on to make the voice of Jerusalem be heard. I am certain that no harm will befall Jerusalem, though the occupation is waging a brutal war against it. However, we will continue to protect it in every situation. We are speaking with everyone, and everyone is asking what we are doing to make the voice of Jerusalem heard.'
His honor [Abbas] saluted the Murabitin (those carrying out Ribat, religious conflict/war to protect land claimed to be Islamic) and stated: 'Every drop of blood that has been spilled in Jerusalem is holy blood as long as it was for Allah. Abbas warns of Israel’s division of Al-Aqsa Mosque according to areas and times
Source: Wattan (independent Palestinian news agency)‎, Sept. 17, 2015
Headline: “A bomb in the President’s speech”
“President Mahmoud Abbas sincerely revealed the American, Arab and Islamic pressures that led him to consider resignation, and expressed his ‘strong objection to the idea of the “Jewish State,” since it serves as justification for the religious wars in the middle east, and extremist organizations such as ISIS,’ he said… Regarding his upcoming visit to the UN, the president declared that he would ‘drop a bomb’ at the end of his speech, which he refused to disclose, and noted that he would speak about ‘Oslo and the Israeli violations reflected in the Israeli Supreme Court’s resolutions to allow the demolition of Palestinian houses in areas A and B, which are supposed to be under the PA’s administrative control.’
Regarding Jerusalem’s explosive situation, Abbas said that ‘Israel is implementing a division according to times at the Al-Aqsa Mosque, and maybe even according to areas, between Jews and Muslims.’ He emphasized that ‘this division according to times and areas will absolutely not be accepted,’ and that ‘Jerusalem is a red line, and we will not allow [anyone] to harm it,’ in his words. Abbas attacked the notion of the ‘Jewish State’ saying: ‘If Israel wants to be a Jewish state, there will be justification for ISIS and other similar organizations to establish an Islamic State in Syria, Gaza, Egypt, etc.’”

‘And those who strive for Us - We will surely guide them to Our ways. And indeed, Allah is with the doers of good.’ (Quran, Sura 29:69, translation Sahih International)

Abbas: Israel is trying to “Judaize” the Western Wall
Source: Official PA daily, Al-Hayat Al-Jadida, June 19, 2015
Headline: “The President [Abbas] to [Egyptian magazine] Rose Al-Yusuf: All efforts to achieve peace should be made in accordance with the international decisions”
Q: Could you elaborate on the campaign to isolate Israel politically and economically?
PA Chairman Abbas: Because of this campaign, which has begun before 2012 and is still running, all of Europe now says that the settlements are illegal, and Washington also stated, through its Secretary of State John Kerry, that the settlements are illegal. Furthermore, Europe has taken another step forward and boycotted all products originating from settlements, because they are illegal, and this is the first time in history that Europe has taken such positions. Therefore we continue in this direction and we will not stop. This is what I have said when I have spoken to several American officials – that our goal is to isolate Israel’s policy… and they say: ‘You want to isolate Israel.’ I told them, however: ‘I recognize Israel but I demand to isolate its policies.’ If I did not mean to recognize it, I would have stopped my relations with them [the Israelis], but I do not wish to boycott them, but rather to isolate their foreign policy in all the countries of the world and, praise Allah, we have succeeded. This is what made the Pope, who recently visited us, change his planned route and pray at the Al-Buraq Wall (i.e., the Western Wall) which Israel is trying to Judaize, and he also prayed near the [separation] fence, which was not part of his program, in order to tell the world: ‘We are against the fence.’”

Source: Official Palestinian Authority TV, Jan. 12, 2015
Official PA TV News, PA Chairman Mahmoud Abbas’ speech during a visit to Turkey on Jan. 12, 2015
PA Chairman Mahmoud Abbas: “The most serious thing from what I mentioned before is the methodical plan that the Israeli government is carrying out to change Jerusalem’s identity and to make things difficult for its residents. Here I warn of all the plans to change the status quo of the last 67 years in Jerusalem, and especially at the Al-Aqsa Mosque. This constitutes a threat, as you know, to turn the political and national conflict between us and the Israelis into a religious conflict. This is something we do not want and we warn against it.”

Mahmoud Al-Habbash, the Supreme Shari’ah Judge and Mahmoud Abbas’ Advisor on [Religious and] Islamic Affairs, said in a speech on behalf of President Abbas: ‘It is a great honor to stand [here] and speak on behalf of the President, on a day so full of [historic] occasions…’
He added: ‘On the 12th of the [Islamic] month of Rabi' Al-Awwal, his [the Prophet Muhammad’s] noble light broke forth (i.e., he was born), and on this day he prophesied, migrated to Medina and returned to his creator. Therefore, this is the day of the Prophet, and justly so. We celebrate it at the same time we observe the birthday of Jesus, peace be upon Him, and the golden anniversary of the revolution of the [Palestinian] land and man, the revolution of Palestine against the occupation, in order to rescue our immortal right…’
Al-Habbash emphasized that at the end of the road, the meeting place would be there, in Jerusalem, at the blessed Al-Aqsa Mosque – noble, dignified and liberated – without which there would be no peace or stability for anyone in the region and the world at large, [Jerusalem] being the crown jewel, and without it there can be no state, no life and no honor.”

Abbas' advisor: No Muslim will ever accept "non-Muslim sovereignty over even a millimeter of... Jerusalem"

Abbas’ advisor and Supreme Shari’ah Judge Mahmoud Al-Habbash delivers Friday sermon in the presence of Mahmoud Abbas:

“The [Israeli] violations, arrogance, recklessness, stupidity and foolishness will lead to what we fear - outbreak of a religious war between them [Israelis] and all Muslims... If [war] breaks out, it will not be confined to Palestine’s borders, nor to those of the Middle East. It may spread to the entire world. Wherever there are Muslims, there will be confrontations. Al-Aqsa is a part of the religion, creed and faith of every Muslim, so he will never accept any violation or any attack against it, or any desecration of its sanctity, or any non-Muslim sovereignty over even a millimeter of its land and the land of Jerusalem.”

Abbas issues lukewarm condemnation of Jerusalem synagogue massacre, highlighting Israel's supposed “aggression against the Al-Aqsa Mosque"
Source: Official Palestinian Authority TV, Nov. 18, 2014
PA Chairman Mahmoud Abbas: “[The] synagogue [attack] in Jerusalem, which led to the murder of several Israelis: Of course, we strongly condemn such incidents, and under no circumstances do we condone acts of terror against citizens. We say here that just as we condemn this aggression, we condemn the aggression against the Al-Aqsa Mosque compound in Jerusalem (i.e., the Temple Mount), against the holy places and the burning of mosques (i.e., an allusion to the firebombing of a mosque in a village north of Ramallah on Nov. 12, 2014) and churches, because none of these serves the common interest in the name of which we are acting toward the establishment of two states – the State of Palestine alongside the State of Israel. We call for complete respite from all these actions, in order to allow us to continue the diplomatic route and diplomatic activity, which will bring peace to the Middle East.”

Note: On Nov. 18, 2014, two Arab terrorists, Ghassan and Uday Abu Jamal from East Jerusalem, entered a synagogue in Jerusalem and attacked worshippers with guns, knives and axes, killing 4 worshippers and a police officer. 7 people were injured, 3 of them seriously. The terrorists were killed in an exchange of fire with Israeli Security Forces that arrived on the scene.

Source: Official Palestinian Authority TV, Nov. 18, 2014
Official PA TV Live broadcast PA Chairman Mahmoud Abbas’ speech at the opening of the 14th session of the Fatah Revolutionary Council
PA Chairman Mahmoud Abbas: “For a while now, Jerusalem has been subjected to the attacks of the settlers, who are aiming to divide the holy compound according to time and place. We know what this means. Numerous attacks on the Al-Aqsa Mosque have been stopped by those carrying out Ribat (religious conflict/war over land claimed to be Islamic) who were present at the holy compound. I say to our people in Jerusalem and the West Bank: We must all carry out Ribat at the Al-Aqsa Mosque, and we will not let the herds of settlers deride the Al-Aqsa Mosque. We are currently taking the necessary international legal steps in this matter.”

Note: The physical division and division according to time refers to a proposed law (May 2013) being reviewed in Israeli Parliament that would allow for both Jews and Muslims to pray on the Temple Mount. The law seeks to implement separate prayer times for Muslims and Jews at the site.

Source: Official Palestinian Authority TV, Nov. 11, 2014
Official PA TV broadcast a repeat of PA Chairman Mahmoud Abbas’ speech on the 10th anniversary of Yasser Arafat’s death:
PA Chairman Mahmoud Abbas: “The Israeli leadership is making a big mistake if it thinks history is reversible and that they can establish facts on the ground and divide the Al-Aqsa [Mosque] according to place and time, as they did in the past at the Ibrahimi Mosque (i.e., Cave of the Patriarchs) in Hebron – a step they will yet retract. With their actions, they are leading the region and the world into a destructive religious war. Neither the Muslim nor the Christian world will ever accept the Israeli claims that Jerusalem belongs to them. No one, [neither] Muslims nor Christians, will accept that Jerusalem be [anything] but the capital of the State of Palestine, and we will accept no other claims, whatever they may be. Jerusalem is our capital, and we will not give it up. Jerusalem, which was conquered in 1967, is our Jerusalem and our capital, and we will protect it and defend its holy places. We are all Murabitin (i.e., those who carry out Ribat, religious conflict/war over land claimed to be Islamic) along with the children of Jerusalem.”

He has chosen us to live in Jerusalem and its environs, and to stand against [the enemy], protest against him, carry out Ribat (religious conflict/war over land claimed to be Islamic) against him, and defend what belongs to the religion and the nation. We will protect the land of the prophets from the enemies of the prophets. We will protect the land of the Apostles from the enemies of the Apostles. The campaign being waged in Jerusalem today – I am telling you, brothers – I think it is the final chapter. Source: Official Palestinian Authority TV, Nov. 4, 2014

Abbas advisor: Israel plans to ban Muslims from Al-Aqsa Mosque
Source: Official PA daily, Al-Hayat Al-Jadida, Oct. 31, 2014
“Mahmoud Al-Habbash, the Supreme Shari’ah Judge and Mahmoud Abbas’ Advisor on Religious and Islamic Affairs, said that the complete closing of the Al-Aqsa Mosque for the first time [since 1967] was planned by the official establishment of the occupation state. In addition, he said that ‘the claim of the attempted murder of the extremist Yehuda Glick, who engineered the daily invasions of the Al-Aqsa Mosque’s plazas and calls for the construction of the alleged Temple over the ruins of the Mosque, was the excuse needed to carry out this premeditated plan to divide Al-Aqsa and permit the Jews to pray in it just like the Muslims. This constitutes the first step toward the complete Judaization [of the Mosque] and toward the banning of Muslims from going to it.’”

PA meeting attended by Abbas: Israel’s “violations” against Al-Aqsa Mosque are part of plan to make Palestinians leave Jerusalem
Source: Official PA daily, Al-Hayat Al-Jadida, Oct. 29, 2014
“[PA] President Mahmoud Abbas presided over a meeting of the Supreme Committee for Jerusalem Affairs yesterday evening, in the presence of Prime Minister Rami Hamdallah. The [participants] discussed the latest developments in occupied Jerusalem, especially the settlers’ continuous invasions of the blessed Al-Aqsa Mosque. The participants warned of the gravity of Israel’s actions and unceasing attacks and discussed ways to strengthen the resolve of the Palestinian residents in the Holy City and to fight the Israeli violations, whose goal is to cause the Palestinian people to emigrate from Jerusalem and to change its Palestinian Arab character. They warned that the continuation of these provocative attacks and violations would lead to a deterioration of the situation and to an intensification of the cycle of violence, the results of which cannot be foreseen – if Israel continues to allow extremist Jews to continuously invade the blessed Al-Aqsa Mosque.”

Note: The PA considers any presence of Jews on the Temple Mount an "invasion." However, all visitors are subject to rigorous checks by Israeli security personnel before being granted access to the Temple Mount.
Abbas advisor: Israel “is planning to carry out a massacre or to burn the [Al-Aqsa] Mosque”
Source: Official Palestinian Authority TV, Oct. 27, 2014
Official PA TV program Topic of the Day hosted Ahmed Al-Ruweidi, advisor to Abbas on Jerusalem Affairs
“Israel wants to make some incident happen, and on the basis of this incident it will divide [the Al-Aqsa Mosque] according to place. It is planning to carry out a massacre or to burn the Mosque – this is what we saw at the Ibrahimi Mosque (i.e., Cave of the Patriarchs in Hebron). It only divided the Ibrahimi Mosque after the Hebron massacre (i.e., when an Israeli extremist gunned down Muslims who were praying in the mosque, see note below).”

Notes: The physical division and division according to time and place refers to a proposed law (May 2013) being reviewed in Israeli Parliament that would allow for both Jews and Muslims to pray on the Temple Mount. The law seeks to implement separate prayer times for Muslims and Jews at the site.
Cave of the Patriarchs massacre: On Feb. 25, 1994, Baruch Goldstein, a member of an Israeli far-right movement, opened fire on Muslims praying inside the Ibrahimi Mosque at the Cave of the Patriarchs in Hebron, killing 29 and wounding 125. Goldstein’s attack was widely condemned in Israel and by Jewish communities in the diaspora; Israeli Prime Minister Yitzhak Rabin condemned Goldstein’s action, calling it “a loathsome, criminal act of murder” and described Goldstein as “a shame on Zionism and an embarrassment to Judaism.” Rabin also noted that, contrary to what is implied above, Goldstein had acted alone. In addition to verbal condemnation, the Israeli government took concrete steps to prevent similar attacks from occurring, by dividing the Mosque into Muslim and Jewish sections, imposing administrative detentions on several individuals and revoking their weapons permits, and by designating several extremist movements, including Goldstein’s, as illegal terrorist groups.
Abbas to US: Israel responsible for escalating violence in Jerusalem because of its “invasions of Al-Aqsa Mosque”
Source: Official PA daily, Al-Hayat Al-Jadida, Oct. 27, 2014
This article was published during a period of high tension in Jerusalem that included riots in Palestinian areas and numerous terror attacks against Israelis. On Oct. 22, a ‎Palestinian ran over people waiting at a light-rail station in Jerusalem with his car, killing a three-month-old and a 22-year-old. On Oct. 29, 2014, Islamic Jihad member Mutaz Hijazi attempted to assassinate Rabbi Yehuda Glick, an activist working to assure rights for Jews to visit and pray on the Temple Mount.

“[PA] President Mahmoud Abbas sent an urgent letter to the US administration, in which he demanded that it intervene quickly to stop the Israeli escalation in East Jerusalem, and especially the settlers’ and extremist Jews’ invasions of the blessed Al-Aqsa Mosque. In his letter, the President warned of the danger posed by the steps Israel is taking to divide the holy places according to time and place. He noted that if [these steps] continue, they will further inflame the situation, which is liable to spin out of control, and held the Israeli government responsible for this grave escalation.”

Note: The physical division and division according to time refers to a proposed law (May 2013) being reviewed in Israeli Parliament that would allow for both Jews and Muslims to pray on the Temple Mount. The law seeks to implement separate prayer times for Muslims and Jews at the site.
Abbas’ advisor warns that Israel may be planning a massacre at Al-Aqsa Mosque or to attack its buildings
Source: Official PA daily, Al-Hayat Al-Jadida, Oct. 20, 2014
“At a press conference attended by Jordanian MP Dr. Muhammad Al-Dawaymeh, Attorney Ahmed Al-Ruweidi, the PA President's Office’s advisor on Jerusalem Affairs, warned that Israel may perpetrate a massacre in the Al-Aqsa Mosque or attack its buildings, as an excuse to carry out the plan to divide it according to areas… Al-Ruweidi emphasized that the events of the past two weeks at the Al-Aqsa Mosque indicate that Israel is gradually implementing a planned scheme decided on by the Israeli government – in particular, by Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu – against the Al-Aqsa Mosque. Al-Ruweidi expects the occupation to perpetrate a great crime at the Al-Aqsa Mosque, following which the Mosque will be divided according to areas, as happened at the Ibrahimi Mosque (i.e., Cave of the Patriarchs) in Hebron, where the occupation exploited the massacre (i.e., when an Israeli extremist killed 29 worshippers at the mosque in 1994) that had occurred in order to divide it according to space. In addition, Al-Ruweidi addressed the attempt to inflame the Al-Aqsa Mosque premises by firing rubber-coated bullets and tear gas at it, in an attempt to reenact the burning of the Mosque in 1969, or to carry out a massacre in its plazas, after which the plan to divide it according to areas would be implemented.”

Abbas: Israel "would have destroyed the Al-Aqsa [Mosque]" if it could
Source: Official Palestinian Authority TV, June 8, 2014
Egyptian TV host: "From Bethlehem to the Al-Aqsa Mosque, Mr. President, we see a continuous Judaization and desecration of the holy places. What are the practical measures against this [Israeli] plan?"
PA Chairman Mahmoud Abbas: "If the Israelis were allowed to go further, they would have gone further and destroyed the Al-Aqsa [Mosque]. They would have destroyed the Al-Aqsa [Mosque], but I don’t think they will do it... The Israelis are now far more careful in all their steps, because we can hurt them legally and diplomatically - it isn't 'diplomatic terrorism.' We can hurt them legally and diplomatically in the whole world if they continue to behave like that."

Abbas rep: Palestinian presence in Jerusalem is 5000 years old, Israel threatens the city's Islamic-Christian identity
Source: Official PA daily, Al-Hayat Al-Jadida, May 13, 2014
“The talks at the International Conference for the Support of Jerusalem, organized by the UN, the Organization for Islamic Cooperation and the Turkish Foreign Ministry, began in the Turkish capital, Ankara, yesterday [May 12, 2014], with the participation of PA Chairman Mahmoud Abbas’ representative, [PA] Minister of Religious Affairs Mahmoud Al-Habbash…
In the speech [given in the name] of the President [Abbas], Al-Habbash asserted that Palestinian presence in Jerusalem dates back over 5,000 years, and that the Palestinians are the only permanent element in Jerusalem, while the others came and went. Al-Habbash described the grave dangers threatening Jerusalem under the Israeli occupation – despite the fact that nobody in the world recognizes Israel’s sovereignty over it. He called on all powers, parties and governments to cooperate in defending Jerusalem and protecting its Islamic-Christian identity.”

PA Minister of Religious Affairs demands all of Jerusalem for Palestinians, "Or there will be no peace"
Source: Official Palestinian Authority TV, May 2, 2014
Official PA TV broadcast the Friday sermon from the Al-Tashrifat Mosque in the presidential compound in Ramallah. The sermon was delivered by PA Minister of Religious Affairs Mahmoud Al-Habbash. The audience included PA Chairman Mahmoud Abbas and PA Finance Minister Jawad Naji.
PA Minister of Religious Affairs Mahmoud Al-Habbash: “Our rights are non-negotiable and we state them clearly. We want a real state with clear borders, with Jerusalem as its capital – and hear [me] well: Jerusalem as its capital, not with its capital in Jerusalem; its capital is the whole of Jerusalem, all of Jerusalem – who ever wishes [otherwise], let them wish [otherwise] and whoever opposes, let them oppose, in spite of them. Jerusalem will be nothing other than ours, or there will be no peace…
Forming one government for one people, one authority, one state, with one leadership and one weapon; with one decision that will lead, in a few months’ time, to free elections, in which the Palestinian people will state its will…
[The new unity government] will concentrate the administrative decisions (i.e., all internal affairs) of the Palestinian government and the Palestinian people under one umbrella, one authority, one weapon and one security [establishment], which will protect the rights of the Palestinian people and the dignity of the Palestinian person.”
Abbas defined Jewish history in Jerusalem as a "delusional myth"
Source: Official Palestinian Authority TV, Jan. 17, 2014

PA TV broadcast PA Chairman Mahmoud Abbas’ speech at the Jerusalem Committee meeting in Marrakech.

PA Chairman Mahmoud Abbas: “The Israeli occupation authorities are rushing, in an unprecedented way –using the most despicable and dangerous means – to carry out what they consider to be the final battle in their war to erase and remove the Islamic-Christian Arab character of East Jerusalem, in an effort to Judaize it and establish it as the capital of the occupation state…
The occupation authorities are continuing their efforts to achieve their final goal of Judaizing Jerusalem, acting in several ways. These include, first, their attempt to change the facts of Jerusalem’s landscape in every detail, and replace it with a different landscape whose purpose is to serve delusional myths and the arrogance of power. They imagine that by this brute force they can invent a [Jewish] history, establish claims and erase solid religious and historical facts.”

Abbas applauds following call for Jihad in Jerusalem
Source: Official PA TV Live, Jan. 13, 2014
PA Minister of Religious Affairs Mahmoud Al-Habbash: “There is a message we must convey to those who kidnapped the Yarmouk [Palestinian] refugee camp [in Syria] with baseless false slogans, pretexts, and excuses. We say to them: ‘The venue for resistance and Jihad is not the Yarmouk refugee camp. Whoever wants resistance, whoever wants Jihad, the direction for Jihad is well-known and clear. Everyone knows it. I don’t think that there is anyone who doesn’t know where Jihad is supposed to take place. [Applause from the audience] I don’t think that there is anyone who doesn’t know to where we should direct efforts or where to concentrate the masses. I don’t think there is anyone who doesn’t know this. Those who send young people to Syria or elsewhere to die for a misdirected cause must stop and understand that Jerusalem is still waiting. Jerusalem is the direction, Jerusalem is the address. [Abbas and audience applaud.] A compass that does not point to Jerusalem, Muhammad has nothing to do with it. Put an end to your ignorance, and recognize that you [those fighting in Syria] are nothing more than small tools in a game [controlled by] malicious hands that are running a filthy game to crush the Ummah (Islamic Nation) and diminish it, and deflect the compass, away from its true direction.”

Abbas in letter: Jesus was a Palestinian
Source: Official Palestinian Authority TV, Dec. 24, 2013
PA TV program Palestine This Morning interviewed Father Raed Abu Sahliya about the meaning of Christmas.
Father Raed Abu Sahliya: “First of all, I want to thank his Excellency, President Mahmoud Abbas for his letter, which was published yesterday [Dec. 23, 2013]. The letter is truly beautiful and comprehensive and I think the person who wrote it – if he [Abbas] didn’t write it himself – specializes in writing Christmas letters. Each of its paragraphs has a specific topic and one of the topics is that Jesus was a Palestinian and that the Christian faith started specifically in Bethlehem and spread to the rest of the world.”
Abbas' Christmas speech: Jesus was “a Palestinian messenger”
Source: WAFA news agency, Dec. 23, 2013
Ma’an, an independent Palestinian news agency and Wafa, the official Palestinian Authority news agency, both reported on Abbas’ Christmas speech 2013. Wafa in English and Ma’an in Arabic. Both referred to Jesus as “a Palestinian messenger."
“President Mahmoud Abbas Monday said in his Christmas message that millions of Palestinians are still denied the right to worship in their homeland… In Bethlehem, more than 2,000 years ago, Jesus Christ was born; a Palestinian messenger who would become a guiding light for millions around the world. As we Palestinians strive for our freedom two millennia later, we do our best to follow his example. We work with hope, seeking justice, in order to achieve a lasting peace.”

Abbas calls on the Arab nation to “protect Jerusalem, restore it and purify its holy places”
Source: Official PA daily, Al-Hayat Al-Jadida, June 6, 2013
Excerpt from PA Chairman Mahmoud Abbas’ speech about Jerusalem, at the fourth International Islamic Conference which took place in Ramallah:
“Today, 46 years ago, Jerusalem fell under Israeli occupation and Israel began a rolling plan for changing the geographic and demographic character of the holy city, by demolishing the homes of Jerusalem’s residents, systematically expelling them from their place of birth and preventing the construction of houses or the development of economic interests. At the same time there is the frenzied settling rampage and falsification of facts, names and terrain. They [the Israelis] change names. They think that the signs they put up to change Jerusalem’s, Jericho’s or Nablus’ names also change history. No one can change history. The purpose of all this is to isolate the city from its Palestinian surroundings and to work towards emptying it of its residents or at least towards reducing their numbers to a minimum, so that the majority of the city will become Israeli…
This land is our land and they must uproot their settlements for there to be peace.
However, all these bad years of occupation, settlement, exploitation, frenzied Judaizing schemes… did not lessen the Palestinians’ devotion to their eternal capital…
We emphasize from here, from our religious, historical and political awareness that the responsibility for protecting Jerusalem, restoring it and purifying its holy places, rests not only upon the Palestinians. It rests upon the whole Arab, Islamic and Christian nation…”
Abbas: Israeli actions “indicate an evil plot to destroy Al-Aqsa and build the alleged Temple”
Source: Al-Watan (Saudi Arabia), June 3, 2013
PA Chairman Mahmoud Abbas in an interview to the Saudi paper Al-Watan:
Q: “Jewish organizations are making frantic efforts, both visible and hidden, to complete the Judaizing of the Al-Aqsa [Mosque] and to take control of it, especially following the recurring invasions of Al-Aqsa and the attacks on worshippers (the mere presence of Jews on the Temple Mount is considered an "invasion." However, all visitors are subject to rigorous security checks by Israeli security guards before being granted access to the Temple Mount. - Ed.). What affect do you think this has [both] on the Palestinian level and on the regional level? And do you think that the Arab and Islamic responses are at the adequate level?
A: “We’ve said on several occasions that Al-Aqsa is in danger because the excavations Israel is conducting in the Haram (i.e., the Temple Mount) and beneath its foundations put it in danger of collapse. Likewise, preventing West Bank Palestinian worshippers from entering the Mosque and giving radical Jews free rein to enter its courtyards and conduct their religious ceremonies – all these acts indicate an evil and dangerous plot to destroy Al-Aqsa and build the alleged Temple. Unfortunately, these dangers, which are clear for everyone to see, have yet to receive proper Arab, Islamic and international responses. Most countries have not implemented the Arab and Islamic Summit’s resolutions for providing assistance to Jerusalem’s residents and institutions."

Abbas acknowledges Israel is land of three monotheistic faiths
Source: Official PA daily, Al-Hayat Al-Jadida, May 26, 2013
In Abbas’ speech at the World Economic Forum in Jordan, Abbas acknowledges Judaism as one of the three monotheistic religions connected to the land of Israel. This contrasts with usual PA policy, which denies or omits Judaism as a major religion connected to the land:
“Palestine has a spiritual and religious status and an extraordinary geographic location. This is the land of the three monotheistic religions, the land of peace, to which hundreds of millions of people turn…
In a few days 46 years of the occupation of the West Bank, Jerusalem and the Gaza Strip will have passed. After 20 years of negotiations, the Israeli government still deceives, procrastinates, and evades the demands of peace. Nonetheless, we still say that we want a comprehensive and just peace and want to reach the two-state solution, to reside peacefully side by side, in accordance with the legitimate international resolutions, the Road Map and the Arab Peace Initiative. Everyone knows that we have fulfilled all our obligations in accordance with the signed treaties, that we have clarified our positions and intentions and that we have done everything required of us…
I am sending a message from here to our Israeli neighbors – ending the occupation of our land, releasing the prisoners, withdrawing the settlers and settlements, and dismantling the racist separation wall are what will establish peace and ensure security for you and for us. There is still a chance to make this peace, so let’s turn this peace into reality, so that our present and future generations can enjoy its fruits and live in its shade.”
Abbas rep: Israel attempts to “destroy the holy, archeological and historic sites” and "erase ancient national history”

In a speech on behalf of the President of the Palestinian state Mahmoud Abbas, Presidential Bureau Chief Hussein Al-A'araj stressed the importance of the project which he considered ‘a glorious, important, national structure that makes concrete the strong national will to protect Palestine’s name and its national and cultural heritage’ …
Similarly, he [Al-A'araj] was of the opinion that the general Israeli attempts to destroy the holy, archeological and historic sites, and to incorporate the walls of Jerusalem, the Bilal Bin Rabah Mosque (i.e., Rachel’s Tomb) in Bethlehem, and other [sites] under the so-called ‘Israel Antiquities Authority’, are [all] part of the [Israeli] activities to erase ancient [Palestinian] national history. He also declared that everything found on this land is evidence of its antiquity and its ancient and indisputable connection to Islam and Christianity.”
Abbas representative: Jerusalem is Muslim-Christian and will remain “Palestinian-Arab” (not Jewish)

“Secretary General of the Presidential Office, Tayeb Abd Al-Rahim said... in a speech made yesterday evening [April 2, 2013] representing President Mahmoud Abbas at the opening ceremony of the ‘Jerusalem, Eternal City of Arab Culture’ events…

Excerpt from the speech:
‘Declaring Jerusalem the eternal capital of culture provides a strengthening of, and a natural, cultural and historical way of emphasizing the cultural situation in the holy city… This obligates us to double the efforts made to preserve the city’s Muslim-Christian Arab identity and culture… The harm done to Jerusalem‘s historical and cultural identity has received an additional and deeper dimension: The forgery of the city’s religious heritage and the attempt to blur and erase it by making it fit their [the Jews’] myths, claims and false fables... We know how the Israeli authorities enlist intellectuals from different fields; artists, historians, and academics and host them each year so that they will write and compose tales and fables about their dreams regarding the holy city, for the purpose of molding their imaginary narrative and spreading their claim, which is disproved by reality… In the name of Jerusalem, its residents and his Excellency the President [Abbas], I salute you and thank you... Jerusalem will remain Palestinian-Arab... These occupiers – besieging it now – must learn their lesson from the invaders who preceded them, for Jerusalem knew us before it knew those invaders. Know that while you learned to love it by force through fables, we were nursed on love for it [Jerusalem] through our mothers' milk. You will recognize the truth just as did the invaders who preceded you, for we hold the right, Jerusalem is ours and we will restore its eternal splendor among us, as it has been throughout history.’”

Abbas: Israel is working to “damage Al-Aqsa Mosque and holy Christian and Muslim sites”
Source: Official PA daily, Al-Hayat Al-Jadida, Mar. 27, 2013
From Abbas’ full speech before the Arab Summit:
“On the topic of Jerusalem, the Israeli occupation is working methodically and diligently to Judaize East Jerusalem and to alter its character, to uproot its Palestinian residents and damage the Al-Aqsa mosque and holy Christian and Muslim sites. Therefore, there is no other option but Arabic-Islamic activity towards the UN and international organizations in order to prevent the Israeli occupation from carrying out its destructive plans against Jerusalem, its history, culture, landmarks and archeological, religious and spiritual relics…
Another pressing matter that occupies every Palestinian home, oh brother leaders, is the matter of our brave sons and daughters imprisoned in the Israeli occupation’s prisons, who are suffering serious violations, especially the hunger striking [prisoners]. Our duty is to act to save their lives from the claws of the despised Israeli prison and jailer.”
Abbas: Christians and Muslims are “the original residents of Jerusalem”
Source: Official PA daily, Al-Hayat Al-Jadida, Jan. 22, 2013
PA Chairman Mahmoud Abbas addressed the Third Arab Economic and Social Development Summit in Riyadh in January 2013:
“My brothers, Jerusalem is in grave danger, and the danger to Al-Aqsa and our Islamic and Christian holy places is even graver. The occupation government’s actions are intended to make the original residents of Jerusalem, Christians and Muslims, into a minority in their own city. This [is done] by oppressing them with heavy taxes and [other] activities of seizing [of land], occupation, demolitions of houses, closing the city off to its residents and isolating it from its Palestinian Arab surroundings. And there is no need to mention the racist isolation and separation wall that is strangling the city as part of the plans to Judaize it and sever its ties to its historic Arab and Islamic identity.

All of Israel’s actions in Jerusalem and the Al-Aqsa Mosque... will not negate the fact that the city, its Al-Aqsa [Mosque], its Dome of the Rock and its churches are Arab – Islamic and Christian... and will not produce a [Jewish] right based and illusions and legends… There will be no peace, security, or stability unless the occupation [Israel], its settlements and settlers will be evacuated from our holy city and the eternal capital of our state."

Abbas' advisor: Israel creates an artificial Jewish heritage in Jerusalem, whose "authentic identity" is Arab
Source: Official PA daily, Al-Hayat Al-Jadida, Apr. 25, 2012
"Advisor on Jerusalem affairs to the Palestinian President's Office, Ahmed Al-Ruweidi... said: 'Israel is managing to seize the land in the city; at the same time, the chances of maintaining its Arab and Islamic identity are small, since the occupation authorities are carrying out the 2020 plan, which is meant to establish the Jewishness of Jerusalem and to create a new and fabricated facade with an artificial heritage... about Jewish existence in Jerusalem... It is not befitting a city with the importance of Jerusalem, with what it represents, that it should continue to be subject to occupation... and that there should be repeated, ongoing attempts to change its geographical, demographic and cultural characteristics, and to create an artificial heritage with a Jewish spirit at the expense of its true and authentic [identity] as an Arab, Islamic and Christian city.'"
