PA daily: “A Martyr and three prisoners are the harvest of this Jihadist mother, who stood firm and fought”
“With hidden grief concealed by her strength and resolve, Um Adel recounted the story of her children, saying: ‘My son Musa is a Martyr (Shahid) from the [Izz A-Din] Al-Qassam Brigades (Hamas’ military wing). At the time, he was an engineer of explosive belts, and he died a Martyr in 1991 at the age of 23, while an explosive belt exploded during production.’
She tried to control herself and stop her tears. She fell silent, and in her eyes, a tear appeared: ‘Nasser is 36. The occupation arrested him in 2003 after he was [declared] wanted, and he received four life sentences and twenty years. He went on hunger strike together with 10 other prisoners, demanding unity between Fatah and Hamas, so that the homeland and the prisoners would be the focus of attention. Muhammad is 25, and he was wanted for his activity in the Al-Aqsa [Martyrs’] Brigades (Fatah’s military wing). The occupation forces arrested him in 2005, after he had been besieged in the Muqata’a (PA Presidential Headquarters) in Jericho, and was sentenced to 12 years in prison.”
A Martyr, life sentences and [additional] years, and the eyes of Um Adel sparkle with resolve; the wrinkles of her face tell of the pain of separation, and she continues her story: ‘My son Khaled is another story. He is 37 and is partially paralyzed. He received 10 life sentences, and is in severe medical condition. At her side sat Abu Adel, and he tried to complete the sentences cut short by Um Adel’s tears, his own eyes heavy with concern and grief… ‘I thank Commission of Prisoners’ and Released Prisoners' Affairs Director [and PA Parliament Member] Issa Karake for his visit to our home, for his help and his interest in our condition, and I call on all Palestinian officials from the [various] factions to take responsibility for the release of the prisoners and reveal the occupation’s crimes against them.’”
Notes: Nasser Al-Shawish is serving four life sentences for his responsibility for three suicide bombing attacks, one of which took place in central Jerusalem in 2002, killing 3 civilians.
Muhammad Al-Shawish was a member of the Al-Aqsa Martyrs’ Brigades (Fatah’s military wing). He was involved in shooting attacks in 2001-2002 and was sentenced to 11 years in prison.
Khaled Al-Shawish is serving 11 life sentences for orchestrating the killing of Israeli citizens Benjamin and Talia Kahana in 2000 and for involvement in suicide bombings and shootings of Israeli citizens.
