Abbas and Fatah celebrate 30th anniversary of release of prisoners, including terrorist murderers

Headline: “Under the auspices of the President [Mahmoud Abbas], honoring of released [prisoners] from the 1985 exchange deal, on the 30th anniversary”
“Today [May 26, 2015], Tuesday afternoon, for the first time since their release 30 years ago, the Released Prisoners’ Forum (i.e., private organization) and brothers of the Democratic Front (i.e., political party, member of the PLO), under the auspices of President Mahmoud Abbas, organized a unique event that hasn’t taken place in 30 years – the honoring of the veteran prisoners and the Martyrs (Shahids) among them, who were released in the 1985 exchange deal (i.e., Jibril Agreement, see note below). The honorary [ceremony] for the prisoners took place in the Red Crescent Hall in Tel Al-Hawa in Gaza…
Head of the Released Prisoners’ Forum and member of the Fatah leadership, released [prisoner] Ibrahim Alyan, delivered President Mahmoud Abbas’ written speech and the President’s greetings to the group of self-sacrificing fighters (Fedayeen), these venerable heroes. Likewise, he sent his [the President’s] blessings to all our people in Gaza who stand firm, and to all the sons [of the Palestinian people] held in prisons, and those who were released from the prisons in this deal and in all the deals made through the exchange of soldiers or political pressure. Alyan expressed his appreciation for the efforts of the general leadership that carried out the deal, and to the Fatah movement, which kidnapped the soldiers. Alyan emphasized that this deal, and earlier and later deals, are a source of pride to us and to our history, and that the release of prisoners in every way is a national and religious obligation and basic principle from which we cannot back down. ‘We announce to all our prisoners who stand firm in the prisons that your freedom is nearer than at any time, and you will undoubtedly be released as the rest of the heroes like you were released.’”

Note: The Jibril Agreement was a deal between the Israeli government and the terrorist organization the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine (PFLP), led by Ahmed Jibril. On May 21, 1985, Israel released 1,150 Palestinian prisoners, including terrorist murderers, in exchange for three Israeli soldiers who had been taken hostage by the PFLP.
