Abbas’ speech in Turkey: The Palestinian Nakba began “in 1917 (i.e., with the Balfour Declaration) and continues until this day”
Source: WAFA, official PA news agency, May 24, 2016
This speech was actually given by PA Foreign Minister Ryad Al-Malki in the name of Abbas. However this is not mentioned in the WAFA article or in the next day’s Al-Hayat Al-Jadida. A last minute change might have caused a change in speakers.

Headline: “[PA] President [Mahmoud Abbas]: Despite the occupation and a lack of resources, we are doing what is required of us in everything connected to international humanitarian aid”

Excerpt of speech by PA Chairman Mahmoud Abbas at the First International Summit on Humanitarian Activity on May 24, 2016, in Istanbul, Turkey

“Ensuring the existence of international collective political will to implement the decisions of international institutions – which call to find a comprehensive and just political solution to the Palestinian issue –is the first and basic stage on the way to ending all aspects of the Palestinian people’s tragedy.

As a result of it, the Palestinian people’s Nakba (i.e., “the catastrophe,” the Palestinian term for the establishment of the State of Israel) was caused, which started to be carried out in 1917 (i.e., with the Balfour Declaration) and continues until this day.

Ladies and gentlemen, approximately 6 million of our people are still refugees and uprooted, living in their places of refuge in neighboring states and within Palestine.'

Source: Official PA daily, Al-Hayat Al-Jadida, Apr. 13, 2016
Headline: "The Gandhi of the Arabs"

Excerpt of editorial in Al-Hayat Al-Jadida

In meetings and interviews with foreign audiences, Abbas frequently expresses that peace is the only option for the Palestinians. However, as PMW has documented, this is rarely the message PA leaders present to Palestinians

"Yesterday [April 2, 2016] President Mahmoud Abbas received at the presidential headquarters a delegation of the honorable Druze who came from the Galilee and Carmel in order to express exceptional patriotic support of the president, his wise policy, and his realistic discourse – the peace discourse, which we will not forego or forsake…

So much so, that the head of the delegation, Sheikh Zidan Al-Atsheh described President Abbas as Gandhi of the Arabs'…

I n his words/statement to the delegation of our people the Druze, President Abbas emphasized that the discourse of peace will remain the discourse of Palestine… and that he will not fear condemnations due to this discourse, and will continue it without hesitation, just as he does not fear the arguments of those with populist slogans – those who fear and evade the truth and lie about what they call 'knife operations,' (i.e., stabbing attacks) which we do not want our children to be dragged into. After all, there is no sensible person who encourages such acts, as they have no connection to the true resistance, that which

"[PA] President Mahmoud Abbas received a Romanian media delegation yesterday [April 5, 2016] at the presidential headquarters in Ramallah… The president again emphasized his demand to reestablish the three-way committee to monitor incitement that would include the Palestinian and Israeli sides, in addition to the American side, and which was established 15 years ago. He said: 'We have no opposition to the establishment of a committee to monitor the incitement of the two sides, and the moment the Israeli side agrees to this committee, we are ready to participate in it.' … Likewise, he stressed that the Palestinians are against the Israeli occupation, and not against the Jewish religion, which is one of the monotheistic religions that Islam obligates us as Muslims to recognize, and to believe in its messengers. The president again emphasized that our hands are extended toward peace and we are striving to achieve it, and we are against all forms of terror and extremism, whatever their source. In addition, he noted that a fair solution to the Palestinian issue will contribute to the ending of terror and extremism, and steal away the extremists' excuse."

Therefore, we are trying to hold dialogue with all groups of the Israeli society.’ Likewise, he noted that he makes sure to meet with the Jewish communities in every city in the world in order to discuss the common base for the establishment of peace, as there is no other option, and that none of us can cancel the other’s existence, come what may…"

Abbas: Terror wave happening in part because of “attacks” against “holy sites,” especially Al-Aqsa Mosque; Palestinians “paying a heavy price… from the blood of its sons”
Source: Official PA daily, Al-Hayat Al-Jadida, Jan. 29, 2016
“The following is the text of the president’s [Abbas’] speech before the Djibouti National Assembly:
“Brother president, brothers and sisters, I have come to you from Palestine and Jerusalem’s environs, where our people is engaged in a bitter conflict with the Israeli occupation, and is paying a heavy price [in order to obtain] freedom and independence, from the blood of its sons who are defending their honor, the honor of their Arab and Islamic nation, the holy places of Islam and Christianity, and the pure land.
These days, the Palestinian territories are witness to a state of agitation and tension (this refers to a wave of Palestinian terror attacks since September 2015 –Ed.) due to hopelessness and despair among the young, and the closure of the political horizon that does not herald a better future and a way out of the current situation, which is a result of the continued occupation and attacks against the Islamic and Christian holy sites in Jerusalem, particularly against the Al-Aqsa Mosque."
Day after murder of Israeli mother of 6, Abbas: “We are against spilling of blood… our resistance will remain peaceful”
Source: Official Palestinian Authority TV, Jan. 18, 2016
The day after 15-year-old Palestinian terrorist Morad Adais stabbed 38-year-old Israeli Dafna Meir to death in her home in the town of Otniel, south of Hebron, in front of her children, Abbas maintained that the Palestinian "resistance" is “peaceful,” thus denying the many shooting and stabbing attacks in which dozens of Israelis have been murdered and wounded.
Official PA TV live broadcast from the Armenian Theophany (anniversary of Jesus Christ's baptism) celebrations in Bethlehem, where PA Chairman Mahmoud Abbas gave a speech:
PA Chairman Mahmoud Abbas: “We are against spilling of blood, the blood of any human being. Their sex, race, or religion make no difference to us. A human being is a human being… We are all human beings, and therefore we make every effort to prevent the spilling of a drop of anyone's blood. Therefore we say to our brothers and people: We are in a state of despair, and we know that the doors are shut before us, and that the Israeli leadership is trying to shut all doors, but our resistance will remain peaceful, and we will never ask to do anything different. On the contrary, every day we have 3 or 4 Martyrs (Shahids), without any reason or justification.”

Morad Adais – 15-year-old Palestinian terrorist who stabbed 38-year-old Israeli Dafna Meir to death in front of her children in her home in Otniel, south of Hebron, on Jan. 17. 2016. Adais was apprehended and arrested after two days by Israeli security forces.

Abbas to Europeans about Jews: “We are neighbors and we will be friends in the future… We are absolutely not against the Jewish religion… [it] is an honorable religion and we all honor it”
Source: Official Palestinian Authority TV, Dec. 22, 2015

Abbas addressing Greek Parliament:
"A racist separation fence was built and continues to be built between us and the Israelis. We do not want a fence to separate us. We want a bridge that will connect us. We are neighbors and we will be friends in the future. What can prevent this? By the way, we are absolutely not against the Jewish religion, and we cannot be against the Jewish religion. The Jewish religion is an honorable religion and we all honor it, appreciate it and recognize its sanctity. Our problem is with the Zionist occupation."

He continued: ‘We told everyone that we are interested in peaceful uprising and that is what it is. Abbas to Indian president: “Our hands are outstretched for peace” and current unrest is result of “Israeli settlers and forces’ acts of aggression”
Source: Official PA daily, Al-Hayat Al-Jadida, Oct. 13, 2015
In this article about Abbas’ meeting with the President of India, Abbas claims that the Palestinian terror surge that began in October 2015 was caused by Israel’s “acts of aggression against the Palestinian people.” This is not the first time Abbas has denied responsibility for the terror wave. Despite almost daily attacks against Israelis, including stabbings, shootings, and run-over attacks, Abbas stated in October that "the Palestinian side... did not do anything against the Israelis." [Official PA TV, Oct. 6, 2015 and Al-Hayat Al-Jadida, Oct. 7, 2015]

Headline: “President [Abbas]: ‘India can do a lot for the peace’”
“President Mahmoud Abbas said... at a dinner held yesterday [Oct. 13, 2015] in honor of Palestine’s guest, President of India Pranab Mukherjee, that India is an important power in the international arena and can do a lot for peace in this land [Palestine] and in our region, as it plays an exceptional regional and international role.
The president stated: ‘I briefed his honor on the recent developments and events in our country, and the violence and unrest it is experiencing, which we never wished for, and that are a result of the Israeli settlers and forces’ acts of aggression against our people, young men and women, children, property and holy sites, especially in East Jerusalem, the capital of our Palestinian state.’  He added: “We emphasized to his honor that our hands are outstretched for peace with our neighbors, peace that will be achieved by ending the occupation of our country, in accordance with UN resolutions and the Arab peace initiative, and implementation of the agreements signed by the two sides, and this is what we strive to achieve in peaceful and legal ways.’”
Abbas at UN: Israel has "plans to undermine the Islamic and Christian sanctuaries in Jerusalem, particularly its actions at the Al-Aqsa Mosque"
Source: UN's website, Sept. 30, 2015
Opening of Abbas' speech at the UN on Sept. 30, 2015:
PA Chairman Abbas: "I come before you today from Palestine, compelled to sound the alarm about the grave dangers of what is happening in Jerusalem, where extremist Israeli groups are committing repeated, systematic incursions upon Al-Aqsa Mosque, aimed at imposing a new reality and dividing Al-Haram Al-Sharif temporally, allowing extremists, under the protection of Israeli occupying forces and accompanying ministers and Knesset members, to enter the Mosque at certain times, while preventing Muslim worshipers from accessing and entering the Mosque at those times and freely exercising their religious rights.
This is the scheme that the Israeli government is pursuing, in direct violation of the status quo since before 1967 and thereafter. By doing so, the occupying power is committing a grave mistake, because we will not accept this, and the Palestinian people will not allow the implementation of this illegal scheme, which is aggravating the sensitivities of Palestinians and Muslims everywhere. I call on the Israeli government, before it is too late, to cease its use of brutal force to impose its plans to undermine the Islamic and Christian sanctuaries in Jerusalem, particularly its actions at Al-Aqsa Mosque, for such actions will convert the conflict from a political to religious one, creating an explosive in Jerusalem and in the rest of the occupied Palestinian territory."

Headline: "The president [Abbas] called to provide protection to the holy places of Islam and Christianity in Jerusalem at the inauguration of the Moscow Cathedral Mosque"
"President of the State of Palestine Mahmoud Abbas called on the international community to provide protection to the holy places of Christianity and Islam in Jerusalem and ensure the freedom of religion, as it existed before the Israeli occupation of Jerusalem in 1967, especially at the Al-Aqsa Mosque.
His honor stated during his speech today, Wednesday, [Sept. 23, 2015], at the inauguration of the Moscow Cathedral Mosque in the presence of President of Russia Vladimir Putin and President of Turkey Recep Tayyip Erdoan, together with Arab and Islamic delegations and international personalities: 'The systematic aggression against the blessed Al-Aqsa Mosque, the first direction of prayer and the third holiest [Islamic] sanctuary, in occupied East Jerusalem, the capital of the State of Palestine, cannot serve peace, coexistence and tolerance between the religions and nations. It provides an additional excuse for extremists around the world who use religions in their terror and their aggression against humanity.'
His honor emphasized that the Al-Aqsa Mosque belongs to Muslims only, and it is the right of every Muslim in the world to visit it and hold religious ceremonies in its plaza. In addition, he expressed his strong opposition to any measure taken by the occupation, aimed at limiting Muslims' access to it and preventing them from holding their ceremonies freely inside it."
