PA Mufti Muhammad Hussein
Sheikh Muhammad Hussein is PA Mufti and speaker at the Al-Aqsa Mosque, the highest religious official in the Palestinian Authority. He was appointed by Chairman Mahmoud Abbas.

At an event celebrating the anniversary of the founding of Fatah, Hussein presented the killing of Jews by Muslims as a religious Islamic goal. He cited the Hadith (Islamic tradition attributed to Muhammad) which states that the Hour of Resurrection will not come until Muslims fight the Jews and kill them:

Moderator at Fatah ceremony: "Our war with the descendants of the apes and pigs (i.e., Jews) is a war of religion and faith. Long Live Fatah!
[I invite you,] our honorable Sheikh."
PA Mufti, Muhammad Hussein: "47 years ago the [Fatah] revolution started. Which revolution? The modern revolution
of the Palestinian people’s history.
In fact, Palestine in its entirety is a revolution,
since [Caliph] Umar came [to conquer Jerusalem, 637 CE],
and continuing today, and until the End of Days.
The reliable Hadith (tradition attributed to Muhammad),
in the two reliable collections, Bukhari and Muslim, says:
'The Hour [of Resurrection] will not come until you fight the Jews.
The Jew will hide behind stones or trees.
Then the stones or trees will call:
"Oh Muslim, servant of Allah, there is a Jew behind me, come and kill him."
Except the Gharqad tree [which will keep silent].'
Therefore it is no wonder that you see Gharqad [trees]
surrounding the [Israeli] settlements and colonies.
[Gharqad trees] surrounding, surrounding and surrounding.
That’s the Palestine we are talking about,
with the beginning of the Jihad and the continuation of the Jihad
with the struggle and the procession of the Martyrs."
[PA TV (Fatah), Jan. 9, 2012]

This is not the only time that the Mufti has incited to murder and hatred against Jews in the name of Islam. At a funeral ceremony for terrorists, the Mufti promoted terror against Israel, saying that the terrorists’ souls “tell us to follow in their path.” [PA TV (Fatah), May 31, 2012]

He has preached on numerous occasions that Islam is at war with Jews and Israel. In a sermon at the Al-Aqsa Mosque in 2010, he preached that the Jews are the "enemies of Allah." [Al-Hayat Al-Jadida, June 26, 2010] He has also repeatedly called on Palestinians to carry out Ribat (religious conflict/war) for Jerusalem and the Al-Aqsa Mosque, as in the following example:

"The Mufti of Jerusalem and speaker at the Al-Aqsa Mosque, Sheikh Muhammad Hussein, praised the residents' response to calls to come to the Al-Aqsa Mosque and to maintain Ribat (religious conflict/war)... His honor [Hussein] appealed yesterday to the Ribat fighters in the Al-Aqsa plazas and emphasized that the practical response to the threats of the occupation… against the Al-Aqsa Mosque is to remain there, in large numbers…”
[Al-Hayat Al-Jadida, Feb. 13, 2012]

The following section documents the PA Mufti’s hate speech against Israel, Israelis and Jews:

In the Friday sermon the grand mufti also reviewed the aggression and violations against the Al-Aqsa Mosque, which are being committed before the eyes and ears of the world. PA Mufti: “Extremist Jewish Temple organizations” are carrying out attacks against the Al-Aqsa Mosque, which heralds “religious war”
Source: WAFA, official PA news agency, Apr. 3, 2017
Headline: “The [PA] grand mufti warned against the call to invade the Al-Aqsa Mosque and defile it”
“[PA] Grand Mufti of Jerusalem and the Palestinian Territories and preacher at the Al-Aqsa Mosque Sheikh Muhammad Hussein warned against the calls of those who are called ‘the extremist Jewish Temple organizations’ to invade the blessed Al-Aqsa Mosque and participate in an event called ‘offering the Passover holiday sacrifice,’ which they intend to hold in the area of the Umayyad palaces adjacent to the Al-Aqsa Mosque ( See note below –Ed.)…
He explained that continuing the attack against the sites that are holy to the Palestinians, and prime among them the blessed Al-Aqsa Mosque, turns the region into a ticking bomb and heralds an imminent religious war, which will have results whose scope and consequences are unforeseeable, and he held the occupation authorities fully responsible for this.”

"Extremist Jewish Temple organizations" refer to religious Jewish movements including The Temple Mount Institute, The Temple Mount Heritage Foundation, The Initiative for Jewish Freedom on the Temple Mount and Students for the Temple Mount, which spread awareness of the importance of the Temple Mount in Judaism and encourage people to visit the site.
Preceding the Passover holiday in April 2017, the Temple Mount Institute petitioned the Israeli High Court of Justice to practice the Passover sacrifices at the Davidson Center just south of the Temple Mount, but the petition was rejected by the court.

The PA and its leaders consider all of the Temple Mount an integral part of the Al-Aqsa Mosque. Therefore they view any presence of Jews on the mount as an “invasion.” It should be noted that Jews who visit the Temple Mount only enter some sections of the open areas, and do not enter the Al-Aqsa Mosque or the Dome of the Rock.

[The fatwa] emphasized that the blessed Al-Aqsa Mosque belongs to all of the Muslims worldwide, and not only to the Palestinian people…
(The following is text from the Fatwa –Ed.)
‘The blessed Al-Aqsa Mosque belongs to all of the Muslims worldwide, and not only to the Palestinian people. This divine right is valid and exists until Judgement Day, and therefore there is no place for compromising on it, holding negotiations about it, and conceding one grain of soil [from the Al-Aqsa Mosque plaza].’”

"[PA] Grand Mufti of Jerusalem and the Palestinian Territories and blessed Al-Aqsa Mosque preacher Sheikh Muhammad Hussein condemned what is called the Muezzin Law, which was approved by the Israeli occupation authorities in a first reading [in the Israeli Parliament].
He said in a statement from the Dar Al-Ifta (lit. house of religious ruling – the Jerusalem Mufti’s office –Ed.) today, Thursday [March 9, 2017], that the attack against the mosques comes as part of a planned policy. He explained that the mosques in all of Palestine, and particularly in Jerusalem, are being subjected to a fierce attack by the occupation authorities as part of the extremism they use to harm the holy sites. This is so, whether by ongoing attacks against them or by burning them, destroying them, or closing them with false excuses…
[PA Minister of Religious Affairs Yusuf] Ida’is demanded that the international community, with its states, governments, bodies, and relative organizations, intervene to stop these attacks against the mosques, and particularly the blessed Al-Aqsa Mosque… He also described this decision as racist and held the occupation authorities responsible for the consequences that are liable to lead to a religious war that will burn the whole region."

[Hussein] emphasized in a statement yesterday [Jan. 30, 2017,] that the Al-Aqsa Mosque is a purely Islamic mosque and no one but the Muslims has a right to it, and only they are allowed to intervene in its affairs. He also emphasized that the mosque has special significance for Muslims worldwide, and the decision to harm it is dangerous and deserving of condemnation by all standards. Regarding this, he mentioned the UNESCO resolution [of Oct. 13, 2016], according to which the blessed Al-Aqsa Mosque belongs to the Muslims and the Israeli occupation has no connection to the mosque, its walls, its plazas, and what is underneath it. In addition, Hussein described Guterres’ statements as ‘severe violations’ and a violation of the international status quo regarding Jerusalem."

PA Mufti Muhammad Hussein: “We say in light of the things that Jerusalem is suffering from, such as declarations and plans, like the plans of US President [Donald Trump] who promised during his election campaign to transfer the American embassy to Jerusalem... We must say that keeping this promise holds great dangers and a concern of severe complications that only Allah knows where they will lead. How can the Palestinian people, which has made many sacrifices, which has sacrificed processions of Martyrs (Shahids) one after the other, and which has given for the goal thousands of prisoners, the students of freedom who defend the fundamentals of the noble people, our people who is engaged in Jihad and Ribat (i.e., religious conflict/war over land claimed to be Islamic), our people and our leadership and all members of our people will not be silent if this promise is kept and the American president transfers the embassy to Jerusalem. We say to the American president and to the entire world, Jerusalem has a people, and it has residents, and it has a nation [that will stand by it]. Even if there are people who will not take the appropriate position regarding Jerusalem, all of the Arab and Islamic peoples will in no way agree to Jerusalem being harmed…"

"Grand Mufti of Jerusalem and the Palestinian Territories and preacher at the blessed Al-Aqsa Mosque Sheikh Muhammad Ahmad Hussein called on everyone who can to come to the Al-Aqsa Mosque, especially from Jerusalem and its surroundings and from among the Palestinians of 1948 (i.e., Palestinians living in Israel), to do so, in order to carry out Ribat (i.e., religious conflict/war over land claimed to be Islamic) and pray there in order to stop those who wish to defile and attack it. This is due to the measures being taken by the occupation against it and those who visit it, and the ban on those [Palestinians who are] 50 and under to enter it."

The PA and its leaders consider all of the Temple Mount an integral part of the Al-Aqsa Mosque. Therefore they view any presence of Jews on the mount as an "invasion." It should be noted that Jews who visit the Temple Mount only enter some sections of the open areas, and do not enter the Al-Aqsa Mosque or the Dome of the Rock.

Likewise, they are trying in vain to find their fake history under them, similar to the destructive excavations taking place under the walls of the blessed Al-Aqsa Mosque.”

Along with this, they again condemned the fact that [Israel] holds the Martyrs’ bodies, an example of the most despicable crime committed against mankind, ethics, religion, and law in our modern world, and they asked of Supreme, Almighty Allah that He receive the Martyrs alongside the prophets, righteous, Martyrs, and those who speak the truth.”

Likewise, he emphasized that the Al-Buraq Wall is the western wall of the Al-Aqsa Mosque plaza, and is an inseparable part of the mosque, and everything facing this wall from the west, north or south is no other than an Islamic waqf that belongs only to the Muslims.”
PA Mufti: Murabitin who fight Israeli soldiers at Al-Aqsa Mosque are "fulfilling their obligation" and protecting mosque from "those who seek to harm it"
Source: Official PA daily, Al-Hayat Al-Jadida, Sept. 29, 2015
“At least 20 Palestinians were injured yesterday [Sept. 28, 2015] during confrontations that broke out after the break-in to the Al-Aqsa Mosque by the special forces of the occupation, which attacked the Murabitin (those carrying out Ribat, religious conflict/war to protect land claimed to be Islamic) and worshippers with stun grenades and rubber bullets… About 80 young people have closed themselves in and carried out Ribat in the Al-Aqsa Mosque since two nights ago... Dozens of masked people were seen throwing rocks at the occupation forces. A number of them succeeded in reaching the roof of the museum and the Mughrabi Gate Mosque (i.e., the mosque on the eastern part of the Temple Mount) and throwing rocks on soldiers and Jewish citizens under the [Western] Wall. Likewise, the police surveillance cameras recorded the throwing of Molotov cocktails at the biblical garden near the Mughrabi Gate…
[PA] Mufti of Jerusalem and the Palestinian Territories and preacher in the Al-Aqsa Mosque Sheikh Muhammad Hussein warned of the severe consequences of the repeated break-ins of the settlers to the blessed Al-Aqsa Mosque plaza under protection of the Israeli occupation forces, and [of the consequences of] the attacks against worshippers and Murabitin there. He saluted the protectors of the blessed Al-Aqsa Mosque and its Murabitin for fulfilling their obligation by protecting the place to where their Prophet [Muhammad] traveled, and urged everyone who can to come to the blessed Al-Aqsa Mosque, and carry out Ribat and pray in it, in order to deter those who seek to harm it. He emphasized that the occupation’s actions are fuel to the destructive fire that will come.”

PA Mufti and Islamic council warn: Israel's "continued offensive against the Al-Aqsa Mosque warns of a religious war"
Source: Official PA daily, Al-Hayat Al-Jadida, July 24, 2015
“The [Palestinian] Supreme Fatwa Council condemned the escalation of Israeli calls to invade the Al-Aqsa Mosque and hold Talmudic ceremonies (i.e., Jewish prayers) in its pure courtyards. This statement was made during a meeting of the council, led by Grand Mufti of Jerusalem and the Palestinian Territories and Head of the Supreme Fatwa Council Sheikh Muhammad Hussein, in response to the calls of the extremist, so-called ‘Association of the alleged Temple organizations’ to its supporters to carry out group invasions this Sunday [July 26, 2015], the anniversary of the so-called ‘destruction of the Temple’ (i.e., Tisha B’Av). The council regarded this call as a dangerous escalation, and an official declaration of the Al-Aqsa Mosque’s inauguration as a Jewish synagogue, as well as a pilgrimage site for Jews to hold their Talmudic ceremonies (i.e., Jewish prayers) at the expense of its Islamic character, and clarified that the continued offensive against the Al-Aqsa Mosque warns of a religious war.  In addition, it stressed that the Israeli plan to Judaize Jerusalem and the Al-Aqsa [Mosque] or to lay a hand on them is a delusion , as the only ones entitled to the mosque, its courtyards, corridors, and every part of it, are the Muslims... The council urged the citizens and Muslims in the world who can reach the Al-Aqsa [Mosque], to increase their presence in it, in order to assist it to stand firm against the plots against it, and stressed that our people will hold onto their mosque until Allah inherits the land and everything on it, whatever the required sacrifices may be.”

“The [PA] Minister of Religious Affairs, Sheikh Yusuf Ida’is, and [PA] Mufti of Jerusalem and the Palestinian Territories Sheikh Muhammad Hussein, warned against the danger of what has been reported in the media regarding the intentions of those called the alleged Temple organizations to more fervently invade the Al-Aqsa Mosque tomorrow [July 22, 2015], Wednesday, another act in the targeting of the Al-Aqsa Mosque’s independence, and the Muslims’ absolute sovereignty over it... The two emphasized that the escalating dangerous Israeli plots against Jerusalem, which are seen in attempts to interfere in the affairs of the Jerusalem Noble Sanctuary (i.e., the Temple Mount), in increasing excavations under the Al-Aqsa Mosque, under the pretext of searching for alleged antiquities, and in intensive settlement plans in Jerusalem, are an attempt to change the status quo in the Jerusalem Noble Sanctuary. This is in addition to the continuing Judaization of Jerusalem, its full isolation from its geographical surroundings, and the construction of the racist separation fence… Likewise, the two called on the Palestinian people, wherever they may be, to increase their presence in the Al-Aqsa Mosque, in order to foil all the Israeli plots striving to take it over.”

This was after the extremist Temple organizations called on their supporters to organize a Jewish demonstration in front of the Golden Gate (in Jerusalem’s old city walls –Ed.) this Tuesday [July 14, 2015], the 27th of Ramadan, in order to demand that the Al-Aqsa Mosque [compound] be closed to all Muslims during the anniversary of the so-called ‘destruction of the Temple.’ (i.e.,Tisha B’Av – see note). The Mufti considered this call a dangerous escalation, and explained that the continuing attack against the Al-Aqsa Mosque, its desecration, and the encouragement of the extremists to visit it, indicate an impending religious war. In addition, he stated that the calls and the aggressive plans inciting to desecrate the Al-Aqsa Mosque and its courtyards and to harm it have increased during the month of Ramadan. The Mufti called on worshippers from Jerusalem and the 1948 territories (i.e., Israel) and anyone who is able to reach the Al-Aqsa Mosque from across the homeland, to make every effort to visit it and strengthen their presence in it, in order to protect it from the ongoing and increasing attacks against it."

He [Sheikh Muhammad Hussein] noted that they [Israel] had already attacked the Al-Aqsa Mosque in 1996, [at which] the Palestinian people came out against them in what became known as the “Tunnel Uprising” (i.e., the Western Wall tunnel riots, see below), and also in 1996, when they tried to lay the cornerstone for Solomon’s alleged temple, after which the Murabitin (i.e., those carrying out Ribat, religious conflict/war to protect land claimed to be Islamic) came out and confronted them [in clashes] which claimed [the lives] of 20 Martyrs (Shahids). PA Mufti: Israel aspires "to build the alleged Temple

Headline: "Grand Mufti warns of the naming of the Al-Aqsa Mosque 'Temple Mount'"
"[PA] Grand Mufti of Jerusalem and the Palestinian Territories and Preacher at the blessed Al-Aqsa Mosque Sheikh Muhammad Hussein warned about the placement of a sign by the occupation [Jerusalem] municipality near the Council Gate ( i.e., entrance to the Al-Aqsa Mosque on the Temple Mount), with the inscription, 'Temple Mount.' The Mufti said this step came as part of the attempts to divide the blessed Al-Aqsa Mosque between Muslims and Jews, extend their influence over it and establish facts on the ground inside it, like what happened at the Ibrahimi Mosque (i.e., Cave of the Patriarchs) in Hebron, in order to realize their aspirations to build the alleged Temple on the ruins of the blessed Al-Aqsa Mosque.
The Mufti explained that with the elections of the occupation authorities approaching, all the parties are trying to draw the votes of the extreme right by increasing the attack on the Palestinian people and its holy places. He emphasized that the Israeli plan to Judaize Jerusalem and the blessed Al-Aqsa Mosque, and to lay hands on them, is an illusion, because the blessed Al-Aqsa Mosque with its courtyards, porticoes and all [other] parts, both those above ground and those below - is the exclusive right of Muslims. He also noted that Jerusalem would retain its Islamic character and Arab identity, and that the occupation would not steal its character and identity, no matter how long it continues its crimes and its falsification of facts."

“[PA] Grand Mufti of Jerusalem and the Palestinian Territories and Preacher of the Al-Aqsa Mosque Sheikh Muhammad Hussein warned of the severe consequences for the entire region of the intensification of the attacks against the Al-Aqsa Mosque and the increasing invasions of its premises. In addition, he noted that the most recent invasion had been carried out by a group of settlers, archeologists, and senior officials in the Israeli Security Forces and the so-called ‘coalition of Temple organizations,’ under the increased protection of the occupation authorities. The Mufti condemned the threats to carry out large-scale invasions of [the] Al-Aqsa [Mosque] at the beginning of next week on false pretexts that do not fool anyone. He explained that these invasions were taking place parallel to the preparations for elections in Israel, for Al-Aqsa has apparently become a target to be profited from in the elections, with which to satisfy the Israeli public, in which extreme right-wing tendencies have increased. Hussein called on the worshippers from Jerusalem and the Palestinian interior (i.e., Israel) and all those who can come to Al-Aqsa, to increase their presence and [frequency of] their visits there, in order to defend it from the continuous and increasing attacks and violations. During a conference in Ramallah, Al-Habbash called for the Arab and Islamic nation and the world to act immediately to save Al-Aqsa and halt the occupation’s plots… [PA Mufti of Jerusalem and the Palestinian territories] Sheikh Muhammad Hussein emphasized that non-Muslims have no right to interfere in the affairs of Al-Aqsa. He explained that the time has come for Arabs and Muslims to understand the danger surrounding Jerusalem and Al-Aqsa.”

Note: The “physical division and [division] according to time” refers to a proposed law (May 2013) being reviewed in Israeli Parliament that would allow for both Jews and Muslims to pray on the Temple Mount. The law seeks to implement separate prayer times for Muslims and Jews at the site.

PA Mufti Muhammad Hussein: “We always seek justice, call for peace and call to hold on to this land. We will not abandon it. Seeking peace or working for peace will never contradict a person’s adherence to his right and his adherence to his cause, and we must all act accordingly, until Allah makes His ruling (i.e., until Judgment Day). And Allah is omnipotent. It is stated in a Hadith that the honorable Prophet, Allah’s peace and blessings be upon him, said: ‘A group [of people] from among my nation will adhere to their religion and defeat their enemies, they will not be harmed by those who oppose them, until Allah makes His ruling.
We said: ‘Oh Messenger of Allah, where are they?’
He answered: ‘They are in Jerusalem and its surroundings.’”

PA Mufti: Israeli officials call to invade Al-Aqsa Mosque "to build their alleged Temple"
Source: Official PA daily, Al-Hayat Al-Jadida, May 7, 2013
The following article was published in the context of a proposed law (May 2013) being reviewed in Israeli Parliament that would allow for both Jews and Muslims to pray on the Temple Mount. The law seeks to implement separate prayer times for Muslims and Jews at the site. The PA Mufti’s response was to call it an "invasion of the mosque... in order to build their alleged Temple":
Headline: “The [PA] Grand Mufti summons [Muslims] to Al-Aqsa and warns of [Jewish] calls to invade”
"The [PA] Grand Mufti of Jerusalem and the Palestinian territories Sheikh Muhammad Hussein summoned citizens to the Al-Aqsa Mosque in order to fill it and defend it, especially in light of recent threats from extremist settlers and senior Israeli officials who called for an invasion of the mosque and to impose Israeli sovereignty over it in order to build their alleged Temple.
In a press release, Sheikh Hussein warned that the extremists’ actions, supported by the highest political echelons and defended by the occupation authorities, have increased noticeably of late, constituting a threat to the Al-Aqsa Mosque. He added that the occupation authorities are taking advantage of the rift among Palestinians and of the Arab and Muslim engagement [elsewhere,] in order to carry out their plans. He warned that these authorities intend to grab control of the Al-Aqsa Mosque and divide it (i.e., between Jews and Muslims). Also, he called on the Arab nation and the Ummah (Islamic nation) to act effectively before it is too late, in order to save the Al-Aqsa Mosque."

PA Mufti Muhammad Hussein: "That is not a reason."
Host: "Does she have the right [to refuse] according to Shari'ah?"
Mufti: "No. It's his right [to have sex]. Nonetheless, we say to him: You must obey Allah Almighty. Just as you want to satisfy your needs, which are in fact animalistic and impulsive, you must also observe Allah's duties and commandments, which are more important. Nonetheless, it is his right. This woman may not and has no right to deny him this right, especially during the permissible time, which is nighttime."

PA Mufti glorifies terrorists as "noble souls"
Source: Official Palestinian Authority TV, June 6, 2012
PA TV religious program Religion and the World
Topic: The Martyrs (Shahids) who had been buried in numbered graves in Israel and whose bodies were returned to the PA.
Muhammad Hussein, Mufti of Jerusalem and the Palestinian Territories: "We ask of Allah that he let them dwell with the prophets, the speakers of truth, the Martyrs (Shahids), and the pious… Our Palestinian people received these bodies with great honor. The President's Office, and of course the President [Abbas] at its head, received these Martyrs with great honor, and likewise the entire Palestinian leadership and our people, in Ramallah and in all the regions. Every mayor came from his region, along with a group of residents of the region. They took these bodies, celebrated [their arrival] and made a large and dignified reception for them – each Martyr in his region. In truth, this is proof of our Palestinian people's interest in its Martyr sons and its prisoner sons. We say that Allah will have mercy on the Martyrs, because they died for the sake of tremendous goals. Preserving this homeland, and preserving the dignity of the Palestinian people are among the most important aims for which they died. They gave the most exalted thing that a person can give in this world – life. Giving one's life is the greatest giving. They gave up their souls. These noble souls were given for the sake of Allah, for the sake of dignity, for the sake of the homeland, for the sake of all the important values which are embodied in the struggle, the Jihad and the sacrifice of the Palestinian people."

We still have a generous leadership, and we still have a people that has never been sparing and will spare no sacrifice for this blessed land, for this homeland, for Jerusalem and the holy places, and for every inch of the pure land of beloved Palestine. Mufti of Jerusalem praises calls “to maintain Ribat (religious conflict/war defending Islamic land)” in Jerusalem
Source: Official PA daily, Al-Hayat Al-Jadida, Feb. 13, 2012
"The Mufti of Jerusalem and speaker at the Al-Aqsa Mosque, Sheikh Muhammad Hussein, praised the residents' response to calls to come to the Al-Aqsa Mosque and to maintain Ribat (religious conflict/war) in its pure plazas in order to defend it. His honor [Hussein] appealed yesterday to the Ribat fighters in the Al-Aqsa plazas and emphasized that the practical response to the threats of the occupation and the extremist Jewish right-wing against the Al-Aqsa Mosque is to remain there, in large numbers… The Ribat fighters in the Al-Aqsa Mosque squares yesterday sounded shouts of 'Allah Akbar'… Fatah spokesman Osama Al-Qawasmi said in an announcement: 'The Netanyahu government is pushing the region towards a religious struggle whose results no one can gauge…' A press release said: 'Israel knows well that there will be no Palestinian state without Jerusalem, and that the Palestinian leadership has proved to everyone that there will be no solution or stability without the liberation of Jerusalem and the Al-Aqsa Mosque from the Israeli occupation… We have sacrificed thousands of Martyrs (Shahids), prisoners, and injured people in the Al-Aqsa Intifada (the PA terror campaign, 2000-2005), which was kindled by the will of [former Israeli Prime Minister, Ariel] Sharon to invade the Al-Aqsa Mosque. PA Mufti Hussein defends his speech citing Hadith about killing Jews, exposed by PMW
Source: Official Palestinian Authority TV, Feb. 3, 2012
On Jan. 9, 2012, PA Mufti Muhammad Hussein delivered a speech presenting the killing of Jews by as a religious Islamic goal. PMW's exposure of the Mufti's speech brought Israeli and international condemnation of the Mufti and the PA. PA TV program Good Morning Jerusalem interviews PA Mufti Muhammad Hussein concerning Netanyahu's attack on him in the wake of his statements:
PA TV host: "...Unfortunately, there are sometimes reactions to the Prophet’s hadiths (tradition attributed to Muhammad) that are perhaps not understood – specifically your own recent comments in Ramallah that were misunderstood, and that generated a great many responses... Even the Israeli Prime Minister himself intervened in this matter... Firstly, let's clarify for the viewers the nature of what was said..."
Hussein: "Unfortunately, the truth is that this is an honorable Hadith that was brought in the context of a long speech [delivered] at the 47th anniversary of the outbreak of the modern Palestinian revolution. I spoke about our people's problems; I spoke about our people's resolve; and I spoke about our people's suffering, on that occasion. The speech led me, naturally, to talk about this people remaining on this land. It came as a message that this nation will continue to pursue Ribat (religious conflict/war to defend Islamic territory) on this land, and mention was made of this Hadith that, to tell the truth, talks about things which will happen at the End of Days. However, by the nature of things, [if we take] religious texts, and separate them, take them out of context and understand them out of context, then certainly, someone who wants to malign, to create propaganda and to blow things out of proportion – will take a piece of what he wants.

Investigation of PA Mufti for hate speech, exposed by PMW, is a "despicable racist attack" and "incitement"

On Jan. 9, 2012, the principal PA religious leader, Muhammad Hussein, delivered a speech presenting the killing of Jews by as a religious Islamic goal. PMW's exposure of the Mufti's speech brought Israeli and international condemnation of the Mufti and the PA. The following is a response to the controversy by official PA daily columnist Adel Abd Al-Rahman:
"The Mufti of Jerusalem and the Palestinian territories, Sheikh Muhammad Hussein, is currently under a despicable racist attack which has targeted his person and his life…
The racist attack on Sheikh Muhammad has been joined by the president of the Israeli apartheid state, Shimon Peres; Prime Minister of the extremist Zionist right-wing, Netanyahu; and other Zionist racists, who have called upon the Minister of 'Justice', Yaakov Neeman, and the Attorney General, Yehuda Weinstein, to open a legal investigation against [the Mufti] Sheikh Hussein. They argue that he 'expressed himself' during a speech he delivered on the 47th anniversary of the [founding of the] Fatah movement 'with grave statements which could increase the tension in relations between Jews and Arabs, and even lead to loss of life', according to Peres' incitement. As for Netanyahu, he opined that the Mufti of Jerusalem had voiced 'Antisemitic' statements! ...
The Prime Minister of the most racist and aggressive government in the history of the apartheid and ethnic-cleansing state, in the history of Israel, launched an unprecedented campaign of incitement against the Mufti of Jerusalem and the Palestinian territories during the most recent meeting of the Likud faction in the Knesset..."

Speaking to Al-Quds, [the Mufti] Sheikh Hussein rejected the Israeli attack… In an exclusive statement to Al-Quds in response to the decision by Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, to instruct the Attorney General to open an investigation against him [Hussein] on grounds of incitement and Antisemitism, [Hussein] said: 'There is no doubt that all of this turmoil is part of the campaign against Jerusalem, its inhabitants, and its leaders; it is aimed at diverting attention from the actions of the Israeli government and its branches in Jerusalem and in the Palestinian territories – especially the incessant excavations, [the destruction of] the Mughrabi Gate bridge, and the destruction of more Palestinian homes.' ...

Fatah official: Israel is “in a race against time to prove and to perpetuate the Jewishness of Jerusalem”

Headline: "During press conference in the holy city – leaders in Jerusalem warn Israel against going through with the destruction of the Mughrabi Gate path leading to the Al-Aqsa [Mosque] and the building of a military bridge"
"Respected personalities and bodies warned against the Israeli occupation going through with the destruction of the Mughrabi Gate path, leading to the Al-Aqsa Mosque, and establishing a military bridge instead. They viewed the implementation of this occupation plot as an open declaration of war. This was during a press conference held yesterday by the Department of Islamic Religious Trusts in Jerusalem and the Supreme Supervisory Committee of the Arab Community in the Palestinian Interior… In his speech, Mufti Sheikh Muhammad Hussein said: 'Since their occupation of Jerusalem in 1967 and until today, the Israeli authorities have carried out dangerous – very dangerous – activities in Jerusalem in particular, and in the Palestinian territories in general… The Mughrabi neighborhood, including schools, mosques, and homes, was destroyed in the first few days of the Israeli occupation. At the time they extended what they falsely refer to as the Wailing Wall, which is actually the Al-Buraq Wall. This is a prominently Islamic wall, and it is one of the walls of the Al-Aqsa Mosque. It is an Islamic trust and an Islamic asset, and no-one but the Muslims has any right to it.' […]
Hatem Abd Al-Qader [Fatah official who holds the Jerusalem portfolio] said: 'Israel is currently in a race against time to prove and to perpetuate the Jewishness of Jerusalem and to turn it not only into the political capital of the Zionist entity, but also into the religious capital of Jews around the world.'"

[Participants at the ceremony included, Dr. Mahmoud Al-Habbash - Minister of Religious Affairs; Siham Barghouti - Minister of Culture; Sheikh Muhammad Hussein - Mufti of Jerusalem and Palestine; Dr. Hana Issa - senior official of the Ministry of Religious Affairs, responsible for Christian affairs; Dr. Younes Amr, President of the university, and lecturers at the university.]
"[Minister of Culture] Barghouti said: ‘We at the Ministry [of Culture] and at the universities are partners in collating, studying and inscribing the true version of the history and culture of Jerusalem.’ She drew attention to the fact that the Israeli activities do not end with an attempt to harm the character of the holy city, but attempt to erase and to steal its cultural heritage. [The Mufti] Hussein stated that regardless of the occupation’s actions, Jerusalem will remain Arabic-Islamic... [President of Al-Quds University] Amr drew attention to the fact that the Jews’ connection to Jerusalem is no more than the connection of a military occupation."
Mufti of Jerusalem and Palestine: Jews have no right to "Al-Buraq Wall" [Western Wall]
Source: Official Palestinian Authority TV, July 9, 2010
PA TV talk show Good Morning Jerusalem. Interview with the Mufti of Jerusalem and Palestine, Muhammad Hussein:
”They [the Israelis] – in fact, I can say quite unequivocally – are forging history, forging culture, stealing that which exists and attributing it completely to themselves...
We want to say that the Al-Buraq Wall [the Western Wall] is the western wall of the Al-Aqsa Mosque, and it is an integral part of the Al-Aqsa Mosque, as was determined by an international committee [Shaw Report on the 1929 riots], which declared that this wall is a religious trust and an Islamic asset, and part of the Al-Aqsa Mosque, and did not show any right – of either the Jews or others – to this wall. Rather, it is a religious trust and an Islamic asset, part of the Al-Aqsa Mosque. At the same time, they have made changes, and completely destroyed the Mughrabi Gate neighborhood [today the Western Wall Plaza]... This was meant to rid the region of the Al-Aqsa Mosque, in order that afterwards it would be easier to carry out plans related to the Al-Aqsa Mosque, whether destruction of the mosque or the imposition of a new reality at the mosque, in order to build a synagogue or a temple.”
