Jibril Rajoub
Jibril Rajoub is Secretary of the Fatah Central Committee (since Feb. 15, 2017). He is also Head of the Supreme Council for Sport and Youth Affairs, Chairman of the Palestinian Football Association, and Chairman of the Palestinian Olympic Committee. He is a former member of the Fatah Revolutionary Council (until Aug. 2009), the former Deputy-Secretary of the Fatah Central Committee (2009-2017), the former National Security Advisor to Yasser Arafat, rank of Brigadier-General, and the former Head of the West Bank Preventive Security Forces (1994-2002)

Jibril Rajoub was sentenced to life in prison in 1970 for throwing a grenade at an Israeli army truck. He was released in the Jibril Agreement - A deal between the Israeli government and the terrorist organization the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine (PFLP), led by Ahmed Jibril. On May 21, 1985, Israel released 1,150 Palestinian prisoners, including terrorist murderers, in exchange for three Israeli soldiers who had been taken hostage by the PFLP.

In 2015, the PA submitted a request to FIFA to suspend Israel, organized and promoted by Rajoub. PMW published a report, "PA sports: Prohibiting peace and glorifying terror," showing the irony of Rajoub's request, since the PA uses sports to further entrench the conflict with Israel and to send the message that murdering Israeli civilians is honorable and heroic. In 2016 and early 2017, PMW released two reports, "The Jibril Rajoub File" and "The Jibril Rajoub File: Special report for FIFA"  that showed Rajoub's support for terror and opposition to peacebuilding between Israelis and Palestinians.
Fatah official warns of “unprecedented Israeli escalation in settlement, terror, daily invasions of the Al-Aqsa Mosque, and the seizure of the tax money… we will not sell the prisoners, the Martyrs, Jerusalem, or independence for money”
Source: Official PA daily, Al-Hayat Al-Jadida, Feb. 22, 2019
Headline: “Rajoub briefed Aboul Gheit and Shukri on the recent Palestinian developments”
“Fatah Movement Central Committee Secretary Jibril Rajoub briefed Arab League Secretary-General Ahmed Aboul Gheit on the recent developments in the situation, and particularly on the political developments in Palestine… Rajoub said in a statement after the meeting: ‘We as Palestinians are standing before an unprecedented Israeli escalation in settlement, terror, daily invasions of the Al-Aqsa Mosque, and the seizure of the tax money – which is Palestinian money – because of what we provide to the prisoners, Martyrs (Shahids), and their families (refers to Israeli law to deduct terrorist salaries from the PA tax money; see note below –Ed.), which constitutes a permanent matter in our lives since the outbreak of the Palestinian revolution. This will create difficult financial conditions, but we will not sell the prisoners, the Martyrs, Jerusalem, or independence for money.’”

Fatah official Rajoub: “There is an Israeli Auschwitz to massacre Palestinians”

Al-Hadath TV interviewer:
"You've announced that you won't participate [in the Warsaw Conference], and described it as a knife in the back..."
Senior Fatah official Jibril Rajoub: "[If] there will be cocktail parties and toasts with [Israeli Prime Minister] Netanyahu and the Arabs we will indeed view it as a mistake and a knife [in the back]... They are welcoming Netanyahu in Warsaw in order to remind us of the Holocaust and Auschwitz. In every city in Palestine, from Rafah to Jenin, there is an Israeli Auschwitz to massacre Palestinians."

Senior Fatah official Rajoub: Normalization with Israel in sports and economy are taboo
Source: Facebook page of Jibril Rajoub, Secretary of the Fatah Central Committee, Feb. 10, 2019

Senior Fatah official Jibril Rajoub:
"Once again, we hope that the Arab Summit will emphasize that normalization and ties with Israel – as long as Palestine is occupied – are taboo... We do not want to see Israelis in the Arab capitals – not for purposes of sports, not for purposes of economy, not for purposes of cooperation, and so on. As long as the Palestinian state has not been established, this must remain taboo."

Fatah official: Caring for terrorist prisoners is a “sacred obligation,” whose salaries will be harmed “under no circumstances”
Source: Official PA daily, Al-Hayat Al-Jadida, Dec. 4, 2018
“Fatah Movement Central Committee Secretary Jibril Rajoub emphasized in a press statement yesterday [Dec. 3, 2018] that Fatah and its leadership, led by [PA] President Mahmoud Abbas, views the prisoners’ cause, their release, and the care for them and their families as a national responsibility and a sacred obligation that is not subject to debate and must not be neglected… Rajoub added that the magnificent prisoners’ movement will remain – as it always has been – the spearhead of the Palestinian national struggle. He said that our brave prisoners and our released prisoners will continue to be stars of whom we are proud [along with] their families, and we appreciate the great sacrifices that they have made for Palestine… He emphasized… that under no circumstances and under no conditions will their salaries (rawatib) be harmed.”

Fatah official: salaries to terrorists and their families a “national responsibility and sacred obligation,” there will be “no harm… to the salaries”
Source: Official Palestinian Authority TV, Dec. 4, 2018
Official PA TV News, on Fatah Central Committee Secretary Jibril Rajoub emphasizing Fatah’s commitment to paying terrorist prisoners’ salaries

Official PA TV newsreader: “Fatah Movement Central Committee Secretary Jibril Rajoub emphasized that Fatah and the leadership headed by [PA] President Mahmoud Abbas consider the prisoners’ cause, their release, and taking care of their families a national responsibility and sacred obligation that is indisputable and cannot be neglected. Rajoub added that Fatah’s position on this matter is solid, and that there [will be] no harm under any conditions and circumstances to the salaries (rawatib) and payments (istihqaqat) to the prisoners and released prisoners.”

Jibril Rajoub also holds the following positions: Head of the PLO Supreme Council for Sport and Youth Affairs, Chairman of the Palestinian Football Association, Chairman of the Palestine Olympic Committee, and Chairman of the Palestinian Scout Association (PSA).
Op-ed in PA daily asks PMW to pass on threat to Israeli Minister of Public Security
Source: Official PA daily, Al-Hayat Al-Jadida, Oct. 5, 2018
Op-ed in the sports section of the official PA daily by Abd Al-Fattah Arar

"Extremist Israeli Minister [of Public Security] Gilad Erdan sent the International Olympic Committee a letter that testifies to the extent of their hate, and in it he demanded to freeze Chairman of the Palestine Olympic Committee [and Fatah Central Committee Secretary] Jibril Rajoub's membership and Palestine's membership… This is undoubtedly the height of insolence, which testifies to a state of confusion and a pitiful show of muscle. Be assured – and we hope that the unit that monitors the Palestinian media, Palestinian Media Watch, will pass on this message as it has passed on other messages in the past: Everything that you have done, are doing, and will do, and all of the frauds you are concocting, will not cause us to sit by quietly, and will not clear the arena for you to sow ruin and destruction..."

Rajoub: PMW's director is "the Goebbels of the 21st century"
Source: Official PA TV Live, Sept. 3, 2018

Speech by Fatah Central Committee Secretary and Chairman of the Palestinian Football Association Jibril Rajoub at a press conference on Sept. 3, 2018, on the sanctions FIFA imposed on him

Chairman of the Palestinian Football Association and Fatah Central Committee Secretary Jibril Rajoub:
"First of all, they are waging this war on all fronts. There's Palestinian Media Watch, whose director [Itamar Marcus] is Goebbels - Goebbels, Hitler's ideological theorist... He is the Goebbels of the 21st century. He prepared an indictment against me, believe me, [starting] from 1968 when I went into [an Israeli] prison the first time, until today. I traveled to Latin America, and every place I go, believe me, he spreads these accusations. He submitted a complaint to the Olympic Committee (to remove Rajoub from heading the Palestinian committee - Ed.), he submitted a complaint to FIFA (to have Rajoub suspended and fined - Ed.), and when I traveled to the US - he also spread [his accusations] in the US (submitting a complaint to the State Department to have Rajoub's entry prohibited- Ed.). The only thing he does is to deal with me."

Article in official PA daily condemns FIFA suspension of Jibril Rajoub, saying it’s “part of the war that the Israeli occupation is leading against our Palestinian sport”
Source: Official PA daily, Al-Hayat Al-Jadida, Aug. 29, 2018
Headline: "Even FIFA acts in cooperation with the occupation and closes its eyes to [the occupation's] crimes"

"FIFA's politically biased decision, under pressure from ‘the Zionist lobby,' to ban Chairman of the Palestinian Football Association [and Fatah Central Committee Secretary] General Jibril Rajoub from participating in football events (see note below –Ed.) is part of the war that the Israeli occupation is leading against our Palestinian sport. The occupation is targeting the 'head of the sport pyramid' [Jibril Rajoub]. This is a desperate attempt to undermine the power and strength of the strong Palestinian sport."

Jibril Rajoub also holds the following positions: Head of the PLO Supreme Council for Sport and Youth Affairs, Chairman of the Palestine Olympic Committee, and Chairman of the Palestinian Scout Association (PSA).

FIFA imposed sanctions on Chairman of the Palestinian Football Association and Fatah Central Committee Secretary Jibril Rajoub on Aug. 24, 2018, suspending him from attending games for 12 months and fining him 20,000 Swiss francs. This was in response to a detailed complaint submitted by PMW and Rajoub’s actions to thwart a football friendly match between Argentina and Israel in Jerusalem in June 2018, which eventually made Argentina cancel the match. FIFA explained that Rajoub was being punished "for breaching article 53 (Inciting hatred and violence) of the FIFA Disciplinary Code, following media statements he gave calling on football fans to target the Argentinian Football Association and burn jerseys and pictures of Lionel Messi."
The Palestinian Football Association condemns FIFA suspension of its Chairman, Jibril Rajoub, calling it a “racist, fascist, and miserable decision”
Source: Official PA daily, Al-Hayat Al-Jadida, Aug. 27, 2018
Headline: "Prominent figures in the field of sports condemn FIFA's decision against Rajoub and launch a Donate a Dollar campaign"

"The [Amwaj independent radio station's] bureau of information said that the [Palestinian Football] Association announced that it condemns the punishment imposed on [Fatah Central Committee Secretary and Chairman of the Palestinian Football Association] General [Jibril] Rajoub (by FIFA; see note below –Ed.) and views it as a racist, fascist, and miserable decision, which points to shameful bankruptcy on the part of FIFA in its unjust stance alongside the [Zionist] entity, and to it acting unjustly when it compared the murderer to the victim – the Palestinian sport which suffers due to the actions of the hate-ridden occupation…
The youth union The Tomorrow has decided – based on the popular campaign to appeal the FIFA decision – to launch a fundraising campaign to gather donations of one dollar from every member, player, and honorary member for the benefit of the [popular] campaign. Another campaign will also be launched for the children of the region to send a letter to FIFA, in which they will demand the children's rights in the field of sport that the occupation is denying through arrests and the closing of [sports] clubs."

Jibril Rajoub also holds the following positions: Head of the PLO Supreme Council for Sport and Youth Affairs, Chairman of the Palestine Olympic Committee, and Chairman of the Palestinian Scout Association (PSA).

The picture accompanying the article shows people holding a banner with the Amwaj independent radio station logo and the following text on it: "We condemn FIFA's decision against General Jibril Rajoub and against the Palestinian Football Association, as it is a political, unjust, and unsportsmanlike decision."

Fatah: FIFA suspension of Rajoub is an “unfair decision that is biased… politicized, and not based on proper and clear legal principles and foundations”
Source: Official PA daily, Al-Hayat Al-Jadida, Aug. 27, 2018
Headline: "Fatah: FIFA's decision against Rajoub is cruel and politically biased"
"The Fatah Movement opposed the FIFA decision against Chairman of the Palestinian Football Association [and Fatah Central Committee Secretary] Jibril Rajoub (refers to FIFA sanctions against Rajoub for inciting hatred and violence; see note below –Ed.). [Fatah] said that this is an unfair decision that is biased in favor of the Israeli occupation, politicized, and not based on proper and clear legal principles and foundations."

PLO Chief Negotiator condemns FIFA decision to suspend Chairman of the Palestinian Football Association Jibril Rajoub
Source: WAFA, official PA news agency, Aug. 25, 2018
Headline: "Erekat condemns FIFA’s decision against Rajoub and calls on it to reexamine it"

"Secretary of the PLO Executive Committee, [Fatah Central Committee member, and PLO Chief Negotiator] Saeb Erekat condemned the FIFA Disciplinary Committee decision against [Chairman of the Palestinian Football Association and Fatah Central Committee Secretary] Jibril Rajoub (FIFA suspended him for a year and fined him 20,000 Swiss francs for incitement; see note below –Ed.).
In a statement he published today (Saturday) [Aug. 25, 2018], Erekat called on FIFA to reexamine the decision, especially in light of the fact that they did not listen to testimony and did not examine the evidence that Rajoub's legal advisor requested [they examine].

He expressed sorrow that the claims and pressures that groups of settlers applied to FIFA succeeded, while the Palestinian bodies were struggling to rein in the policy of Israel – the occupying power – to politicize sport and abuse it in order to whitewash its illegal actions…

He said: 'We condemn Rajoub's sentence and wonder at it, at a time when six football teams that play in the Israeli league on the land of the occupied State of Palestine, which come from illegal colonial settlements, need to be sentenced."
Palestinian Football Association blames PMW for Rajoub's suspension from FIFA
Source: WAFA, official PA news agency, Aug. 24, 2018
“From the first moment that the FIFA Disciplinary Committee launched a series of proceedings on May 29, 2018, at the request of the Israel Football Association and one of the Israeli extremist right-wing organizations [PMW], it was clear to us that there is a deliberate intent to ban Palestinian Football Association Chairman Jibril Rajoub from being involved in football – something that apparently will not end with this decision, which we find very strange and whose timing we condemn… The Disciplinary Committee decision was based on the claims of an Israeli organization of settlers on the occupied lands (PMW’s office is in west Jerusalem –Ed.), who call themselves Palestinian Media Watch (Palestine Media Watch) [English name repeats in parentheses in source]. These claims are connected to statements that were attributed to Jibril Rajoub on a Lebanese TV station in 2013 (Reference to Rajoub on ebanese Al-Mayadeen TV that was one of many sources in PMW’s first complaint against Rajoub; see note below- Ed). Regarding the apparent threat to Argentinian player Lionel Messi, we wonder how legal it is that a third party [PMW/IFA] – which is not a neutral side and which is in an unresolved dispute with the Palestinian [Football] Association before FIFA (i.e., FIFA has not yet ruled on PMW’s first complaint against Rajoub and the PFA) – would submit a complaint on behalf of Messi, which is something that neither he nor the Argentinian [Football] Association has done.”

Qadri Abu Bakr appointed as head of PLO Commission of Prisoners’ Affairs, replacing Issa Karake, due to internal Palestinian politics
Source: Al-Araby Al-Jadeed (UK Arab news website), Aug. 3, 2018
Headline: "A presidential decision regarding the establishment of a committee to manage the [PLO] Commission of Palestinian Prisoners' Affairs"
"Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas has decided to establish a committee headed by Maj.-Gen. Qadri Abu Bakr to manage the [PLO] Commission of Prisoners' Affairs in place of Director of the Commission Issa Karake… Maj.-Gen. Qadri Abu Bakr told [the UK Arab news website] Al-Araby Al-Jadeed: 'Indeed I have received the presidential order, and on Sunday [Aug. 5, 2018] the transfer of the role in the PLO will be carried out.' [...] According to Al-Araby Al-Jadeed’s sources, there is an inclination to merge the Commission of Prisoners' Affairs with the [PA-funded] Prisoners’ Club in the framework of one institution. These two institutions are led by two senior Fatah officials and former prisoners, Issa Karake and Qadura Fares. The sources...  added: 'Karake and Fares have been harassed since the prisoners' [hunger] strike ended this past May (sic., May 2017). Heavy pressures have been applied to the Prisoners’ Club since August 2017 on the pretext that it supported the prisoners' strike, which was led by Fatah leader Marwan Barghouti...  Former Director of [PLO] Commission of Prisoners' Affairs Issa Karake yesterday (Thursday) published an article in which he hinted that the decision to fire him arises from him being accused of supporting the prisoners' strike.'"

Fatah Central Committee Member: Israel “entirely subsists on oppression and official terror,” refers to terrorist prisoners as an “important, and noble sector”
Source: Official Palestinian Authority TV, July 25, 2018
Official PA TV program Topic of the Day, on the anniversary of a Palestinian prisoner hunger strike in Nafha Prison that took place in the 1980s, interview with Fatah Central Committee Secretary Jibril Rajoub

Fatah Central Committee Secretary Jibril Rajoub: “These days, this enemy wants to turn the prisoners and Martyrs (Shahids) into terrorists and the care for them into a crime. Fundamentally, as you know, this entity [Israel] – which entirely subsists on oppression and official terror – is the criminal, but it has marketed itself as if it is the victim and not the hangman. [PA President Mahmoud Abbas’ meeting with the families of prisoners that were in the Nafha Prison hunger strike] is also a message that no, these [prisoners] are the most noble and exalted. Their place in history and the consciousness cannot be other than firm, as was drafted on Jan. 1, 1965...
This hangman that presents [itself] as if it is the victim and we are the terrorists - no, my brother, it is the hangman. It is the criminal and we are the victim. What happened a few days ago [when Abbas met prisoners’ families] is a modest message. That is to say, the decorating and honoring of a group of seven people; but it is an important message to a large, important, and noble sector (i.e., the prisoners).”

Abbas vows continued payments to terrorist prisoners who are “stars in the sky” and have “priority in everything”
Source: Official Palestinian Authority TV, July 24, 2018

Official PA TV News, on PA Chairman Mahmoud Abbas’ statements at a ceremony honoring released prisoners and families of dead terrorists

PA Chairman Mahmoud Abbas: "By Allah, even if we have only a penny left it will only be spent on the families of the Martyrs and the prisoners, and only afterwards will it be spent on the rest of the people. This is a group that we appreciate and respect, and we consider it the one paving the way to Palestine’s independence for the future generations."
Official PA TV reporter: "With these words [PA] President Mahmoud Abbas welcomed a group of released prisoners and honored the leadership of the movement of prisoners, who sacrificed their souls and lives for the defense of their people and homeland. The president gave a number of Martyrs and prisoners the Jerusalem Medal in recognition of their role and their honorable national struggle..."
PA Chairman Mahmoud Abbas: "We view the Martyrs and prisoners as stars in the sky of the Palestinian people and the sky of the Palestinian people’s struggle, and they have priority in everything..."

Fatah official Rajoub on Argentina’s cancellation of a friendly football match with Israel: “the Argentinian national team clearly gave a slap to this Israeli fascism, Nazism, and racism”
Source: Official Palestinian Authority TV, June 6, 2018
Official PA TV News, on Argentina’s cancellation of the friendly football match between the Israeli and Argentinian national teams in Jerusalem on June 9, 2018, phone interview with Fatah Central Committee Secretary and Chairman of the Palestinian Football Association Jibril Rajoub

Fatah Central Committee Secretary and Chairman of the Palestinian Football Association Jibril Rajoub: “We on our side, as I have said, made contact with all of the international bodies… and Argentinian public opinion and discussed the need to stop and issue a red card to this political match (i.e., a friendly football match between the Israeli and Argentinian national teams scheduled to take place on June 9, 2018, in Jerusalem), with some of the details being that for the first time the Israel [Football] Association (IFA) invited 8 players [to the team] from within the Green Line (i.e., Palestinian term for Israel; the Green Line is the ceasefire line between Israel and the neighboring Arab countries, 1949-1967), in other words Palestinians (i.e., Israeli Arabs), and said that it wants to have them participate in the match.”

Official PA TV host: “This is a political and sports victory, Mr. Rajoub, yes.

Jibril Rajoub: “No, of course. They are exploiting sport as a means to cover their crimes and cover their harming of three issues...but Messi and the Argentinian national team clearly gave a slap to this Israeli fascism, Nazism, and racism."

Rajoub condemns Israel-Argentina match in Jerusalem: We’ll target Messi. Burn your Messi shirts, he shouldn’t “beautify the fascist occupation's image”
Source: Facebook page of Jibril Rajoub, Secretary of the Fatah Central Committee, June 3, 2018

Fatah Central Committee Secretary and Chairman of the Palestinian Football Association Jibril Rajoub:
"We gave a letter to the ambassador of Argentina... intended for the government of Argentina and the Argentine [Football] Association, but it is also intended for [Argentine football player Lionel] Messi – Messi, who is a symbol of love and peace, and who is a UNICEF ambassador for spreading love and tolerance. We demand that he not serve as a means to beautify the fascist occupation's image and its racist policy… We won’t in any way agree that this game [between Argentina and Israel] take place. Starting from today we will begin a campaign against the Argentine [Football] Association, and we will personally target Messi, who has tens of millions of fans in Arab states, Islamic states, in Asia, in Africa, and in states that are friends of the Palestinian people. He is a symbol and a great thing for them. We will target Messi, and will demand that everyone burn their [Messi] shirts and pictures and renounce him – but we still hope that on Thursday, Messi will not come and will not be exploited to whitewash the occupation's crimes… I do not think that there is a difference between what is happening today and what happened in Europe in the 1930s."

Head of Palestinian Football Association accuses Israel of “politicizing” sport, while calling on Argentina to avoid match against Israel in “occupied Jerusalem”
Source: WAFA, official PA news agency, May 28, 2018
“Chairman of the [PLO] Supreme Council for Sport and Youth Affairs and the Palestinian Football Association Jibril Rajoub called on Argentina to avoid participating in the friendly football match [with Israel] that is expected to take place on June 9 [2018] in occupied Jerusalem, as part of the Argentinian national team’s preparations for the World Cup. Rajoub expressed his opposition and condemnation of the Israeli occupation government’s decision to hold the match. He emphasized that Israel is politicizing the sport… This was said in an official protest letter that Rajoub sent to the Argentine Football Association, the South American Football Confederation [CONMEBOL], and also to FIFA and UEFA – both of which Israel belongs to, to the Union of Arab Football Associations, and the Islamic Solidarity Sports Federation… Rajoub expressed deep concern over the match being held in occupied Jerusalem, which constitutes clear submission ‘to the heavy political pressures that the government of Israel and its ministers have exerted, as Israeli Minister of Culture and Sports Miri Regev openly boasted.’ He added: ‘Israel, the occupying power, has politicized the sport in a way that contradicts the moral standards and international values that determine the principles of the sport.’”
