Fatah Central committee warns of the “Israeli colonialist expansion scheme”

“Fatah Central Committee member Abbas Zaki’s office said that his visit to Syria was not [a] private [visit] but was carried out on the basis of the Palestinian position. The office added in its announcement: ‘Abbas Zaki’s visit to Syria was not [a] private [visit]; the visit to Damascus, which was distinctly political, was conducted as an expression of the position of Fatah’s Central Committee in accordance with President Mahmoud Abbas’ instructions and policy. This is not the first [visit], since three Palestinian visits led by PLO Executive Committee member and Fatah Central Committee member Zakariya Al-Agha have preceded it … [These visits] were based on the following points and topics:
a. [The Palestinian people already suffered from confrontations with other Arab nations and has therefore learned [the necessary] lessons to avert destructive wars.]
b. Fatah’s Central Committee, led by President Mahmoud Abbas, has taken a stand against interfering in Syria’s internal affairs and against favoring any one party against another. This [was decided] because we trust the brothers in Syria, who are the most capable of protecting their own interests and finding ways and means to solve their problems, based on preserving Syrian unity, opposing military solutions and settling disputes through democratic dialogue, with the aim of reaching understanding and a common ground to protect Syria from ruin and destruction.
c. The interest President of the State of Palestine Mahmoud Abbas and the Central Committee show in Syria does not stem only from its being a country struggling against the Israeli colonialist expansion scheme, but also due to concern for Palestinian refugees in sister Syria’s territories. Their refugee camps have been destroyed and ruined and they need livelihood and a glass of water to stay alive until they return to Palestine and reclaim their homes and property in Haifa, Acre, Safed, Tiberias, Lod, Ramle and Be’er Sheva.’”
