PA TV describes how 12-year-old girl caught with knife asked for money for canteen at sentencing

The reporter in the program talks about a 12-year-old girl named Dima Al-Wawi who entered a Jewish settlement with a concealed knife, and was sentenced to 4.5 months in prison. The reporter recounts that during the girl’s trial she was seen making a V gesture for victory with her fingers and telling the judge that she wants 200 shekels to shop in the prison canteen.
Official PA TV reporter: “When the occupation court’s judge sentenced Dima Al-Wawi, 12, to 4.5 months in prison and an 8,000 shekels fine, after she was charged with possessing a knife on the 9th of this month [Feb. 2016], Dima was playing with her hair and arranging it in the courtroom so that she would look prettier… this way [reporter making a V gesture for victory], Dima signaled to her mother in the courtroom. The judge wrote down: ‘She signaled the sign of victory.’ She replied: ‘I want 200 shekels to shop in the [prison] canteen.’”
Note: In addition to monthly salaries, prisoners receive monthly allowances from the Palestinian Authority to purchase goods in the prison canteen.
Dima Al-Wawi – 12-year-old female Palestinian terrorist who tried to stab an Israeli security guard on Feb. 9, 2016, at the entrance to Karmei Tzur near Hebron. Al-Wawi pleaded guilty to attempted manslaughter and was sentenced to 4.5 months in prison. However, she was released six weeks early on April 24, 2016, due to her young age. After her release, Al-Wawi said she had hoped to murder the security guard, and be shot and die as a Martyr (Shahid).
