Fatah official praises Fatah’s “self-sacrificing fighters,” calls intifadas "battles of honor and heroism"

Fatah Movement Central Committee member and [Fatah] Movement Deputy Chairman Mahmoud Al-Aloul said: 'Fifty-four years have passed since the outbreak of the Palestinian revolution that depended on our people’s will and was characterized by suffering, sacrifice, and pain. However, it was also full of victories and achievements that Fatah’s self-sacrificing fighters (Fedayeen) accomplished on the ground; and they returned the spirit to the nation.'
He continued: 'Starting from Eilabun (i.e., attempted bombing of Israel's National Water Carrier), the Jordan Valley, Al-Karameh (see note below –Ed.), Tel Al-Zaatar (i.e., massacre committed by Lebanese Christian militias in Lebanon in 1976), Lebanon, the intifadas (i.e., Palestinian wave of violence and terror against Israel, approximately 200 Israelis murdered, 1987-1993, and PA terror campaign 2000-2005), and the rest of the battles of honor and heroism with which the Fatah Movement has brought glory to the nation – and we talk about our past and are proud of it, but we also depend on it to build the future.' He emphasized that Fatah will continue to adhere to our people’s demands and will continue its struggle for [our people’s] freedom and independence, and added that it is loyal to the team of Martyrs (Shahids) and that we will fight in order to realize their dreams to establish a Palestinian state whose capital is Jerusalem, and the emptying of the prisons.
Al-Aloul said: ‘We in Fatah are not being lured away by anything – neither power nor government – and we again emphasize our identity as a national liberation movement that is fighting for our people’s freedom and independence. We will complete the path, without any shadow of a doubt, and we still see that our most important priority is to fight our primary enemy – the occupation – and those who assist it.'"

Intilaqa - "the Launch" refers to the beginning of Fatah on Jan. 1, 1965, when it carried out its first terror attack against Israel, attempting to blow up Israel's National Water Carrier.

Bombing of Israel's National Water Carrier - On Jan. 1, 1965, Palestinian terrorists attempted to bomb Israel's National Water Carrier. This was the first attack against Israel carried out by Fatah. Fatah refers to the attack as the “Intilaqa”, meaning “the Launch” of Fatah.

The Karameh battle, or Al-Karameh - On March 21, 1968, Israeli army forces attacked the town of Karameh in Jordan, where Fatah terrorists had been launching attacks on Israel. Although Israel prevailed militarily, Arafat used the event for propaganda purposes, declaring the battle a great victory that erased the disgrace of the 1967 Six Day War defeat.
