Fatah: Balfour Declaration was "the most horrible crime in the history of mankind"

“The Fatah Movement said that the ominous [Balfour] Promise (i.e., Declaration) that Britain gave the Jews 100 years ago is an invalid promise, and that they do not have a right to the land of Palestine so as to be able to promise it to others.
Fatah Revolutionary Council member and Fatah Spokesman Osama Al-Qawasmi said… that Britain directly caused the Nakba (i.e., “the catastrophe,” the Palestinian term for the establishment of the State of Israel) of the indigenous Palestinian people, its dispersal in every direction, its [being] killed, and its [being] slaughtered, and that in this way they [Britain] committed the most horrible crime against mankind.
Al-Qawasmi emphasized that Britain committed the most horrible crime against mankind when it gave itself permission to give this promise and implement it through the mandate conspiracy and the laying of the foundation for the establishment of the Israeli occupation state on the ruins of the Palestinian people. [He noted that the Palestinian people] have put down roots in the depths of the Palestinian land since the Canaanites set foot on this blessed land…
He explained: ‘It would be more appropriate if Britain would give them [the Jews] what belongs to it [Britain], and not generously give them [territory] from the land of Palestine, but we are familiar with the plot and its true goals – tearing up the Arab nation and preventing its unification and progress.’
Al-Qawasmi said: ‘The government of Britain is required to apologize to the Palestinian people that is standing firm, and to its women and children who were uprooted to refugee camps in the diaspora because of this ominous promise. It must atone for its crime, at least a little, by immediately recognizing the state of Palestine whose capital is Jerusalem, instead of celebrating the 100th anniversary of the ominous promise and the most horrible crime in the history of mankind.’
He added that all of the free people in the world and those supporting the right of the Palestinian people will express their anger and opposition on the 100th anniversary of the ominous Balfour Promise, and that a day of rage will be held on the occupied land, as well as in many of the capital cities of the world.”

The Balfour Declaration of Nov. 2, 1917 was a letter from British Foreign Secretary Arthur Balfour to Baron Rothschild stating that “His Majesty's government views with favour the establishment in Palestine of a national home for the Jewish people.” In 1922, the League of Nations adopted this and made the British Mandate “responsible for putting into effect the declaration,” which led to the UN vote in 1947 and the establishment of the State of Israel.
