National Action Committee Secretary and senior official of the Palestinian Popular Struggle Front in Gaza Mahmoud Al-Zaq: “Palestine was an issue in relation to all the free forces in the world, and it is an issue of struggle. Those who participated in the self-sacrificing activity were not just Arabs, rather there are also people from all around the world who participated [together] with us in the modern Palestinian revolution, and they supported and aided us. Therefore, I say that the figure of Martyr (Shahid) Yasser Arafat–”
Official PA TV host: “Mr. Mahmoud, what pushed these people to join the ranks of the Palestinian revolution despite not being Palestinian? They adopted and were convinced by the Palestinian struggle and joined the ranks of the Palestinian revolution as fighters.”
Mahmoud Al-Zaq: “The free peoples of the world saw the Zionist movement as one who was the facilitator and pawn in the service of the colonialist force in the world. Palestine and the Palestinian people were the victim of this international colonialist plot in the entire region, and Palestine is at the heart of this region, and therefore the Balfour Promise (i.e., Declaration) came as part of a colonialist plot to rip apart our Arab nation and uproot Palestine from the heart of our Arab nation based on a colonialist policy to destroy our Arab nation and assist the theft of the resources of the peoples of our Arab nation.”
The Balfour Declaration of Nov. 2, 1917 was a letter from British Foreign Secretary Arthur Balfour to Baron Rothschild stating that “His Majesty's government views with favour the establishment in Palestine of a national home for the Jewish people.” In 1922, the League of Nations adopted this and made the British Mandate “responsible for putting into effect the declaration,” which led to the UN vote in 1947 and the establishment of the State of Israel.
