Imprisoned kidnapper and killer praised by Director of Prisoners’ Commission
Op-ed by Commission of Prisoners and Released Prisoners’ Affairs director and PA Parliament Member Issa Karake:
“Brother Karim [Younes], it is hard for you now, after 33 years, to vomit up anything other than darkness, after everything has been reduced to waiting on a clock that has stopped ticking, ever since these foreign occupiers crushed our day… Brother Karim, for 33 years now, these prisons have been flooding your pure soul. Not long ago, you were to have been released, in the fourth phase [of prisoner releases], and soon after that, you were moved to an unknown phase. I heard you say to the Israeli government: ‘I will stay on my horse, on the ground. I will not fall into the gap between freedom and compromise. Let them build their prisons over my body. My milk is white, my water flows through the gravel, and the waves will not cease to resist. O Israelis, will you not learn from the prisoners that this mother and land is nourished by the bodies of its sons alone; will you not learn that you must believe it is us who are searching for life in your dust and chains, so you may leave us and go to your false illusions?’

Note: Karim Younes - an Israeli Arab serving a 40-year sentence for kidnapping and killing Israeli soldier Avraham Bromberg in 1980 together with his cousin Maher Younes. Originally sentenced to life in prison, but Israeli President Shimon Peres reduced his sentence in 2012.
