Head of the Supreme Islamic Council in Jerusalem calls to Palestinians in all of “occupied Palestine – from the [Mediterranean] sea to the [Jordan] river” to protect the Al-Aqsa Mosque from Israel

Headline: “Al-Aqsa calls for help: desecration, violation, and attack of worshippers”
“[Head of the Supreme Islamic Council in Jerusalem Sheikh Ikrima] Sabri stated: ‘The fact that the Israeli occupation continues to do as it wishes in the Al-Aqsa Mosque is a heinous crime. The responsibility for protecting the Al-Aqsa Mosque lies on the shoulders of all Palestinians, and therefore we call to the people of our nation throughout occupied Palestine – from the [Mediterranean] sea to the [Jordan] river – to be present at the holy [Al-Aqsa] plaza in Jerusalem, and to cry out for it.’ He emphasized that the entire Palestinian society must unite in order to help Jerusalem and the Al-Aqsa Mosque. Sheikh Sabri explained: ‘The fact that the Arab world is occupied with internal warfare and civil war does not excuse it from its responsibility for Jerusalem, the Al-Aqsa Mosque, and Palestine.’ He added: ‘The Israeli occupation is void, and has no authority or legitimacy, and in the end it will pass [from the world] Allah willing. Jerusalem, the Al-Aqsa Mosque, and Palestine belong to us, and we will never relinquish them.’”

On July 26, 2015 Israeli police forces broke into the Al-Aqsa Mosque after Palestinian youth had barricaded themselves inside it during the night, armed with stones and fireworks. Clashes broke out, during which 4 Israeli policemen were injured.
