University names sports tournament after terrorist responsible for 9 deaths
“The Palestine Polytechnic University in Hebron held a sports week named ‘The Palestine Polytechnic Week – the Martyr (Shahid) Marwan Zalum Tournament,’ which was organized by the Student Union Council and [held] in cooperation with the Dean of Students’ Affairs… At the conclusion of his speech, [Dean of Students’ Affairs Dr. Khaldoun Sughayer] praised this activity that bears the name of Martyr Marwan Zalum. This, in his words, is the least that can be done for such a group of Martyrs who are more honorable than all of us together…
[Student Union Council Chairman Baher Abu Ras] added that the council named the tournament after Martyr (Shahid) Marwan Zalum because of the love and devotion to Palestinian society and to the residents of the Hebron District specifically that are associated with his name, and also because of the national unity he embodied in his life and after his Martyrdom death.”
Note: Marwan Zalum was a commander in the terror organization Al-Aqsa Martyrs’ Brigades (Fatah’s military wing) and a senior member of Tanzim (Fatah terror group). He was responsible for several terror attacks in the Hebron region, including shooting infant Shalhevet Pass in her stroller and killing her on March 26, 2001. He also provided the explosive device used in a suicide attack at the entrance to Mahane Yehuda (central Jerusalem outdoor market) on April 12, 2002, in which 6 were killed and 80 wounded. He organized the planting of a bomb in southern Hebron, which killed Israeli soldier Shai Cohen on July 9, 2001, and initiated a shooting attack at the entrance to Kiryat Arba on July 12, 2001, in which 1 person was killed.
