"Director of [PLO] Commission of Prisoners’ Affairs Issa Karake, Ramallah and El-Bireh District Governor Laila Ghannam, and Chairman of the [PA-funded] Prisoners' Club Qadura Fares laid wreaths of flowers on the grave of fighter Ahmad Jabarah ‘Abu Sukkar’ (i.e., terrorist, responsible for the murder of 15) on Sunday afternoon [July 16, 2017], for the fourth anniversary of his death.
The delegation laid additional wreaths of flowers on the monument in memory of Martyr (Shahid) Abu Sukkar at the entrance to his village, Turmus Ayya, which is north of Ramallah. He was affiliated with the modern Palestinian revolution through the Fatah Movement in its early years. On July 5, 1975, he blew up a refrigerator full of explosives in Zion Square in Jerusalem, which caused the death of 13 (sic., 15) Israelis and the injury of an additional 78. He was arrested on Sept. 20, 1976, and released on June 3, 2003, after 27 years in the deep darkness of the prison. He departed from us following a sudden heart attack with no advance signs on July 16, 2013.
Abu Sukkar was a rare figure. He lived a fruitful and rich life, bearing the [Palestinian] cause and carrying out a mission. He made a history full of acts of heroism and important activity, suffering and difficulties, modesty and humility. He left a rich legacy of giving and sacrifice. The revolution loved him and his people loved him, and the land took him into its embrace. Songs were written about him, and mouths said his name repeatedly, so that it will remain in the memory of coming generations."
