Official PA daily: U.S. pursues "goal of fragmenting ‎the countries of the region, in keeping ‎with [their] plan for a new Middle East‎"

Op-ed by Omar Hilmi Al-Ghoul, regular ‎columnist for Al-Hayat Al-Jadida
"Relations between the US and Saudi ‎Arabia have cooled somewhat in recent ‎years as a result of the Obama ‎administration’s treatment of regional ‎issues, especially the Iranian and Syrian ‎issue: Saudi Arabia has openly expressed ‎its reservations about the US’ careless ‎handling of the issue of the political ‎settlement between the Palestinians and ‎Israel. In addition, the Saudi leadership ‎has expressed dissatisfaction at the ‎weakening of its role in the region, with ‎Qatar’s role being emphasized at its ‎expense; and as if that weren’t enough, ‎the US-supported Qatar forged an alliance ‎with the Muslim Brotherhood and gave ‎them a free hand to wreak ruin and ‎destruction in Saudi territory, the Gulf ‎states and the entire Arab world. ‎
‎[The US achieved] this through [a policy ‎of] ignoring the Houthis (Yemeni Shia ‎insurgents) and their ally, Iran, or through ‎a tacit agreement between them – in order ‎to fulfill the goal of fragmenting ‎ the countries of the region, in keeping ‎with [their] plan for a new Middle East.”‎
