Abbas advisor accuses Hamas of gambling with the lives of Gazan women and children

Official PA TV, excerpt of Friday sermon by Supreme Shari’ah Judge, Mahmoud Abbas’ advisor on Religious and Islamic Affairs, and Chairman of the Supreme Council for Shari'ah Justice Mahmoud Al-Habbash at the mosque in the PA headquarters in Ramallah; in audience: PA Chairman Mahmoud Abbas, PLO Executive Committee member Mahmoud Ismail, and Secretary-General of the PA Presidential Office Tayeb Abd Al-Rahim

Supreme Shari’ah Judge, Mahmoud Abbas’ advisor on Religious and Islamic Affairs, and Chairman of the Supreme Council for Shari'ah Justice Mahmoud Al-Habbash: “When [Prophet Muhammad] went out to the Battle of Badr (in 624 CE, an early Muslim victory –Ed.) and the Battle of Uhud (in 624 CE, a Muslim loss –Ed.) and the adolescents came to him and wanted to go out with him to battle – he sent them back to their families, because he did not want to sacrifice the children of the nation. What a difference between that and some of those who claim to be ‘Islamic’… Those who claim to be Islamic movements – I will talk clearly, and maybe there are those who will view it as rough talk, so be it… I will talk about what is happening in Gaza, this gamble on children and women in a campaign that has no connection to Palestine (refers to March of Return protests on the Gaza border; see note below –Ed.). They said, and we say: peaceful resistance, peaceful action, peaceful popular resistance. Therefore, why are you sacrificing children before the occupation soldiers and throwing them to their doom? For Palestine? No, by Allah. Palestine has no desire for this, Palestine has no part in this, and the religion has no part in this. Yesterday I heard something – one of the satans, an accursed satan who calls himself a mufti, said: ‘This is the greatest Jihad.’ What great Jihad? Throwing children? So that they will be killed or their limbs will be cut off? While your leadership is enjoying itself, and its entire mission is to take part in the funerals, just that, and visiting houses of mourning, and not of their children… O members of our people in Gaza, our beloved, do not accede to these gamblers, and guard yourselves in every move you make and every action you take. Do not obey the words of the exaggerators, and do not obey the words of the gamblers, adventurers, and those with agendas, who want blood in order to reinvent themselves… Allah… pardon our sins and our excesses, strengthen our stand, and grant us victory over the infidel people.”

The March of Return protests are massive violent riots in Gaza that began on March 30, 2018, in which thousands demonstrated on the border and attempted to breach the security fence.
