PA government: Israeli UN Ambassador’s election as chairman of UN Legal Committee is “a shameful and disgraceful thing”
Text published in he official Palestinian news agency in response to Israeli Ambassador to the UN Danny Danon’s appointment as chairman of the UN Legal Committee, the first time an Israeli was elected to be head of a permanent UN Committee.

“Official [PA] Government Spokesman Yusuf Al-Mahmoud said that making Israel chairman of the UN Legal Committee (i.e., in June 2016) is a farce and a shameful and disgraceful thing.
Al-Mahmoud said in a press statement today, Tuesday [June 14, 2016], that… ‘What is shocking is that we, in the second decade of the third millennium, are seeing the last occupation in the world appointed as chairman of the UN Legal Committee, despite its bloody and aggressive record throughout the last decades against an unarmed people, and despite its threat to the peace and security of the region.’”
