Abbas’ advisor: Israel is the “spark and seed of extremism and terror in the world”

Headline: “Al-Habbash: The end of the occupation is the magic solution for saving the world from terror”

“[PA] President Mahmoud Abbas’ advisor on Religious [and Islamic] Affairs and Supreme Shari’ah Judge of Palestine Mahmoud Al-Habbash said that the end of the Israeli occupation of the territories of the State of Palestine is the magic solution for the salvation of the Arab region – and perhaps the entire world – from the main excuses used by the ignorant extremists in order to implement their terrorist extremism.
This was said in a speech that he gave today, Tuesday [Jan. 17, 2017], at the International Conference on Fighting Extremism, which was held at the Bibliotheca Alexandrina with the participation of 300 researchers, thinkers, and terror experts, under the title The World Is Rising Up: United Against Extremism…
He turned to the conference participants and added: ‘I came to you from a land and a people that have been suffering for more than 100 years from extremism and terror - from Palestine, whose people have been suffering for 100 years, ever since “one without ownership gave a promise to one without a right” (i.e., the Balfour Declaration) to give him a land that is not his, as if this land had no owners.’ He noted that from then to this day, the Palestinian people in all its groups and generations have been suffering as a result of this historical tragedy, which we do not exaggerate when we say that it was the spark and the seed of the extremism and terror in our modern world. He emphasized that terror was committed in the ugliest ways against a weak and peaceful people with nothing but its right to live and its desire to continue to live. Al-Habbash said in his speech: ‘All generations of the Palestinian people and its overwhelming majority oppose extremism and terror, and renounce it; but at the same time, is it not our right – no, our obligation – today to know and define what terror is? What is the terror that we are fighting, and that we must go out against, and what extremism are we talking about? There are those who like to falsely blame only the Muslims for the extremism and terror, as if they are a registered trademark of the Muslims only, and this is absolutely not the truth.’”

The Balfour Declaration of Nov. 2, 1917 was a letter from British Foreign Secretary Arthur Balfour to Baron Rothschild stating that “His Majesty's government views with favour the establishment in Palestine of a national home for the Jewish people” and is seen as the basis for later international commitments to establish the State of Israel.
