“From the very beginning, we have been pointing out that what is being done in Jerusalem in order to cause its [Palestinian] residents to revolt against the occupation is a clear, [Israeli] right-wing scheme which is part of the city’s Judaization, the tightened control over the holy places and the implementation of systematic ethnic cleansing. We stated that [Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin] Netanyahu knows what is takes to provoke the [Palestinian] residents of Jerusalem: harming the Al-Aqsa Mosque. This happened during his first term in 1996, when he opened the tunnel (i.e., authorized the creation of an exit from the Western Wall tunnel) underneath the mosque, and [the riots that followed] were called the Tunnel Intifada. It also happened when [then Israeli Prime Minister Ariel] Sharon held his provocative visit to the Al-Aqsa Mosque, which led, two days later, to a massacre at the Al-Aqsa Mosque, in which dozens of Martyrs (Shahids) were killed, and to the outbreak of the [second] Intifada…
