Silwan and Al-Bustan Neighborhood Defense Committee member Fakhri Abu Diab: “The truth is that the Judaization projects have greatly increased recently underground and above ground, because the occupation, and particularly the Jerusalem municipality that is the executive arm of the occupation’s plans to Judaize this area, wants to determine the matter of Jerusalem, and particularly in this area [Silwan] that is very sensitive, the surroundings of the Old City and the Al-Aqsa Mosque.
Even now at the lowest [place], where we are standing, there are four excavations on this road. There are 52 excavations that the [Israel] Antiquities Authority is currently carrying out. These politically [motivated] and random excavations have several goals, among them security goals and [goals] to destabilize and fracture the homes, because the occupation wants the homes to be destroyed and wants to eliminate our existence in this region through several means.
Roads are being closed in order to tighten the noose and embitter the lives of the residents, and that is so as to find alternative [ways] to distance them from this region that encircles the Old City [of Jerusalem]…
The danger is to Jerusalem in general, and specifically to Silwan that is being heavily attacked. This massive Judaization project - in effect through it, the occupation wants to tell the Jewish Talmudic false myth at the expense of Jerusalem and the Al-Aqsa Mosque, and therefore [the project] is very close, only a few meters from the walls of the Al-Aqsa Mosque. In addition, it will become a security center and brainwashing center for the foreign visitors, and for spreading the narrative and Jewish myth .”
