Abbas’ advisor: Metal detectors at Temple Mount entrances are “a blatant blow to the sanctity of the Al-Aqsa Mosque… a purely Islamic site, to which non-Muslims have no right,” Israel is “pushing the whole region towards… a religious war”

Headline: “Al-Habbash: Israel has no right to interfere in the affairs of the Al-Aqsa Mosque”
“Supreme Shari’ah Judge of Palestine, [PA] President [Mahmoud Abbas’] advisor on Religious and Islamic Affairs, [and Chairman of the Supreme Council for Shari'ah Justice] Mahmoud Al-Habbash emphasized… that the placement of metal detectors by the occupation authorities and the checking of worshippers by the occupation’s soldiers (both implemented following a terror attack at the Temple Mount on July 14, 2017 in which 2 were murdered; see note below –Ed.) constitute a blatant blow to the sanctity of the Al-Aqsa Mosque, a blow to the role of the [Jordanian] Waqf, and arrogant interference in a purely Islamic site, to which non-Muslims have no right… He added that Israel is playing with fire and pushing the whole region towards the abyss and towards a religious war that will consume everything, and from whose flames nobody will be saved.”
