Headline: “The [PLO] Commission of Prisoners’ Affairs: The [Israeli] Prison Service’s doctors are partners in the torture and medical neglect”
“The [PLO] Commission of Prisoners’ Affairs accused the Israeli Prison Service’s doctors who are working in the prisons and the Israeli doctors who are working in the security forces and at the army bases of torturing the prisoners, exerting psychological pressure on them, medically neglecting them, abandoning them as prey to all of the diseases that are worsening in their bodies, and not respecting the medical professional ethics and the international and humanitarian conventions.
In a report from the commission it was stated that numerous testimonies of prisoners have proven the involvement of the doctors and interrogators in conducting torture, and that they did not express opposition to the torture of the prisoners when they submitted reports according to which the prisoners could withstand torture and physical and mental fatigue. [The report also stated] that they avoid providing treatment to the wounded prisoners who are interrogated in the interrogation rooms, and that the doctors did not express opposition to how the interrogators are bargaining over giving treatment in exchange for a confession, which proves that the doctors are partners in the torture…
In the report it is explained that the doctors hide the results of the autopsies of the prisoner Martyrs (Shahids) and do not give them to the official Palestinian authorities, and that in addition to this, information on mistakes and medical experiments that were conducted on the prisoners during their treatment is being hidden.”
