Abbas glorifies terrorist Abu Jihad at Prisoner's Day event

[Text of address by Mahmoud Abbas broadcast on PA TV on April 16th, 2011:]
“Sisters and brothers, sons and daughters of the great Palestinian people… I greet you all, and send special greetings on your behalf to our courageous men and women prisoners in the prisons of the despicable Israeli occupation; [those] who have sacrificed their own freedom for the sake of freedom of all of us, and for the sake of the freedom and independence of the homeland…
Our message to the Israeli side is clear: there is no permanent agreement without the freeing of our prisoners – all of our prisoners – and their freedom must precede any agreement. In fact, it is the indication of the seriousness and the intentions of the Israeli side.
It is the national obligation of all of us, and especially of the official institutions of the PLO and of the Palestinian Authority, to make every effort to free our prisoners, and to devote attention to their cause and the cause of their families, since they are the torches that illuminate our way to freedom, sovereignty and independence…
This is the month of the Martyrdom of [he who was] the first bullet and the first stone, comrade Abu Jihad, Khalil Al-Wazir, the commander and engineer of the first intifada; the man who was a model of conscientious and quiet activity, combining modesty and toughness, and who was among the first companions of the Shahid (Martyr), our symbol, brother Yasser Arafat. Mercy and prayer be upon your pure soul, my brother Abu Jihad, and upon all the Shahids (Martyrs). We promise to continue the journey up until liberation and the establishment of our independent state with Jerusalem as its capital.”
Note: Abu Jihad (Khalil Al-Wazir) was a founder of Fatah and deputy to Yasser Arafat. He headed the PLO terror organization’s military wing and planned many deadly Fatah terror attacks, including the worst in Israeli history, the hijacking of a bus and killing of 37 civilians, 12 of them children.
