In attendance: PA Chairman Mahmoud Abbas, PA Prime Minister Rami Hamdallah

Supreme Shari’ah Judge, Mahmoud Abbas’ advisor on Religious and Islamic Affairs, and Chairman of the Supreme Council for Shari'ah Justice Mahmoud Al-Habbash: "Only wicked people harm mosques. Only terror and terrorists harm mosques. There is no difference between the terror that has harmed the blessed Al-Aqsa Mosque for 50 years, since the [start of] the occupation and until today - and when I say terror I mean the occupation itself - there is no difference between this terror and the terror that tried to strike the Prophet [Muhammad] Mosque [in Medina] a year ago (i.e., July 5, 2016, suicide attack, 4 murdered), and yesterday (sic., 2 days ago) [June 23, 2017] tried to harm the Holy Mosque (i.e., Mecca’s Grand Mosque) in blessed Mecca. Whoever tries to harm our mosques, his hand and head must be cut off and he must be destroyed. These mosques, these symbols, these landmarks, are the high point of our faith and are connected to our faith until the end of days. Our Al-Aqsa Mosque, despite bowing under an occupation for the last 50 years, will remain the Al-Aqsa Mosque until the end of days. Its name will not change, its features will not change, and we will continue to describe it in the same way. The Al-Aqsa Mosque (i.e., means the entire Al-Aqsa Mosque), until the last centimeter, including all of its plazas, all of its facilities, all of its walls, all of its gates, and all of its walls, and first and foremost the Al-Buraq Wall (i.e., the Western Wall of the Temple Mount). There is no argument over this. The Al-Buraq Wall is part of the Al-Aqsa Mosque, and therefore it is part of our faith and religion, a part of us and a part of our people’s continued existence. We cannot concede one millimeter of the Al-Buraq Wall, the Al-Aqsa Mosque, and Jerusalem, which is the capital of the State of Palestine, or transfer them to a sovereignty that is not the sovereignty of the Palestinian people."

On June 23, 2017, Saudi Arabian security forces thwarted a terror attack that was planned to take place at Mecca’s Grand Mosque.

The Al-Buraq Wall (i.e., the Western Wall of the Temple Mount) - Islam's Prophet Muhammad is said to have rode during his Night Journey from Mecca to "al aqsa mosque", i.e., "the farthest mosque" (Quran, Sura 17), and there tied his miraculous flying steed named Al-Buraq to a "stone" or a "rock." (Jami` at-Tirmidhi, Book 47, Hadith 3424). In the 1920's, Arab Mufti Haj Amin Al-Husseini decided to identify the Western Wall of the Temple in Jerusalem as that "rock" or "stone," and since then Muslims refer to the Western Wall as the "Al-Buraq Wall."
