Abbas advisor: “it is forbidden for the Jews to enter the Al-Aqsa Mosque plaza,” not for religious reasons, rather because “this will lead to results of a religious nature and make the conflict religious”

Headline: "Al-Habbash to [independent Israeli TV channel] i24 News: Any Palestinian who presents himself as an alternative to the PLO is committing national treason"

"Supreme Shari’ah Judge of Palestine, Palestinian [PA] President [Mahmoud Abbas’] advisor [on Religious and Islamic Affairs, and Chairman of the Supreme Council for Shari'ah Justice] Dr. Mahmoud Al-Habbash… said that the situation at the Al-Aqsa Mosque and Jerusalem is most dangerous. He emphasized that 'Many of the political leaders do not understand the sensitivity of the religious sites,' and primarily the Al-Aqsa Mosque…
Al-Habbash warned against 'the continued harm to the religious Islamic principles of faith' by Israel, and against turning the conflict into a religious conflict in which there will be no place at all for understanding or suggesting solutions.
He also said that it is forbidden for the Jews to enter the Al-Aqsa Mosque plaza ‘not in a religious sense, but rather because this will lead to results of a religious nature and make the conflict religious, despite it not being such.’"
