PA daily under “intimate patronage” of ‎Abbas and is “national media”‎

Headline:Al-Hayat Al-Jadida opens a ‎shining page in its history and will remain ‎the newspaper of the homeland”‎
‎“On the eve of the celebration of its 22nd ‎anniversary, the Al-Hayat Al-Jadida family ‎and its board of directors celebrated the ‎opening of its main headquarters in the ‎city of El-Bireh, following its [the ‎headquarters’] renovation. The event was ‎attended by numerous high-ranking ‎officials and journalists, the most ‎prominent of whom were Secretary-‎General of the President [Abbas'] office Al-‎Tayeb Abd Al-Rahim, Chairman of the ‎Presidential Office Hussein Al-A'araj, ‎District Governor of Ramallah and El-‎Bireh Laila Ghannam, District Governor of ‎Jericho and the Jordan Valley Majed al-‎Fityani, Chairman of the Palestinian ‎Broadcasting Corporation Board of ‎Trustees who is in charge of the official ‎media Riyad Al-Hassan, Head of the ‎‎[Palestinian] National Fund Ramzi Khouri, ‎and Head of the Al-Hayat Press, Printing ‎and Publishing House and Political ‎Advisor for President Mahmoud Abbas ‎Nimer Hammad… ‎
Hammad said that President Mahmoud ‎Abbas’ decision to take Al-Hayat Al-‎Jadida under his wing as part of the ‎‎[PA] official media resulted in the ‎consolidation of a newspaper that ‎provides more room for the freedom of ‎opinion, and expressed his hope that the ‎newspaper would also excel in the special ‎coverage of specific areas of life, such as ‎economy, youth, and universities. ‎
Editor-in-Chief Mahmoud Abu Al-Hija… ‎added:‎ ‎‘We hope to add a new, shining page to ‎the history of Al-Hayat Al-Jadida, ‎especially since we enjoy the intimate ‎patronage of President Mahmoud ‎Abbas, and through the Board of ‎Directors headed by Nimer Hammad, the ‎political advisor [to Mahmoud Abbas] who ‎diligently follows the work of the ‎newspaper despite his [other] ‎occupations.’ ‎Abu Al-Hija noted that President ‎Mahmoud Abbas’ patronage of Al-Hayat ‎Al-Jadida is not the patronage of an ‎official newspaper but of the national ‎media, so that it will be a media that ‎expresses the truthfulness of the ‎political message and the Palestinian ‎collective consciousness, and serve the ‎truth, especially through critical and ‎responsible texts.”‎
